So I picked up a copy from a yard sale that is totally missing the positive pad, could it be fixed?

It should be. Mine was gone completely and this video help me figure out where to run a jumper wire. I ran my jumper off the r9 with a 28 gauge wire to the battery. Booted the game and no longer got the dry battery message.

Sometimes the easiest way is just to rom swap with a Japanese cart
