I have ran into a few elitists but for the most part just ignore those people and you will find a lot of people that are actually extremely nice and willing to help out people getting into the hobby. If I am being honest the elitist people are into the hobby for a different reason. They want to feel special, where as people who are genuinely into the hobby are typically more than happy to help people who are just starting out.
@TheFowo

yeah sadly there seems to be a ton of elitists. I made a post on /r/mechanicalkeyboards asking few questions about models that interested me and some tips that arent obvious for a beginner, got 2 responses and the whole post was downvoted to hell. Even people who responded to me got downvotes for being brave enough to help a newbie

I think it's also that most people just don't know what they're missing. If they have never seen a custom keyboard before or heard the way it sounds, they wouldn't know that there was something better than the standard keyboard that comes with their computer. It was actually only today that I learned that custom keyboards are a thing, because yt reccomended that airup review and I wanted to check out some of hippyo's other videos, but now that I've seen how pretty keyboards can look and how satisfying they can sound, I'm interested in buying a nicer keyboard and potentially customizing it if I ever have the opportunity to. I think if everyone had the opportunity to actually try out a nice custom keyboard right next to a standard one, then a lot more people would be interested in the hobby, or at least want to spend the money to get a nicer keyboard.
@orchdork775
@orchdork775 5 ай бұрын
@@cheeseballs9579 Not many people see the inside of your home, but I imagine that you still want it to look nice, because you're the one who is going to live there and see it every day. Similarly, not many people are going to see the keyboard you use (aside from coworkers if you bring it to work, or people who come to your house,) but that's not the point. Expressing yourself isn't for other people; it's for you, because when you have something unique that you picked out/customized according to your own taste, then you are the one who benefits by getting to use something you really enjoy. Every time you see or use that object, it brightens your day and you feel a wave of happiness and fulfillment wash over you, which is worth a lot if you don't have many things in your life that bring you joy.

Actually for ergonomic boards (boards for typists) you want to reduce overall travel distance, thus meaning a shorter bottom out is preferable. The whole "When typing you shouldn't be bottoming out thing" is to do with trying to keep your travel distances low. Personally, I've never managed it simply because it feel like I have to carry a lot of tension through my fingers to do it, and that straight up feels bad. Kailh Choc switches have become exceedingly popular with typists for the precist reason mechanical keyboard hobbyists who like things like heavy tactiles hate them

Your videos have helped me find a place to start with building keyboards and I just finally decided to drop money to build a keyboard. In addition I would just like to say that as much as you may not realize you and your videos bring joy to a-lot of people. I am a college senior, and the day you did your big giveaway stream I was having a really bad day with my school work. I had been basically doing homework since you started the stream; anyway when you announced that you had been streaming for 5 hours, I got really depressed realizing that I had been sitting doing homework all day and I commented in the stream "who else has been her for 5 hours" as a joke. However you just reacting to my comment the joyful and fun way you did brought me so much joy. While I am ALL about custom KB with high utility, I am definitely not interested in paying several hundred, much less thousands, of dollars on one... Part of the reason I WANT a custom KB is so that I have extra buttons and options that are just NOT available on most regular keyboards... and so very many of them suck sphincter. But that is just me... I have very specific ideas for what makes a good KB and having been around since typewriters were fully mechanical and shoved a metal arm through a ribbon of ink onto a piece of real paper.... I use a full-size Magic Keyboard (with numeric keys). I've always preferred laptop keyboards over PC keyboards due to their low profile and low key travel. It's easier on my wrists and feel effortless to type on. This Apple board has a bunch of extra keys (F13 to F19) that you can map to anything. If there were a lower-profile full size keyboard, I'd go for it. I like ultra low profile keys with short key travel slim keys.

I’m thinking of dropping some money on a custom keyboard but it may not happen for a while since Christmas is coming up, spending money on people. And I’m going to be dropping a ton of money on stuff for my set up, everything but a keyboard. Because they cost a ton of money, like 400, 500 dollars, and I only got 600 bucks and that’s going towards Christmas presents and my setup. So idk if I should just get a razer huntsman mini or wait for a custom keyboard, or maybe even mod the huntsman mini.

This video better helped me understand the difference in a budget prebuilt and your own build, wish I spent my money on my own keyboard. Even though I spilt sand in my keyboard (please, don’t ask)

Honestly not a big fan of the white marbling type stripes on the back. Kinda feel like it would look better black or maybe some metallic colour. But that's just my personal preference.

It's amazing sometimes how different people's tastes and priorities are. Like, the OEM / Cherry profile cylindrical keycaps would bug me, and it would never even occur to me to choose switches based on their color. It seems like a great board for its intended user, but someone else would need a totally different design.

As someone that works in software development, a keyboard is a vital tool of the trade, and I’m not paid peanuts compared to most. I could spend this much on a keyboard, but I’d rather spend far more modestly (keep it under $400/each) and equip my computers with high-end split keyboards I can customize the crap out of the firmware configuration to maximize comfort and efficiency (note: in software dev, all those symbols most out of the way? Yeah, those are the most commonly-used keys along with modifiers…) and still get a great result. Oh yeah: fully hot-swappable, with tenting, PBT keycaps default. Well, at least it keeps you out of the bars building these exquisite luxury boards (I’d hope all the expense makes it feel that much better and lasts that much longer) that I’m now thinking such a keyboard would be extremely painful to see the typical cat do what cats do, or the inevitable food/drink accident that happens if you seriously use keyboards over long periods of time, especially since truly custom beauties like this… may not reliably get certain parts at all, or on short order. Well, I’m glad there are keyboard high-rollers🤣 as it floats down to mere mortals sooner or later 😉
