Hard to imagine now that back in 2003, Rayquaza was just "the extra legend", the legend with little to no plot significance (for now), that you find in a secluded spot on the map in the post game, with little to no indication that it was there or that it even existed, but it's there, it's waited for you, and now it's gonna fight you, and you better be ready.

Imagine this: You grew up with the RSE games. You’ve seen on KZbin all the cool mystery gift events you never got to try since your parents never took you to get them. Then ORAS comes out. You’re absolutely clueless about anything regardless the Delta Episode. You go through it, and when Rayquaza destroys the meteorite, you see that fucking triangle move in a way that sends you back to 2006 when you first saw the Deoxys event you never got to do. Your hype levels begin to skyrocket as *that OST* starts to kick in. That’s why the Delta Episode is one of the greatest things in the entire series. It brought a fan favorite character in Zinnia and lead to some of the most unforgettable moments fucking ever.

QOTD back then in Ruby, it was quite a tough battle I didn't even know Sky Pillar exist in the first place, until my friend told me to find it beside Pasificlog Town, which I though were blocked by stones as soon as I enter Sky Pillar, I took several months to clear the puzzle there (Acro Bike was my favorite, so I never changed it to Mach Bike until this experience) then I met Rayquaza... I constantly battle, reset, battle, reset, battle reset, just because of how powerful it was, my party were simply unprepared at that time, all of them were low leveled and I don't have a good amount of healing items one of those resets, I found the black one... because of how different it was, I trust myself to not reset it again, up until... 57th(?) turn I guess, I can't remember because if was 12 years ago, Rayquaza's health bar on orange, all of my Hyper Ball storage were used, unsure if it would work or not (because I didn't know what it's used for), I blindly used Timer Ball instead, because I thought regular ones or Great Ball must be failed, turns out I caught it... that's the most memorable Rayquaza catch for me I caught the one in Emerald lot easier I haven't encountered one in my Heart Gold gameplay yet Alpha Sapphire were too easy (and we HAVE to catch it in order to progress the story) I don't have Ultra games and in Max Lair, it's really easy

I remember my first battle with Ray during emerald. Child me was blown away how cool and powerful it was. I remember the battle to this day too. It was basically a 1v1 between my level 57 swampert and Rayquaza. My mudboi held his own and alone let me catch that beast. That was the day the Mudkip line was solidified into my favorite pokemon. Not only was it my first pokemon, it actually ended up killing Ray the first time and I had to turn my GBA off and on 😂
