The first villain to lock your pokeballs in an attempt to outright massacre some kids, and they’re not even a person; the villain is just the memory of a far-gone professor. It’s such an intriguing setup for an antagonistic force, and a Pokémon game is the last place I expected to see it.

And I also love that the only reason you can fight him is because: "All pokeballs aside from the Professor have been disabled", so the only pokemon you can send is his own. And he "lent you" the ball of Koraidon/Miraidon. Beating him with Koraidon/Miraidon after having done all the journey shows this pokemon is now yours. It's a clever plot point and also quite beautiful if you think about it.

Ghetsis locked all non-assigned pokeballs first in the sequel, in a way we should be lucky he probably didn't realize that his team successfully hacked the PC storage system in the first game until it was too late lol. My favorite part was all the foreshadowing that the professor could do it and it still coming out of left field.

Champion here is probably the worst champion theme in the series so there is that problem. E4 and Champion theme this time around were VERY underwhelming especially considering the other battle themes in just S/V; not even talking other games, just within the same game! Team Star/Cassiopeia theme, Nemona, Gym Leader, hell wild battle themes being based on their zones! E4/Champ themes were very disappointing (though at least the E4 had fun teams to play against unlike the Champ with her trash tier team)

This fight is even more intense because the Paradox Pokemon generally have very different types than their present era counterparts, leaving you guessing about their weaknesses if you go in completely blind. One type you can generally guess if you've played Pokemon before, but there might be a surprise when it comes to their other type.

You know, calling Area Zero a "garden paradise" is fascinating. It literally is kinda like things like Eden, a place so wonderful that the mere presence of people start to contort and corrupt it. In this case, we literally had two prodigy scientist shrug off destroying their own contemporary timeline with feral beings that don't belong in the world with a "natural selection" mentality. Either way, there is something much more about Area Zero/The Great Crater of Paldea. Hands down, best level and final boss in the series.

This is one boss I wish I could go against for the first time over again, the feeling that you are woefully under prepared even with in my case over level 70 Pokémon which leaves you feeling like you’re scrambling to get knock outs really makes this battle tense! All I knew was that there were pokemon of past and future variants. My team was around 60ish and the moment I saw them with names that gave absolutely no hints about what their forms were; I felt such dread seeing these hulking monsters that were both different types, and untapped power coming at me with full force. Playing the game without overleveling definitely made these battles all the more stressful. I've seen a few talk about how underwhelmed they were, while also admitting to the fact they had teams with max IVs or 80+ lvls.

I love the use of the different motifs/themes in this game. This track using the modified melody of area zero and the Tera raids gives the impression that the Turo/Sada confrontation was the end of a road foreshadowed from the very first raid you did. Area Zero's theme already drew the connection between tera raids/terastalization, and this just captures the summation of that journey to the truth.

Imagine this climax, but make a slight change, where the professor is actually summoning far more than a full team of Pokémon to fight you. All 4 of the kids are there to fight, surrounding the platform at different positions, and you’re yelling out to each other as the battle progresses. If you land a super effective hit on a certain Pokémon, it lets your team mates find out and fight better themselves. But of course, summoning dozens of Paradox Pokémon proves too much to continue fighting. Even if in actual practice, it just means each kid fights a full team, it would mean 24 Paradox mons all constantly flowing through time and being thrown at you all in Master Balls. This would make the final encounter against the Paradise Protection Protocol feel even more justified and high stakes, as not only would the Poké Balls be locked, but most likely all the teams of your allies aren’t just locked away, but are KO’d/exhausted from their own Paradox fights that were equally as difficult as the one you just barely won.

Something that hits me about this fight how when you fight the professors true personality you are literally fighting to wipe out their dream Which in turn wipes out the personality...we are wiping the professor from existence and killing their dream personally..god this is a dark fight lol

It felt just as necessary. This was probably for me on equal with what S/M Lusamine was trying to do. Bringing in one Ultra Beast invites them all, and since almost all of them have a feral instinct and brutish power, it made me connect the two pretty easily. The Paradox Pokemon mirror that pretty easily in being feral, but rather than their strength being the deciding problem, it's their savage and survival of the fittest mentality, with the exception of probably Iron Thorns and Hands since it doesn't indicate them being a threat comparing to the others.

I love themes like this. By this point in the game, you're most likely to have done a few Tera Battles, and hearing that motif halfway through the theme just knocks you right back to the beginning of the game for some reason. @tedgeman man While Volo fights you with a whopping team of 8vs6 with no breaks in between, this fight gives completely NEW pokemon that you've never seen before. So, you have absolutely no idea what their typing is and the only way to find out is by dishing out whatever attacks you have and see what works.

God I can't wait to begin doing challenge runs of this game. Its like black and white; the stories just feel so repayable, and it's long enough that you won't just know opponents teams every battle. I personally can't wait to do my own monotype water and dragon nuzlockes, it's already a fairly challenging game if you don't prepare, so I can't wait!

I just completed a nuzzlocke and I gotta a tell ya once you get to the end game that's where the real challenge begins This fight was hard all mons were almost pseudo legendary tier They hurt and I lost 2 members out of the 5 I had coz during the elite 4 I lost a good member before the end game

After finding out everything that had happened in Area Zero, I had tears all through these fights. The amount of sheer emotion in their battle themes... You can feel the power of wanting to bring these dangerous creatures to the world and nothing getting in their way. Then you have that hint of a sadder melody attached. Hope to stop the AI and end what they wanted to do. This game may be a laggy piece of shit sometimes, but I haven't played such a good Pokemon game in such a long time. The last one I really liked was Black & White/ Black& White 2. They did right by the story, they did right by the new Pokemon and the music is absolutely fantastic. Even if you're like " EW LAG!!!!" you gotta grab it for the story. Just give it a chance.

This is NOT the most compelling story wtf??? My issue with the final battle is that it is the only point in the entire game that actually feels like there is a story unfolding on screen, and it misses all the legwork. On your way down the field to the final battle Nemona and Penny literally tell you about their parents, their likes and dislikes etc. Like.... 5 minutes before the final scenes start to play. They didn't build up this "big friendship" at all until they are all together and finally talk. Then you're supposed to just accept that you've all been friends all along so the emotional payoff can exist, but its so poorly done and rushed. The praise the story got is all from that high the game is riding at the end. Before you go to Area Zero, Arden is perhaps the only character who is believably written. The payoff for the others is extremely lukewarm: Penny literally exists just to open a door for you later. Her sad sobby backstory has no effect or consequence for anyone but herself and she doesn't contribute to anything else going on. Its a character you could theoretically just cut entirely and everything would play out the same. The story is honestly just shite to be frank. I felt elated after that ending, but that's all it is - a really cool final battle with high stakes but nothing done to earn it.

When I was completing the bossfight against Turo, this theme.. THIS FREAKING THEME.. this theme actually got my heart racing. I kept doing revive switches between my Noivern, Detrolon, and Garganacl, Mineman. This theme, especially at the part where it gets lower, holy freaking god. Hands down one of the best Pokémon boss fights I’ve done, and this theme slaps.

The paradox variants Really showed us just how bad of an idea it was to dare bring back pokemon from the ancient times when they were completely feral beasts. And all I can think of is just how much worse it would've gone had the machine sada/turo created brought back not just other paradox pokemon; But the legendaries themselves from a time when they were in their prime and unrestrained. 😰 I think that would have forced the legendaries of the present having to step in immediately and been a massive battle.

To put it simply: Hisui, but it goes much worse. Not only would we be dealing with things like Origin Palkia and Origin Dialga, we'd have other Origin/Primal form Legends going berserk, AND we'd have futuristic Legends going just as berserk. Potentially meeting and causing things to be even worse. We'd probably see more than a few current-day Legends step in to assist, potentially a high number of them. Arceus wouldn't be able to handle it on their own. And we'd likely see powerful Trainers from different places, ones who showed their prowess in their own times. Think Rainbow Rocket but it's the good guys. And even that might be barely enough- if at all. Who knows how that would play out...

Gen 9 Post Game: You and the friends you’ve made across 3 story threads journey into the depths of an ancient crater with sprawling landscapers, waterfalls, crystal caves, ancient Pokémon roaming freely and end up stopping a rogue AI that is trying to stop itself while being compelled to continue using the professor’s Time Machine while revealing that one such ancient Pokémon legitimately KILLED the professor in a violent rampage. So I’m gonna guess that Gen 9 had very different writers from Gen 8

Very small hill that I will die on: I disagree strongly with the idea that Scarlet's version of this fight makes less sense. Literally the only thing we know about Sada is that she obsessively uses technology in order to access lost things from the past - it's completely in-character for her to prepare an AI for herself in order to continue her work in case she were to die. If anything, it makes more sense for her to do so than for Turo, since in Turo's case the only real hook is "aren't AIs futuristic".

Honestly, as I may be more old school, I actually liked how Scarlet and Violet were handled, even if I DID have to get used to the world being more sandboxy than past games (but tbh, pokemon whose levels are WAY higher than yours becomes the new "trees, boulders, and one-way hills" that I'm used to, and the "Fly to here" ability is something I've had to get used to using to get myself unstuck in the beginning [getting stuck on an alcove with no way out or off, as Koraidon couldn't swim or climb yet], as I'm more used to the classic Escape Rope need.)

This fight still lives rent free inside my head as by far one of if not the greatest story climax the Pokemon game series has ever seen, right up there with the likes of the game Unova saga. What made this fight especially terrifying was that my first time into Gen 9, I was essentially flying in blind aside from choosing what team members i wanted alongside my friends, and my team choices more or less leaving me end up with no dedicated Fire type whatsoever, since I usually restrict myself to only using the new/regional forms for my first playthrough. Getting to Sada at the end of the game, and encountering nearly every single other Paradox Pokemon in the game in just the one fight with her had my nerves running on overdrive. I was underlevelled, badly, and while I was using the region's pseudo in Baxcalibur, I was scrambling to figure out which of the past paradoxes type changes were and how to counteract them before they could start bulldozing through my team. And then that ancient Salamence came out and my heart sank upon seeing its wing shape. I was in for a hell of an ace. It literally came down to the wire of Tinkaton having to tank hits and strike back with a mix of Play Roughs and Gigaton Hammers before Roaring Moon finally went down when i was one hit away from an absolute wipe. God this battle was so good.
