I know for Crystal they actually animated the Pokémon like multiple frames in a sprite animation but for from emerald all the way to gen 4 they used less frames and relied and squash and stretch animation techniques, sometimes using 2D animation to move the sprites around if it was a flying type or Pokémon like Mew or jirachi

SU1KUNE When I first saw the Enerald sprites, I assumed they were the new main poses and they would be individually animated like Crystal.

They found a great way to save on resources but still maintain quality. It wasn't until gen 5 that they found a way to animate sprites efficiently

It's refreshing to see the Emerald sprites for the Kanto Pokémon rather than the Fire Red sprites

I respect your opinion and no offence, however I prefer the Fire Red sprites over RSE sprites. Fire Red sprites had more cool and warm colours. What I mean is the colours aren't a contrast of tinting or shading. The sprites don't look 'muddy' or overdetailed. Some or majority of the RSE sprites follow that clause. I'm not saying that I hate RSE sprites entirely, in fact, Gen 3 sprites were a refreshing and most definitely needed change in Pokemon aesthetic. My statements are always soo long in every comment of mine lol. IMO

I've always liked how some sprites used to flash a single, flat color, like Raikou or Milotic. I always found it pretty. Part of me kinda wishes they'd bring back something like that.

Crystal was the last game on gbc and emerald emerald was the last on gba both of them had animations. Coincidence? I think not

@@rajt9996 and then it became permanent in gen 4 and evolved into moving sprites in gen 5 with an added attack motion depending on contact in gens 6-8

They did animated sprites for crystal, and it ended up being too inefficient due to them needing to add around 5 extra different sprites for each Pokémon. So they decided to scrap that idea for ruby and sapphire. It wasn't until emerald where they realised they could just instead add 1 extra sprite and have them all move around, something that the gbc wasn't capable of. Then they further improved it in 4th generation thanks to the capabilities of the ds and it wasn't until black and white where they wanted to actually fully animate all of the sprites

Can you make the back sprites of Gen 4? I don't like much the front sprites of Gen 3 and 4, but the Gen 4 back sprites are good! I laughed so hard when I saw my Croagunk was looking to me in my Platinum rom XD. The back sprite of Feraligatr, Infernape and Luxray are epic! Especially when they are growling!
