Pinning this since I'm already getting repeated comments on the stat trainers 😴 3/5 look sharp, while the 2 younger ones look alright. Riley is my fav, though their designs look noticeably flatter compared to the main trainers - which i would assume is intentional, since they're minor characters . . .

Funny thing with the Agatha connection with Bertha, it's actually intentional. Shauntal from Unova comments on them looking similar and Legends Arceus confirms they have a common ancestor who used to live in Sinnoh but moved to Kanto, so they're like cousins or something

In Platinum, important trainer sprites move at the start of the battle (Cynthia brushes back her hair for example) And yes, Dahlia dances in hers

I love Cynthia's design, even if it took me a while to fully comprehend how the pieces work together. I THINK that the teardrop-shaped jewel on her chest is supposed to be a stylized version of Lucario's chest spike. It would then match her hair accessories!

I kinda see what they were going for with the fro (classic cartoonish ‘blown up, hair got burned’ meme) that doubles as a reference to a firefighter’s helmet (I think that’s what they wanted to shoot for in the first place but just missed)

It's the laugh at Flint giving Ronald McDonald for me LMAO 😭😭 But it's true, Sinnoh really went hit-or-miss on some, I still remember thinking how good was Lucas and Dawn's look on Platinum! Such a glow up with just a twist in their colors and accessories, and Cynthia slaying with her iconic black outfit! 🖤

One thing I’d kinda like to highlight with Palmer in-particular is that his whole fit may be to fit in with Regigigas, a core member of his team in his 2nd Battle Tower match. The green, white and yellow on the outfit is a match for most of Regigigas’ colours as well as the placement of those gold buttons(?) on the coat which are in the same rough location/pattern as Regigigas’ eyes. If it was just the colours or the buttons, it could just be a coincidence, but both of them together feels a little more intentional. Also to theorise with Aaron for a bit, there is a more indirect Bug-type hint in his outfit in the hexagons on his top and the sole of the shoes, which lines up with Vespiquen, a central member of his team with an affiliation with hexagonal patterns in the form of the honeycomb hive-dress it has going on. It’s a stretch admittedly, but as a big time Bug-type fan, I have a soft spot for Aaron’s position, team and even look…even if I know that when it comes to Bug user designs these days, Katy solos any day of the week.

It kinda makes sense that the Battle Frontier looks more sophisticated and stronger in appearance than some of the gym leaders in Sinnoh. The frontier brains are located in the Battle Zone, an island separated from the mainland. So it makes sense that designers would drop some pizazz on them so that their outfits seem tailored to their dedication in being powerful post-game challengers.

I should probably mention you missed the 5 Stat Trainers, who the player teams up with in certain areas of Sinnoh and also, Flint really makes me wish BDSP had at least gotten some ORAS style redesigns for the gym leaders and elite 4, because they definitely could've given him a design that gave him a mushroom cloud silhouette

I feel like Crasher Wake needs a knee length cape with a wave pattern going from the top down or something, just on his back. It would fit well with his pro wrestler thing, since a lot of them have capes during their match intros.

I was excited for this one from the get-go! Dahlia is easily one of my favorite character designs in the franchise ❤ It might be nostalgia bias since she was the first ever frontier battle I reached and I was SHOCKED to face her, but the way she combines sleekness, elegance and fun in her style feels very unique and looks effortlessly gorgeous :)

Hey X! If you want to do more Pokémon content in the future, could you do a style evolution of the trainer "classes" that appear in every installment? Every game has your Youngsters and Lasses, Bug Catchers and Bird Keepers, Schoolkids and Psychics, Backpackers and Battle Girls, and so on. Late game classes like Ace Trainers and Pokemon Rangers are often given "cool" designs. In general, the rando trainers have really important jobs for the game - bringing the setting to life, building the tone and theme for each route and area, showing off particular pokemon types, and conveying the players escalating prowess as they go through the game

Do not mock Flint hairs... because Shauntal already did it and had it written in one of her book. Crasher Wake outfit is more theme after Gyarados (notably with the white thingy of his head) but yeah he is just a wreastler. Dahlia is a star and you associating her with a dancer and a pineapple is funny because she is fairly associated with Ludicolo which got both of those association (same pokemon that Mirror B heavily uses)

I'm not that big of a fan of the Sinnoh region but it did give us Cynthia who's one of my favorite characters in all of Pokémon. I actually really like Maylene's design, one of my favorite fighting-type designs. But the crown for those definitely goes to Bea from Sw/Sh and I really don't like the "dresscode" for the gyms in that region but she still pulled off to just look amazing! Also big fan of Volkner and Dahlia, both have such cool styles. There's also one of my favorites not in this video and it's Cheryl, really love her natural look and the long braid and she's giving those caring, motherly vibes.

Caitlin isn't a fairy specialist but a psychic one. But it's so funny that Caitlin does not show any hint of her being a psychic specialist in Platinum. While her redesign in Gen 5 as an Elite Four does not really change anything about her color scheme, only her posing and accessories actually indicate it.

Thanks for covering Sinnoh! It’s a pity the games couldn’t have gotten more in-depth remakes that revamped the characters’ looks (lord knows the father-son duo needed it). But yes to Fantina, Cynthia, and Dahlia as the best-dressed trio. And the Frontier Brains altogether are a cohesive, colorful bunch. I’m a little sad you didn’t get to cover the minor Stat Trainers (Cheryl, Riley, etc.), but no worries there.

I actually like Roark's design. I know you wanted an additional pop of color somewhere but structurally I liked it for some reason. The yellow and black rings and the black and red boots with the indentations were interesting. thought it was very well put together.

For me Sinnoh is by far one of the weakest regions character design wise, specially because its position on the timeline. It's between gen 3, wich was very memorable and a nice step up from the previous two regions, and gen 5, wich was a giant evolution in terms of colors, concept and design, so it leaves it in a very rough position. A lot of them feel rushed or incomplete, wich summarizes the orignal Diamond and Pearl games perfectly. You can see it by how much stronger the Battle Frontier characters were since they're a Platinum addition
