I purchased this copy of Pokemon Emerald off of eBay and the seller stated that they attempted a battery replacement, and got solder on the chip. Turns out that there was a lot more wrong with this board and I decided to get creative with the repair.
Need a repair? Reach out to me via e-mail: corey@imod.systems
I offer an affordable mail in game battery replacement service. $20 for the first game, $10 per game after that. The cost includes the return shipping. I will backup and restore your save (if available) and polish the edge connector. I will also seal any exposed traces caused by the game rubbing against the cartridge shell.
Thank you Matthew Mods on Etsy for making this custom label. This label was not provided by Matthew Mods for any compensation, I paid for this using his listing. www.etsy.com/listing/10830685...
The custom AGB-E05-01 PCB used in this video was created by HDR. These boards were shared freely under a non-commercial license. Please refer to HDR's GitHub for more details: github.com/HDR/NintendoPCBs

This is awesome. This copy of Emerald got a second chance at full functionality with that new PCB. Its important to make goof ups when you learn how to do things, nobody becomes a wizard overnight, so i don't fault the seller.

Solid repair. I nearly used one of those custom PCBs for a Leaf Green I was fixing up, but wound up not needing it. Also that reveal of the PCB at 4:07 was god tier. Got a chuckle out me.

Now you need to buy 8,000 copies of Pokemon Emerald and sell them all at a slightly raised cost, with the premise that there is a 1/8,000 chance to get a shiny. Jokes aside, this is a brilliant repair, and it's refreshing to see an eBay seller actually tell you when they've broken something. Also, with the Black PCB on "Shiny Emerald", phenomenal.

Well, I was going to say kudos to the seller for being honest about the repair attempt and the solder on the chip. But then we got to the PCB with missing pads for the battery... Why are sellers on eBay always lying? I hope they at least had pictures. If they had the game open to attempt this repair, they should be able to open it again to show the board. That replacement PCB is really cool. Glad that exists! And that hotplate is really nice too, those chips came off like nothing.

Yeah, I’ve repaired a ton of games off of eBay and was really happy that this seller was so forthcoming. They had very detailed photos showing the damage. They didn’t describe the missing pads but I saw them in the photos. Thank you very much for the comment!
