Funny detail: Tera Raid and VS-TUROSADA are basically the same song, but with different tempos, modulations, and "instruments". EXAMPLE: 10:52 -> 10:56 is the same as 15:25 -> 15:28, and 10:01 -> 10:07 is the same as 14:21 -> 14:28 THEN AGAIN, we are talking about Toby Fox, and we know he absolutely loves to do this. Personally, I call it, the "Tera Leitmotif".

The classic Toby fox comment. Nope he composed a sketch for the main theme and the leitmotif is very commonly used in the soundtrack. He only arranged two pieces, raid theme and final boss theme, and you can hear it because unfortunately the percussions are kinda bad. He’s got some nice ideas as I composer tho, really interesting.

I love the whole end game segment for Scarlet/Violet. The Great Crater theme feels mystically ominous and is like a combination of SMT and Metroid sound styles. Also, the AI professor battle theme is great because it maintains the atmosphere of this unknown crystalline land you've found yourself in while also managing to retain a sense of gravitas and finality.

You can really tell which songs Toby Fox had a hand in, they all have a unique signature about them (like how you compared the Raid theme to Asgore's theme). I think it's really cool that they invited him to help out again. I didn't make the same connections to the other songs though, but I can definitely hear them now. Thank you for posting these reactions/reviews, they're really insightful! Oh also, my favorite Pokémon is Sneasel/Weavile. When I started the new game, I went straight to the coldest area on the map and stayed there until I caught one. I couldn't start the story without it.

So much of this soundtrack is practically begging for a marching band, high school or college, to pick up the score and go wild with it. Blending iconic themes with so many stylistic mixups really did a lot for the soundtrack, and it produced a real treat. Also I had no clue Toby Fox had a hand in it, but the second that was called out the influence is very, very clear as he pulls in extremely powerful, high-energy JRPG vibes into a series that was trying to expand its horizons. As always, a real treat and would be stoked for more!

To be clear, *Toby Fox did NOT compose any songs solely by himself* . He co-produced. He humbly explained that he created sample rhythms and musical bits for GF and they worked on it on their end. ok but scarlet and violet are such fire games. ive been playing and been so engrossed in them. the music, the story, the adventure. the glitches and stuff dont even bother me, ive loved it that much. all the music is just so good. i also love how they tried to bring back some of that galar music feel during gym battles. its not as good, but it reminds you of it and has its own individual feel to it. Penny's track goes HARD as well. i remember going into that fight and sitting there jamming to it for a good bit before i continued battling. also the end credits music is kinda nice, too. i just feel like this game was the one where we needed voice acting. it would have been amazing in my opinion to have some VA.

SPG, this video is AWESOME! I love your analysis of each piece. Your point of view for these music are very unique and valuable because you’re not only a gamer but a video game musician. I especially love the parts where you mention how each piece reminds you of other classic VGM pieces. Also, OMG, I loved the terastal raid music while playing the game and thought it was such a great piece and wondered who wrote it. And, boom, it’s Toby Fox!! The vs Sada/vs Turo theme at the end - I absolutely adore it (and how it draws on some motifs from the Area Zero theme you cover in part 2). But more than anything - Scarlet and Violet are my favorite Pokemon generation, and the context for the vs Sada/vs Turo theme is exactly why.

@@OTGamer95 That's fine too. The reason I like Geeta's theme so much was because it was Masuda's last composition. Which meant it had to be a remix of his previously composed theme songs to reflect his journey of 25+ years, and does this remix definitely sound like a mix of so many of his formerly composed theme songs and yet unique in itself. The Spanish Guitar at 1:16, the sounds resembling flamenco sprinkled seldomly throughout the track and especially the Pasodoble in the beginning to mark the beginning of a battle makes it feel like this is a Spanish Song indeed. It also feels as if it is saying ‘let's just dive in and give it our all, shall we?’. Definitely one of the better Champion themes. Masuda left with a grooving one.

Fun fact: Toby Fox was part of the (I think lead) composers for all of the Tera-themed battles, including the Sauda/Turo fight, the Vs 'Rival Nemona' as I call it, being your final canonical fight against her akin to fighting your Champion Rival in the first gen games, and I think he also was in the composing team of the other Vs Nemona themes.

Loved this video! I agree that so much of the music in SV is about emotions. They've really been doing that more since the latter half of Gen 6 it feels like. Would love to see your opinion on the music from Gens 7 and 8, or even something like Lament of Falling Stars from ORAS.

Recommendation for future OST reaction: Rayman Legends, it's probably one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. Some notable songs are "Medieval Theme", "Mechanical Dragon", "Tower of Babel", "Granny's World Tour", and "20,000 Lums Under the Sea", though I would be hard pressed to name a song that isn't really fun to listen to

The team star boss theme needs a reaction too (with the star grunt theme before, cutscene music from after the boss and [avoiding spoiler] team star big boss theme after for comparison). Without giving too much away, it sounds just like a badass cover a youtuber would do and i'd love to hear how you play along with it. The intro blew me away the first time i heard it and i had to just stop mid battle to enjoy the whole thing. Favourite pokemon: currently either meowscarada from my scarlet playthrough (cute animations and crits for days) or the hoppip line since it was my first shiny in violet, found it barely after leaving the big main city for the first time
