You ever look at the Pokemon Showdown UI while you have a status condition and think "How many of those can you have at once?" No? Just me? Well it's more than you might think and I swear it's interesting

Imagine the thoughts running through the head of that Smeargle on the last turn. You're sprawled on the ground, you’re confused and dizzy, with the painful combination of water and music rushing through your ears. You feel the unsettling sensation of insects creeping through your fur, now drenched in sticky tar. Your opponent stands before you, flickering in and out of your wavering vision, yet you somehow grasp the perfect place to strike for maximum impact. There's a fleeting sense of strength coursing through your muscles and your soul, yet it's all in vain. You try to get up but you fall again. As you hit the ground you look at your hands. Is that the blurriness? Is it the confusion? No. As clear as day you can see right through your hands to the roots below. Before the battle, you were just a normal dog who liked to paint. Now, you're already dead.

I converted it into a prompt for dalle-3: A dog surrounded by water and roots, covered in powder, insects, electricity, seeds, salt and tar. The dog's muscles are pumped. it's eyes are glowing. It is tormented, cursed, taunted, confused, disabled and infatuated. It is standing on a balloon. There is music playing in the background and a stockpile of food. A couple more things: you can do custom triple battles to get even more chaos. Also there's a few more statuses you missed: nightmare, electrify, quash, octolock, and either glaive rush or recharge. With triples, you could also add a binding move and block to it. Overall great job, when I did this I only went for most of the negative (red) statuses (now trying to add throat chop and confusion to the mix)

To be fair Glaive Rush's effect only lasts 1 turn. With Bide being used in the video it's not really something that could be done

@@deff8487 Okay, how does replacing bide with glaive rush increase the amount of statuses. You're replace the Bide which is multi turn and is one of the locked in moves with a move that only applies a status for one turn and makes everything hit harder. It would help solve an accuracy problem if we had not already lowered the victims evasiveness. As far as my knowledge goes, trading Bide for anything else (especially glaive rush) wouldn't add anything to the counter and would just make the timing for seeing the most amount of status at once that much tighter.

I don't believe quash would work as Bide has priority, although I may be wrong about that. Requiring sleep+nightmare to be our "Non-Volatile Status" would make the timing insanely difficult but would possibly not add any extra statuses as we still need the victim to use a move up until near the end in order to get a lock-in move effect (such as recharge, protect, bide, technically glaive rush). You'd just be trading a "Non-Volatile Status"+lock-in move for sleep+nightmare, the latter of which makes the timing insanely tight and more RNG reliant (even more so if we were to suggest sleep talk as a means of going around sleep). Finally; both octolock and electrify last for one turn. Due to several of the statuses lasting three turns only, the affect would just be trading one of the statuses for another. And I believe triple and rotation battles change how certain moves function as it forces all moves prior gen 6 to return to gen 5 stats, thus changing the battle format would only limit our options instead of increasing them.

I'm surprised you chose Toxic since it makes the target Badly Poisoned instead of the typical poison status effect, which makes this setup trickier, as a badly poisoned pokemon loses larger chunks of it's HP with each passing turn.

Magic guard negates all damage over time, including toxic and infestation, leech seed, and salt cure. Otherwise the victim would have been dead long before toxic or not

you could've swapped flash fire onto the smeargle instead of magic guard and then hit it with a fire move for 1 more tag, using will o wisp instead of toxic would help achieve this since you'd only need to use 1 moveslot to fulfill both conditions and you can replace toxic, saving you a slot

there is an om called "shared power" that allows you to have multiple abilities, you can have magic guard aswell as protosynthesis quark drive flash fire and supreme overlord

I think the issue is that om is singles and i think for this to work you kinda need doubles. Although maybe free for all might be better since you can have up to 24 pokemon total.

You used to be able to stack the Shared Power effects onto a Doubles game in a custom battle but that was blocked a few weeks ago for "reasons". However, you still could have multiple abilities in a Doubles game using Partners in Crime or Pokebilities, the latter in particular allowing you easily combine Flash Fire and Magic Guard if you disable ability legality checks. I wondered if the Flash Fire condition was maintained even if you lose the ability afterwards, but that seems not to be the case unfortunately. I think the best chance to do this without OM effects might be to choose paralysis as the non-volatile status instead of Toxic, but it still seems like too many conditions do a large amount of passive damage.

This is so much more interesting to see done using actual teams instead of using the design quirks of showdown to put more than 4 moves onto one pokemon and going into a custom game, also you could've cut down on a single smeargle by using mew in place of it (I think maybe)

Yes, glave rush is, however it’s a 1-2 turn effect that’d be difficult to fit, plus you couldn’t use it at the same time as bide. Sadly.

The one way you can save moveslots and bring more abilities into rotation for status markers is by using Metronome. But that will just exponentially raise the time it takes to set all that up.

When I saw this stacking of negative status conditions in the title, the first thought that came to my mind is the Molbol / Malboro enemies from the Final Fantasy series and their signature move Bad Breath (Spews foul breath that inflicts various status ailments on enemies.) Too bad in Pokemon, being inflicted with a non volatile status makes you immune to all other non volatile status.
