You saying that Dialga's Fight To The Finish isn't very threatening as a final boss thing is actually very on point, because while Dialga is the final boss of the first campaign and an incredibly daunting battle both in terms of story and in gameplay, he is explicitly not an enemy: he is just as much a victim of the events of the game and quite literally going insane in the process, and the goal of the fight is ultimately not to defeat him, but to save him, and everyone else too. The hopeful and heroic yet also poignant and almost melancholic theme of the song reference that since you are essentially forced to fight an innocent person, but they are the last hurdle to jump over in order to save everyone including them. Just gotta struggle a bit more.

It's also just got a lot of weight to the stakes, the important factor of the fight isn't that it's dangerous and menacing, but that it's very dire, everything rests on it and so there's a sense of resolve, of steeling yourself for one last hurrah, into the fray

2:49:25 for some reason I've never heard anyone else mention this, but I believe that the reason the song slows down here is to nod to the fact that (slight spoilers) there is actually a time gear at Northern Desert. At this point in the game, the members of the guild are trying to find the locations of the time gears. The protagonists don't know it yet, but they've come so very close in finding one of them, and this is a hint at that fact. Nowhere else in the game does the music slow down in this manner, it's awesome

8:05:08 - There’s actually a great reason for this, even in a narrative sense! About 30 minutes after this in-game, a character ends up saying something to the effect of “I felt a moment when we were together, when your distrust of me started to disappear”. It’s pretty clever musical foreshadowing.

amazing as it is, i wouldn’t say fight to the finish is entirely uncontested. Dark Matter 2, PLA vs Giratina, and the SV final boss track all rank pretty close to it on my personal list, heck DM2 i would say eclipses it, though that may be my own bias showing. point being: i think it’s actually surprisingly close.

@@endernightblade1958yeah, I agree. Not to downplay the theme at all, but I do believe Dialga's Fight to the Finish is just a bit overrated. Again, just so nobody thinks I'm hating on it, it is still absolutely amazing- I just think its place at #1 isn't as absolutely untouchable as many people think. It's still opinion-based, but.. I do believe Dark Matter's second phase is better.

This game was SICK. Even if you aren't much of a Pokémon fan, this one is a great dungeon-crawling rpg. If you are already a Pokémon fan, it's a much better experience. This time period of 2007-2010 was arguably when the IP was at its best.

Why did I have to discover your channel AFTER this stream? This OST is one of my favorite, if not actually my favorite, soundtracks in all of gaming. There’s so much variety but also plenty of underlying tones to connect the story and give a mysterious element to it all. The dungeon themes fit each location so well, the calmer songs around the main hubs are so upbeat and nostalgic. The boss fight themes are intense in the right places but tone down when it’s thematically appropriate. Add in the variety of instruments they pulled on to create the soundtrack and it never feels repetitive when it shouldn’t. The leitmotifs that tie everything together (there’s a really cool music analysis video on them, it talks about the three primary motifs in the soundtrack and why they appear where they do story wise) are also spectacular and evoke all the right vibes. It’s all just so good!
@hayleeh18

Notes as I’m watching through (editing to add on as I go): I LOVE that you were immediately vibing with the Amp Plains theme. I think it’s one of the best dungeon themes in the game, and one I listen to on its own more often than almost any other in the soundtrack. Also 2:40:52 “a musical zipper” is exactly how I’d describe that sound lol 3:23:03 it takes that wild turn along with the story! Your chat told you some, but essentially you’re betrayed by someone you thought you could trust, dragged into the future that you thought you saved by helping the one who betrayed you and realizing you did not succeed in saving the world, and your betrayer trying his best to KILL you at every opportunity for trying to save the world. It’s an intense flip from the fairly mystical and happy story, and it’s a darn good one. All the expression changes throughout the Hidden Land, reacting to all the musical changes throughout it. It’s such a beautiful song Literally every guitar add in, but ESPECIALLY the one in Temporal Tower. The March and “hi neighbor!” during Do Your Best, as Always is exactly how I feel listening to that song 😂 Aegis Cave is a _nightmare_ of a dungeon but the theme is so groovy, I’m glad it got that instant vibe from you

I love the tick-tock in Temporal Spire, signifying that time is quite literally running out. As we transition into the next section, we begin winding the clock in a desperate attempt to squeeze out another minute, another second, anything to delay the impending temporal collapse. Then as we get into the final section, we're having to wind the clock constantly just to keep up, each wind being just a little less effective than the last, as we creep inexorably closer to the end of time itself.

I believe that this section and of course the rest of the game, have some of the best video game music that will ever be composed, ESPECIALLY taking the context into account. There are motifs here taken from the rest of the game up until this point, hell even motifs from the previous PMD games. I'm always overwhelmed with emotion when someone gets to experience it for the first time, I may have shed multiple tears lol. Thank you for your insight and taking time to talk about my favorite game! 43:40 Guildmaster Wigglytuff acts to subvert the expectation of an imposing, very serious leader that gets set up before you first meet him. He is absolutely competent to lead, is wicked strong, and very smart, and he's head of the guild, but he has a childlike quality in the way he acts and carries himself and speaks! So much so, that when ever since I was a kid, I can't think of him as having any voice but like that of a hyperactive child, a very high voice full of energy! 😆 So much fun!

In regards to 1:42:00 and onward, The Gatekeepers being associated with walking as a march makes so much sense; your characters aren't walking, but they're acting as security guards. The method of guild security involves someone checking the footprints below a grate in the ground. A Pokémon stands on the grate, gets identified by species, and then gets let in. The connection between footprints and marching isn't something I expected to find out but its so so neat.

Another thing to mention: the music is heavily inspired by the games story. Temporal Tower and Vast Ice Mountain for example: At temporal tower, you hear the clock ticking, signaling you that time is ticking before the collapse of the tower and the destruction of time. you need to hurry. Vast Ice Mountain has the clock rewinding, showing that your actions here will erase this timeline entirely, everyone within it. its a suicide mission for the past, and everyone knows this. you want to revert time to before the collapse
@vince8901

I think the idea behind the clock rewinding is more like, you have to wind up an old clock before it will start again. Time is slowly starting up again and that's signified by the rewinding of the clock

So if you weren't told already, from the themes sympathy to the end take place in special episodes. They were sort of side stories that followed characters other than the main leads, you unlocked them via progress in the main story and most happened during or before the main campaign. The exception being the last special episode, starting at For a New Life, which retells the final hours of the game in a different characters perspective.... kinda.

I really just want to thank you so much for doing so many full soundtrack reactions, you really don’t see that from anybody else. You don’t have to do it but you do, and it’s very appreciated. If you’d like to hear more pokemon, pokemon black/white and black/white2 are regarded as having one of the best soundtracks in the series, I’m not sure which one would be better to listen to lmao. Definitely don’t have to do the full soundtracks, but it’d be a neat one to check out!

Do Your Best As Always becomes the theme you and your partner wake up to after every dungeon. I love that they did that because up until that point, you had always woken up, after every single dungeon, to Loudred yelling and then Wigglytuff's Guild playing, and it's such a neat change and a welcome reward for completing the main game, imo.

The e-piano in “Goodnight” is actually a Tine-E Piano, and it is one of my favorite instruments used in the OST. I adore the undertone in the vibes part near the end of the loop. It is one of the simplest tunes instrument wise and yet so much is going on at the same time.

I first played this game in January and it made me cry 5 whole different times. It's crazy to me how the game that's made me cry the most is a game about a world where Pokemon run society and have to put some cogs inside a big tower to save the world with a reading complexity able to comprehended by a 3rd grader.

Your solo for 003 starting around 16:00 was SO cool. This theme reoccurs throughout most PMD games and I’ve always really enjoyed its composition. Edit: for 021: gatekeepers, you mentioned it sounding like a march, this is fitting because this track plays during a mini game where you are identifying pokemon coming into the guild by their footprints as they walk over this grate you are looking up through!

3:35:35 Dusk Forest is one of the only places, if not the only place, where there is any kind of plant life in the paralyzed future. That's because of the Passage of Time, the portal back to the past and back to your own time, that lies the heart of the forest. Time energy kind of radiates from the Passage and allows for the forest to be preserved. It's still very much not as it's supposed to be, since they are still somewhat frozen in time, but not completely; they are, in fact, able to grow. And in the game, it's not 100% grayscale like the rest of the world. It's a dark and scary forest in a grayscale desolate world that's trying to kill you, and you're still running for your life, but the forest is life nonetheless and has some semblance of something you know, and it houses the one way out, the thing that your very life depends on getting to. It's also the home of a powerful ally, the one who can open that Passage.

I finally finished the video! Thank you for reacting to this OST. PMD:EoS is my favorite game of all time, and I watch as many blind reaction videos as I can. I can never experience it for the first time again, but the emotions and memories I felt as a child playing it were so strong that I come back and try to emulate that feeling through others. This definitely scratched that itch in the best way possible. Since I experienced it as a child, I have trouble knowing if my nostalgia makes me think the OST is better than it is, but judging on your reactions I think I can say no, the OST is just straight-up good, nostalgic or not. 😄 Music guides our emotions, but I think the execution of the game also strongly affects how we perceive the music we hear. That's why for me, I still look for PMD content, because my emotions are so strong connected to it. This is my first video I've seen from you, as like I said, I specifically seek out PMD:EoS content, but there are actually a lot of people who do the same -- diehard PMD:EoS fans who discover creators through PMD. PMD:EoS is also kind of going through a resurgence right now on YT/in the algorithm. Looking at the viewcount on this video, it's already rising up to the top, despite only being 3 weeks old. PMD:EoS is also a game that is shockingly emotional. It's one of the only Pokemon games you play for the story and characters. Honestly, I still think it's the best story Pokemon has ever told. With all that said, I think it would be amazing to see you either play the game yourself, or watch the cutscene movie (a recording of all the cutscenes, so you get all the story, but you don't have to play it). The cutscene movie for the main game is 5h45m long, which if you're not into dungeon crawlers, is probably more manageable than the ~24 hours needed to complete the main game yourself. Of course, as a diehard fan I'd watch any more content you put out related to PMD whether it be a reaction to the cutscene movie or a playthrough, but I just want to say I really, really enjoyed this video reacting to PMD's music out of context -- and I think it would be an even greater teaching experience if you showed how music shapes our emotions/experiences *in context* as well!!!

What finds me as an awesome thing to this game is the fact when I first played this game for the first time. Where I was 8 or 9 years old and I couldn’t read english that well at the time. But thanks to the music and the way the characters were acting in the end. Made my child self still understand that we were leaving this world and it still got me to cry. That’s how powerful this serie is. To a person who didn’t understand english that much at the time, still got to understand what was going on is so beautiful to me. ^^

The one thing I enjoy about Primal Dialga's theme is that while yes, the theme doesn't sound threatening, Dialga still is. Though the theme conveys the fact that you're out of time. Temporal Tower is fast and energetic, a race against the clock. Temporal Spire has slowed down, but gained a much deeper/urgent feeling, time is running out. Dialga's Fight to the Finish is just saying "Time's up. You're done." What I love is that you can here the progression of your time running out. I stand by that this game is tied for best OST with Cave Story.
