What I loved the most about Pokémon Detective Pikachu is how well it stands on it's own as a film. It not only pays homage to all the fans of Pokémon (including myself) in such a fantastic way. The story itself is so charming, heartfelt and well done and the characters (especially Justice Smith's character and Detective Pikachu) are so well fleshed out and likable. There are also a ton of twists in the film too that made it very engaging and most of them were so well-done. The world-building is fantastic (it reminded me of Blade Runner, but it is a noire-spoof after all), the Pokémon feel so real, and I just feel like this film is one of the biggest prime examples of a video game adaptation done right. Pokémon Detectice Pikachu easily gets a 8/10 if you ask me. I honestly think it's one of those movies that you can enjoy whether or not you're a fan of the franchise.
