@@LoreKeeperVG The issue isn't time, Gamefreak's development history has shown with games that don't build off the past thing struggle massively. Even non-Pokemon ones. You can see how unstable things were in yellow and tons of major balance over sights. They needed multiple gens to fix some of these things. You can even see how broken things got in Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet because of design shift or the balance issues in Arceus and exploits such as just not having your Pokemon fight the boss and just skip that fight segment by throwing stuff for a minute. Even these secrets follow this rule, they didn't start till gen 2 and got more complex but with a major shift in design these secrets stopped being a thing. It isn't Gamefreak needs time, they just aren't that good at implementing things. That being said more time would help, less crunch is good in general as well, but it is also very likely to let them go in the direction that causes problems.

A friend pointed out an interesting thing with your theory. How does Ghetsis know all of this? How does he know the name? Why does he look like N without being his father? Easy. Harmonia is implied to be one of the twins. Ghetsis is descended from the OTHER brother, continuing the feud even to the modern day.
@LoreKeeperVG10 ай бұрын
True, another option is that he didn't have the king's powers like N because he wasn't worthy
@suspiciousfigure309610 ай бұрын
@LoreKeeperVG Sometimes I wonder if Ghetsis family line were specifically looking for that power that their ancestors held ao proudly, and because of this power slowly disappearing through the generations, that they were incredibly desperate to hold on and try to find different ways to bring it from their children. It'd make sense why Ghetsis has a disfigured body, and why hes so angry and bitter towards N. It could be that his pokemon disfigured him, of course. Or, it could be morphea, which is a body condition that paralyzes one side of the body. It could be that his family.....took to some unsavory methods to bring that gift back. Either ways, Ghetsis family line could have been the one that won out in terms of power and fame. Meanwhile, the other twin took to a more peaceful, quiet life. So unknown, that even their family forgot about their gifts, and when it was gound N had this gift, they either abandoned him, or were k!lled in some way.

Since Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem is related on Taoism, I think N's character is based on the concept "Mushin" which is the state of mind Taoist meditators attempt to achieve, wherein there is pure innocence and no knowledge of good and evil. This also translates to "no heart", which a term Ghetsis used to refer N. I think this is the one of the main reasons why Ghetsis recruit N as a King.
@The_Natalist3 ай бұрын
The Taoism is funny, because ive also heard Unova is basically supposed to a New England stand in. It does have _not so subtle_ references like Braveriary 😂. The fight between Truth and Ideals also sounds particularly American. I love how many interpretations we can make on these games over a decade later, these games are truly art
@genis167910 ай бұрын
At first thought, it makes sense why N would be part of the Harmonia bloodline, given that he has the same powers as the ancient king of Unova (in an interview, Masuda confirmed that during development of the games it was planned for him to have the ability to see the future, but it was scrapped, likely because that would conflict with the plot twist revealing Ghetsis' true intentions). But how is it possible that Ghetsis' surname is also Harmonia? He doesn't have any of the special powers of the ancient king and doesn't get recognized by either Zekrom or Reshiram, so he can't possibly be part of the Harmonia bloodline. Well, Ghetsis is the one who found out about the Harmonia bloodline being the rightful royal family and its connection to the legendary dragon. As we also know, Ghetsis' original intention was to awaken Zekrom or Reshiram himself and use their power to rule the region, but had to step aside and let N take the crown of Team Plasma while he controlled the whole operation from the shadows. It is very possible that Ghetsis, before finding N and thinking he could befriend Zekrom/Reshiram himself, gave the Harmonia surname to himself. This theory is supported by his japanese name: G-Cis Harmonia. G-Cis, as we know, is a tri-tone, a combination of musical notes that sound horrible to the human ear. Tri-tones are, in other words, the opposite of harmony. G-Cis Harmonia is a play in words to indicate that Harmonia is not his real surname, but rather something he titled himself.
@suleycentral1787Ай бұрын
Hmm, considering what Ghetsis says to N after you beat him in the first game, I'm pretty sure Ghetsis also belongs to the Harmonia bloodline. However, the King had pure intentions with the ability to talk to Pokémon (as did N). Maybe Ghetsis could have used that ability, but his cruelty and corrupt truth and ideals prevented him from unlocking it. It's no coincidence to me that N and Ghetsis are not biological father and son, yet share the exact same hair colour. My theory is, Ghetsis and N are both relatives descendants of the Harmonia bloodline, but not father and son biologically. I believe that Ghetsis found N in the wild and realised he could've been a relative of his due to his ability to talk to Pokémon. Thus, Ghetsis took the chance to claim to be N's father and use him for his own purposes.

The mention of 3000 years ago was likely due to its resemblance / inspiration of Pavlopetri, a sunken city off the coast of Greece that sank in a tsunami 3000 years ago. The ultimate weapon being from 3000 years ago is likely a combination of a few things rather than a true connection; the Carnac stones that Geosenge is based on has approximately 3000 standing stones and was built around 3000 BC. As for what even took place in Britain ~3000 years ago in reference to the Darkest Day, I do not know. It's possible they were hinted at being related as more games came out, though the use of 3000 in Japanese is used to refer to rare events that might never happen again; in reference to mythical udumbara trees which are said to only bloom flowers once every 3000 years.

It helps shed some light on other things that are only implied and it honestly helps give Ghetsis more of a tangible reason for his atrocities; that he was a descendant of the ancient king as well and makes his frustration as being unable to awaken the legendary Pokemon himself a bit more personal, hence him formulating the plan to use N instead. The original dragon connection makes the most sense to me, given N himself befriended at least 1 fragment of it's being. Depending on what version you're playing(B/W), N will befriend either Reshiram or Zekrom(he still has that one in B/W2). Something Ash does in the victini movie(s). Depending on which one he befriended N is recognised as a true hero of truth or ideals. This in game story point connects N to both the buried King and the Twin heroes of Unova. The symbols may refer to the king, his sons, the twin heroes and either the original dragon or the birth of N, who would be cast out of the family hence his heavy story in the games. Given the presence of Arceus's plates here it is possible N could have been sent to(at that point)future Unova in order to perhaps spare his life due to the war the twin heroes would start, by Arceus. But this is just my own speculation. Meaning if my speculation works out, this could set up a legends Kyurem/Unova as Arceus and N being present in the same place may prove to be the key to solving this puzzle.

I think it's already kinda explained in the B2/W2 storyline. N was abandoned in the woods (Ghetsis was the biological father, proceeds to abandon him). In a way, Ghetsis is the descendant of the King, but the true powers and so to say "heart" of the king, and the ability to speak to Pokèmon, was instilled in N. Then later, knowing this (he even admits it after you defeat N that he wasn't able to awaken the legendary Pokèmon, so he needed N to do it), so Ghetsis searches for N again, recruiting him and telling him that he is his father.

Pokemon is a magical world of wonder... but even for pokemon standards, building something underwater 3000 years ago seems... very unlikely. Even with the help of pokemon, the ruins are too tightly build and pricesely created to make sense as something that was build underwater. Alternatively, if it was build coastally and got flooded over the years... Not only does that mean unova used to be bigger, it also means they probably planned for it to get flooded, as it is still in great shape. But then the question arises of "how did the sea level raise SO much"
@kingpz973910 ай бұрын
Hear me out. What if Ghetsis was also a descendant of the King? It is said that the king was righteous and could talk to all living beings, and naturally, his descendants would inherit his powers, but what if Ghetsis did not inherit them? I think that he wanted to claim his birthright which is Unova, since he is also a descendant of the king, but he could not, because there was nothing to prove he was a descendant, that is until he met N, who might be a distant relative. I don't think it is just a coincidence that both of their hair are green. Through N, Ghetsis would be able to reclaim Unova, his royal legacy. This is further supported by the words he uses. In french, in BW2 he uses "plèbe" which refers to common people, non noble people. It was mostly use by nobles, kings, queens and so on. He is also very harsh upon N, calling him a freak without a human heart, but I think he is just jealous that he did not inherit the powers. Alternatively, it is possible that Ghetsis had the powers, but lost them because he was not righteous, but that is unlikely.

I think the temple was built before the cataclysm. It would explain why it's in ruin. It could also be a reference to a structure people thought was a japaness underwater temple (Yonaguni). It's supposedly a geological structure but many people thought and think it was from an old civilisation and fell to the sea floor after the rise of water after the ice age (or sismic activity).

I love this kind of thing, I’m dying for them to expand on this and relic castle. I really hope we get a legends Unova game that explores both the future and past so we can have more context about king Harmonia, the legendary dragon and possibly connections to the paradox Pokémon with black city/white forest and the Opelucid cities. The future might also give us an opportunity to see blueberry academy again so that’d be nice.

If they just said that the vases were 10000-20000 years ago this would make much more sense, I mean, it was canonically an ice age in unova at the time. This would mean that it was built into carved ice more than built underwater
@BananaR77710 ай бұрын
But it doesn't though, 3000 years ago from the b2/w2 was the time when the dragon spiral tower was constructed.
@Mimiyan_or_Pikapikafan10 ай бұрын
Hey theres another reason the Abyssal Ruins are underwater: 3000 years is enough time for water levels to rise (i think), and that could be why they are underwater. A lot more reasonable then asking humans and Pokemon to build a tomb underwater
@LoreKeeperVG10 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's an option, but what makes me think they could have been built underwater is that they seem designed to work underwater (a water current kicks us out of them, and a water current moves us to each floor).

Fantastic video! I always loved all the mysteries in the Pokemon games, starting with Gen 1's Mystery of Mew and the creation of Mewtwo. Gen 2's Ruins of Alph and the Mystery of Unown, the Burned Tower and Ho-Oh supposedly reviving Jolteon, Flareon and Vaporeon into the three Legendary Beasts, the Mystery of the GS Ball being the ball where you catch Celebi with. Gen 3's Regi Chambers and the first time we see space mentioned and all the Mystery surrounding Deoxys and the Mythical Pokemon that wakes up for seven days every thousand years and grants every wish imaginable. Gen 4's incredible lore expansion it brought to the Pokemon Universe, with the introduction of Pokemon that controlled Time and Space, Pokemon that created emotions, and the God of all Pokemon responsible for the creation of all we know and knew. Abyssal Ruins is just another amazing place full of mystery that I was never available to fully grasp and understand the meaning of. Thankfully this video enlightened me so much! Thank you so much

I feel like its like a tomb of sorts for not just the king, but for something else entirely. I'm not sure what else it could be for but I know for certain that at the beginning of the level from where you first step is a "button trap". It specifically says you hear a click, and the sound itself is mechanical. Its designed to push you out it you exceed a certain amount of steps, (497?) But it doesnt depend on time. It makes me think the place tallies your steps along the way. Plus, it looks like N's cube. Whcih was originally designed by the creaters of the game to act as a mathematical puzzle before scrapping the idea altogether. I wonder what this could have all meant before Abyssal ruins was left forgotten?

This is interesting and well presented, thanks for sharing. I think one possibility that makes sense is that the firing of the ultimate weapon 3000 years ago was so devastating that it caused a tsunami reaching even a region on the other side of the world, Unova. King Harmonia was celebrated for stopping the tsunami somehow or another, possibly by using his gift to speak to pokemon to fortify against it.

What's also interesting is that Ghetsis' last name is also Harmonia... In fact, Ghetsis gave N the last name of Harmonia. Something else to consider in the lore

If we do get a Legends-style game set in Unova, I don't think it'll answer the mystery of the Abyssal Ruins. One thing I have noticed with the games, especially in recent years, is that we don't get concrete answers to many of the big mysteries. Look at Legends Arceus, for example. Going into the game, there were many mysteries from DPPt, such as the Solaceon Ruins, Spiritomb, and pretty much everything to do with Arceus. And throughout the game, we are left with more mysteries. Not only were the mysteries I mentioned only slightly touched upon with not much in the way of answers being given, but we also learn of an even older lost civilisation and all the questions that entails. I also don't think they'd have a game that is a whole 3,000 years in the past. Legends Arceus would be roughly 200-300 years ago, and even then a lot of the staples of the franchise such as pokeballs and battling are relatively new
@nidohime62339 ай бұрын
It seems the ruins implies the history of the king of Unova, the one who had two twin princes as his sons who end fighting each other, dividing the original dragon that used to belong to their father. And the unknown symbols might actually refer the original name of said dragon Pokémon, with a different title at the time. Said king seems to have defeated the Pokémon, befriend that Pokémon, and maybe when the Pokémon separated itself the king decided to renamed them again.
@metroglitch362810 ай бұрын
this is why i said i hope we get a black and white sequel instead of a remake. there's mysteries still undiscovered in gen 5. like the true dragon of zekrom, reshiram, and kyurem fused.
@thundereagle413010 ай бұрын
Could it be they where originally planning to remake Ruby and Sapphire for gen 5? To me it is so weird they brought back Dive as a HM move, and took a lot of afford to code in a dive mechanic, for that one tomb. But due to some circumstances they decided to make Black and White 2 instead, or made gen 6 earlier. I can imagine they where planning to also expand Hoenn to somehow connect it toe Unova. Maybe the King was the one who calmed Raquaza? and the 2 dragons of Unova are somehow related to Requaza?
@LoreKeeperVG10 ай бұрын
Idk, I don't feel like Unova has too much to do with Hoenn, and that gen already had Gen 2 remake

the relic crown matches n crown in the first game cutsene. this highlights a somewhat (keyword somewhat) sympathy for ghetsis for being obsessed with the unovan legends trying to befriend the dragon (maybe he was a more compassionate person) but the rejection scarred him to the fiend he is now. turning his attitude into accepting nothing but perfection, warping his perception of pokemon as just tools ,manipulating the hearts of people and his clothes which were the most king looking thing in team plasma ( fancy robes and the castle collar) and learning to manipulte peoples hearts... he is trying to be the king of the legends and why it breaks him when a random trainer that the other dragon chose beats him. i see him grooming n to be the hero and take the dragon from him is his way of resentment to life(he probably knew n could be a real decendant of the hero, he could befriend the legendary dragon and talk to pokemon). he is everything he isnt and why he renounces and lashes out when he rejects his plans and when he shows compassion to him its too much for him a reminder he is a true hero and not a phony like he is
