*Team Maqubi's Journal Day 48: A Duddles of a Day* Hello everyone, Ivan Ooze aka Melvin Tooz here to continue recording Maqubi's adventure. Today feels... better... like something that was missing from our lives has returned. I don't know what it is, but I just feel complete. So continuing on, yesterday Maqubi made it to Mossdeep City. She had heard that the gym was very challenging, so she decided to go and train us. For some reason, she wanted to bring Duddles with her today, so MyEX is having a well deserved break. Maqubi asked me to give Duddles the EXP Share for now, so I guess Maqubi wants Duddles to evolve. Maqubi was flying all over the region to re-battle some trainers to give Duddles some experience. While looking for people to battle, Maqubi was talking to herself. She was wondering how to pronounce Poochyena. I hear everyone call it Pooch-y-ena, but Maqubi is arguing to herself that it's pronounced Pooch-yena... odd topic. Later on she started talking to herself about vampires... what Pokemon is that? Even later she started talking about blades... Skidds' fins are kind of like blades. Then dragons... then balls... then something called Saiyans... who is Maqubi talking to? Maqubi ended up talking to herself or something/someone about several topics. Almost all of them I didn't understand. Where is she pulling all of these topics from? So at the very least today, I got to battle and actually defeat some Pokemon... even though there was almost a ten level difference... yeah I don't feel any better.... I feel so unsatisfied!

My issue with fairy is that I like what it did for poison, steel, and Dragon types, but I hate what it did for Dark and Fighting. Dark is only really good against ghost and psychic pokemon, which aren't really common in any game so now it's even less useful. Fighting types already had a really common typing as a weakness in flying, plus a good number of Normal Types got turned into fairies so stuff it used to be good against are now its weakness.

As for fighting type I sort of see what they were going for with that since magic would most likely beat brute force but it feels more like they wanted to push fairies a bit to much and ended up over compensating

In the early days of Pokémon Ghost and Psychic Pokémon were OP so Dark came in to level the playing field. Fairy did the same thing, up until this point Dragons were some of the best Pokémon and their only weakness was themselves or the glass canons knows as Ice Types. I felt like poison and steel had very little utility until then too. Poison moreso since they weren't bad but didn't have anything that made them are particularly huge threat. They were a little more passive than other types. So Fairy came in and was surprisingly tanky and could actually go toe to toe with dragons and gave poison and steel more to do.

That's really poor reasoning on the fighting bit. Having one common weakness doesn't mean it can't have another, much less common one. Most types have more than one weakness to something common. And there are still plenty of normal types weak to fighting. That a few were made fairy means basically nothing for it's effectiveness, especially when it is still super-effective on four other types.

Fist-of-doom Ghost was never op. Before gen 2 when dark was introduced, there was a single ghost line which was ghost/poison, so weak to psychic. There was also literally one move that didn't deal flat damage. (lick, which sucks.)

Geez man, chill. If it wasn't Ghost it was definitely Psychic but I'm pretty sure it was both of them. they had almost no weaknesses. Compared to the other types they were fairly limited when it came to weakness. When they introduced a pure Ghost Pokémon in Gen 2 they were in some trouble because Ghost had no weaknesses other than itself. Dark got introduced to fix it. It's about balanced gameplay, you can't have a Pokémon be a complete monster with no weakness of any kind. Even Sableye had the balancing benefit of being weak to even out its no type weaknesses it had for a while. As for the Dragons Ice types tend to be fragile sure they had some good moves but you'd be lucky if they lasted long, they aren't durable. Having Dragons dominate, was kind of limiting for a lot of players (I see so many players always have at least one dragon type) having it be Fairy was clever in both a functional and meta way. In the context of fairies themselves, they burned touching steel and were vulnerable to death and disease since they tended to be tied to the land which meant a weakness to poison. They would also help defeat Dragons in fairytales sometimes. So out of every typing Fairy makes the most meta sense to fit in to Give the Dragons a little more to worry about without it throwing the gameplay out of balance.

Next grindy time, you should go back and forth between routes 111, 118, and 120, and do the repeatable tv reporters battle. That was my go-to grinding battle, as the moment you beat them in 1 spot, you can instantly fly to the next and the pokemon level scale up even when going back to earlier routes. They cap out at like level 39 so are a pretty decent source of constant xp :D Magneton loudred/exploud ftw

Maqubi stands back and smiles as the light from melvins blazing body reflects in her eyes..... finally it is done... Melvin lifts his head off the badly scorched and misshappen table and looks around... Maqubi: Melvin.... Can you hear me? Melvin: Yes.... my master... tell me, where is My Ex? what happened to her.... Maqubi hides MyEx's pokeball farther behind her back and gives melvin a sad smile Melvins pained face pleads with maqubi Melvin: No! That's not possibe, she was alive!! I FELT IT!!! Melvins body begins emitting an intense heat as all the twisted heaps of metal burst into flames... the windows of the pokemon center burst outward in an ovenwave of heat. The last thing Joy remembers is the glint of Maqubi's eyes and her small smile as melvin explodes in flame and wails out an anquished NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Lord Melvin, the Macargo has arrived

Whenever you guys decide to grind in the future, one thing you can do is fight Gabby and Ty (the reporter and cameraman) over and over. They max out at lvl 39 Exploud and Magneton, so Skidds and The Game should have an easy time (or earthquake and levitate/flying if you have them). They respawn north of Melville, east of Melville, and east of Fortree in that order.

Best way to grind in this game is against the news crew. They only spawn in the three spots TFS has already faced them, in the exact same order, on loop. They get stronger, but do cap out eventually. I would always use them as a great way to boost and rack up money with an amulet coin.
