It's sad they are so underrated. Explorers of Time/Darkness were amazing games! It even had a very good story for a pokemon game; there were even some moments that got emotionnal; and it actually lasted for a very long time, which made the whole game so entertaining! The music in these games are just unmatchable!!! So nostalgic... The 5th gen mystery dungeon wasn't bad, but it can't even compare to Explorers; as for the Rescue Team games, they weren't bad either, but they are too short. They need to make another Explorer game like the Time/Darkness... ASAP!!!

Mrjoelfred I strongly agree. Gates to infinity's only fringe benefits were an updated and nicer interface, and the experience thing. As far as gameplay goes, it was great. The music was entertaining enough, and getting some older tunes through DLC was...well, okay, not THAT worth it. But couldn't they have put in a bit of effort on the story? I yawned my whole way through. I was expecting great things of the next installment of this, always controversial and deep spin-off.

Overwritten by Subspace Portal (Primal Palkia's Ability) i.e. Roar of Time, Hyper Beam and Giga Impact, etc. don't need a turn to recharge, and moves like Solarbeam and Geomancy don't need a turn to recharge. Basically the Special version of Primal Groudon, only able to spam moves with higher base power O_O

I know people hate the 3ds game, but mainly because of no aftergame, but the storyline was awesome, but not as much as explorers of time/darkness/sky, because in sky, grovyle, dusknoir, and celebi kick dialgas sorry ass in the future at the exact same time you do. I love the Mystery Dungeon series. So much so that I'd say it's my favorite Pokemon game. Reason for this is the story and the music are just phenomenal. Being the music nerd I am, I looked for remixes from the game. Most weren't that great and I even considered making my own just to be satisfied, but then I found this and was just amazed. It's amazing. It feels like a remix while at the same time sounding like the original. Great work. I really love this song and have listened to it just about every day since I found it

One of the best final boss themes, going above and beyond ASGORE and The Grand Finale, I love this game, especially the ending, this theme carries so much weight to it, it gives you the feeling that this is the end, its an all out battle, if you do not succeed on this day, everything will die, not only you, but everyone you know and love, the people that you fought so hard for will die most certainly, knowing the pain and the tears you will certainly face against such an evil wicked mind, and only the love for your family, and an insurmountable will to live stands between the end of everything as we know it, and a new day filled with smiles and tears at your safe return.

If we're talking about how much weight a theme carries, then Finale (Undertale) definitely sounds like it carries more weight than ASGORE. ASGORE makes you feel reluctant to fight, but you know you have to give it your all because you've got no other choice.

Pokemon Time & Darkness has to be the best pokemon game ever imo. The story itself was just astounding - when you think about it, despite it appealing to a younger audience, it's actually a deep, complex and rich story that has alot of depth going for it. You as the player slowly but surely learn just how terrible the state of the world is, and by the time you reach the final battle, you had to make sacrifices and come to terms with your own existence, then what happens? You face of against the god of time itself, with this music playing in the background, you realize that there is no turning back now! All those people who sacrificed themself to get you that far, all those people back at the guild awaiting your return, all those pokemons who hopes you succeed...with this music, you realize that a heavy burden is on you, and you have to give it your all or it'll be the end for everyone you care about.

I think I've recently come to terms with the fact that the explorers games are the main reason why the 4th gen is my favourite! I feel like there was just so much more passion and heart in the 4th gen games! 1st gen was an experiment at best, 2nd gen didn't really stick out to me all that much, 3rd gen wasn't balanced all that well, 5th gen alienated veterans by trying to pretend that the other gens didn't exist, 6th gen had a tragically short lifespan, 7th gen felt so underutilized and gimmicky, and 8th gen is ACTUALLY acting as though previous gens didn't exist! Meanwhile, 4th gen just felt so COMPLETE! There was a full pantheon that made perfect sense, previous generation's pokemon got so many evolutions that made them suddenly way more viable, and while I'll admit there were balancing issues with the dragon types, it could be overlooked. The thing that ultimately cemented 4th gen as being the series' peak in my mind, however, were the explorers games. Literally no game has ever hit me harder than this! Hell, I still cry over it!

So I was stupid as a kid and chose Chikorita as my main in Mystery Dungeon because I used it in Soul Silver despite it being terrible. So the only saving grace I had were reviver seeds and the TM/Move Dig. My partner was a Pikachu and all of his moves were awful except dig. I remember having to force my partner throughout the whole game to use only 1 move at a time. So I basically played with two characters because I was always banning his moves he could use. I got so good at flipping through menus omg.

Also I shit you not. I had to rematch Primal Dialga over 40 times. Mostly because if I had a bad run (low reviver seeds) and it I used too much PP on my moves it was basically game over. I remember when I finally beat Primal Dialga and that to this day has to be one of the best experiences I have ever gotten from a video game. Nothing since has given me such a powerful indescribable surge.

...really? i thought chiko was pretty good, at least in explorers. it gets razor leaf stupidly early, is effective against half the stuff in the main story, gets aromatherapy to effectively remove the need for heal seeds, along with synthesis for healing. Through TM they get Bullet Seed, which is one of the best moves in the game in PMD, as well as Swords Dance to buff both that and Razor Leaf. Pikachu is also one of the best starters in the game imo- it gets ranged moves at low levels, electric is a useful typing, it has an op status move in thunder wave, discharge hits everything in the room, etc.

well yeah but I mean still, remakes can happen again and every region and story has its own little something^^ I know that most people will think that it won't ever happen cuz it already has one and all, but still it would be amazing:D I do also believe gen2 is different form the other games for one main reason: it has 2 regions so it probably shouldn't be counted exactly the same as others, but don't get me wrong, I think that all regions have pros and cons just that gen2 has something special because of that.

I dunno, each had its own charms. What could a remake do to help them? I feel like adding more to the story also brings up the risk to *ruin* it; and balancing things out could make the story imbalanced as well. Let's say they implemented Gates' amazing job at character development; it would help out the characters, but slow down an already long story, which could damage the popularity for Casual gamers. I don't believe Chunsoft to be the type to make remakes, anyway. Besides, it's probably better for them to implement new aspects into new games. Like Gates' amazing story was rather a test demo for the 3DS Mystery Dungeon gameplay; so imagine what it'll be like next time around! Already amazing graphics being enhanced a bit, probably, the awesome music coming back, and an even better story; this time actually having Character Development for the entire cast like they did in Gates.
