This hit hard for me in the ending. I even went to Jaiden's channel and commented on her that she did her best and should be proud of what she accomplished. Playing Pokemon Platinum was not a easy feat, the amounts of crits in that game was staggering I almost thought she wanted to give up. I just hope that later on soon if she ever decides to come back and play another Pokémon game things would get better for her and know that I as a fan has my full support.

So I've watched pro nuzlockers review her run, but it was really fun seeing an artist review the video. He appreciated her story telling more, and his face as he slowly realized what was happening, going from 'okay, artistic license' to 'oh hell, that's the story, that's the truth and the layer and the... :0' was really rewarding. Instead of being like 'ehh, that pokemon's okay, her team is good for the move sets she's going to face in this gym, good job on the sacrifice' Moxie2D went 'look at that lightning effect! And the COLORS, and you should have kept that pokemon, look at the cool design'. All to say I really liked this vid.

Those who didn’t see her stream: Jaiden lost to the Elite Four on her first attempt. Togekiss died to a Stone Edge crit from Aaron’s Heracross. Garchomp + Quagsire were unlucky against Bertha’s Rhyperior. The rest of her team was very weak to fire (Flint). So she gave up. Her loss was due to really bad luck. She created a poll asking her viewers if she could retry the Elite Four. 70% of the viewers said yes. So she tried it again and she won, but she felt it was a really hollow "victory". “Alternate Timeline Jaiden” and the spooky bits you see represents her first lost attempt.. I know he explained this in the video, if your still confused this is just a more detailed explanation.

When I first found out the story behind the glitching/ending, I felt (and still feel) a sense of empathy for Jaiden. It's so multi-layered what happened. Huge build-up with a massive investment of time, energy, and emotion - as well as the added simultaneous energizing and drain from doing it all for a massive audience... only to fall short of the ending. Then, when stream kept pressing her to reload and go at it again being stuck between two very hard choices: (1) stay true to the rules of the nuzlocke and end it - maybe to try again later, or (2) give the massive crowd that has supported and rooted you on what they want and bend the rules to give them a finish to watch. And after choosing the latter and winning, to then be left with that feeling of "I wish this could have been the way it went the first time" because someone as driven to set and overcome challenges for herself as Jaiden is seems to me like the type that might be eaten up inside at not getting the "honest" win. A feeling of cheating the self. That personal interpretation is what makes me cry every time I watch this run through. I always hope I'm wrong or, that if I'm right, she hasn't allowed those feelings to linger/hold her back. On the video/art: I love anything that manages to trigger an honest emotional response from me, regardless of what that response is. And on that basis - this work of hers touched me deep.

Thank you! I read so many comments who were so triggered over the fact she lost the Nuzlocke and bent the rules by going back from her last save and try again and its like really? The fact she adapted with how she put her loss into the video made it so much more intense and interesting. It wasn't a straight "Wahoo! We won!" It was confusing and it was dark and my writer's heart loved every second of it. Jaiden did a great job with this video.

Also, from a gameplay/balance perspective, it really wouldn't make much sense to assign the best defensive and what was probably supposed to be the best overall typing (but Psychic happened) to one of the most common and easily found pokemon that's handed to you for the price of two and a half pokeballs. The dragon type, represented by the weak Dratini that needs a lot of exp and evolves into a beast (besides Mewtwo, it had the highest base stat total of gen 1 with 500, tied with Mew, and unlike the elementary birds right behind it, had a good defensive typing as long as you steered clear of ice types), was very clearly supposed to be incredibly rare, hard to obtain and hard to train, but be worth it. That's also why Charizard isn't a Dragon type - it would make it unfairly strong and ruin the rock-paper-scissors mechanic of the starter trio since it would lose its weakness to Water.

@@kitsuneakage22 nahnahnah he's talking about the Chinese myth of the Dragon Gate or Longmen. They say that any carp that can pass the Dragon Gate can become a dragon with the whole sh-bang, and the road that leads up to the Dragon Gate is anything but easy. There's a variant of the myth where a carp tried to get to the gate despite failing so many times, and the gods watching him laughed at him for even thinking of trying; when the fish actually made it and crossed the gate, the gods were so impressed that they turned him into a dragon. To this day, crossing the Dragon Gate is a slang term in China referring to students graduating and passing the gaokao, because the high school gaokao exam is extremely difficult, and the Chinese curriculum itself is very harsh and unforgiving, even for the standards of the locals.

I remember on my own Platinum Nuzlocke, I met a Pichu in the Trophy Garden, and a Buneary in Eterna Forest. It was actually a great story moment that they both evolve with friendship. Anyway, I would send Lopunny out to Defense Curl a bunch, then Baton Pass to Raichu so that it would have extra defense. Then, I had Thunderbolt, Nasty Plot, and Iron Tail for type coverage. I also kept Sweet kiss while making it always hold the wide lens. To this day, I think it's the strategy I'm most proud of. I also have a newfound love for Pachirsu as well due to the combination of Sweet Kiss and Charm being so helpful. Nuzlockes man, you gotta think your way through.

Add 9 for the starters and their evos, 658. Two-stage rodent? Check, 660. Three-stage regional bird? Check, 663. Great commentary, I love the comments about her animation and the direction she took with the video. All good shit ^_^

This is how you do great story telling by justifying ones actions. In this case, her own. I've seen some pretty good storytelling by AlphaRed, but this one totally tops it by far. Although, AlphaRed's first nuzlocke was more built on emotion, while this one for Jaiden was more on guilt and possibly self discrimination.
