We’re in this type of situation because the English side of Pokemon Company refuses to do shit about it. I’m just going to buy whatever I can find in stores and then primarily buy singles for English now. Sealed product is just being scalped to high heaven right now. It’s because all the hypebeasts from the sneaker reselling market have shifted over to pokemon with their bots. Japanese and Chinese are going to be my main sources for ripping and collecting until English gets their shit together.

No way in hell am I paying $300 for a booster box that hasn’t even come out yet. I can afford it, but my money will be better spent (pokemon-wise) in an out-of-print booster box from the Sword & Shield era in the same price range, like Silver Tempest, Astral Radiance, etc. Even in S&V there are better options for booster boxes like Paldea Evolved, Twilight Masquerade, Paradox Rift, etc.

I think the people buying the expensive resales are predominatly actually other investors as all comments everywhere from collectors and hobbyists are saying they arent paying marked up prices and wont be buying it, so either Pokémon will become investor only or the bubble will burst when investors cant shift product because the buyer pool is way lower. And us normal Pokémon people will come back.

Even for us resellers with e-commerce websites / livestreams, majority of us are also collectors ourselves. I refuse to restock terastal festival now because I don’t want to charge people £99 a box, nor do I want to pay £80 wholesale per box. FOMO is going overdrive! This will all end badly soon and I believe it will be when The Glory of Team Rocket comes out. There will be either a shooting, trampling, fighting or child gets hurt that authorities will get involved with PCI. The bad rap will cause people to leave the hobby when it crashes, only to return for the 30th Anniversary around the corner. My local Costco had to call in the police to control the mobs of waiting customers waiting hours before it opened. Police responded with 5 cruisers barricading the front entrance and order was restored. Each customer was allowed 2 Blooming Waters box per membership. This is freakin nuts!

I can tell you why I started buying Pokémon cards, it’s moist criticals fault. He streamed a cheap steam game “Trading Card shop simulator “ and there is a Pokémon mod for this game. It’s addictive, I love it. There cards are real Pokémon cards, and the artwork is really good on most of them, and I really want to see a lot of them irl. So I started watching videos on KZbin, people reviewing different sets and so on. Funny thing is, the timeline that everyone is talking about, how the Pokémon boom started, and when this game was released, is pretty close. A little food for thought. Great channel, it’s really good to hear about the hobby itself, and not just the hype 😊

Appreciate the effort that you put into this and the honesty and integriry that you show. I think there is a lot at play here and it does stem from the hype surrounding the last release, a broader range of stores looking to sell the cards, and the FOMO created by social media through rip & ship streamers and the "investment" channels. It's the perfect storm and multiplied by the fact that they are releasing sets that tug at the heart of a demographic that has more disposable income to throw at the product. It makes it tough for the fans of the game and collectors, but this stuff is cyclical and if you look at other "investments" of this nature going all the way back to glass bulbs, it should eventually correct itself. I just don't think it will until after the rocket set more than likely. Until then best suggestion I have for folks is to not buy into the hype, become engaged in the local community and trade for cards you want to play or collect, buy from reputable sellers such as Pokene, and don't jump into the deep end spending money you can't afford to lose... oh and have fun. 😂

We can all say what we want but in the end WE (as a group who love the hobby) control this market. We don't spend the money on these stupid pre-orders...prices drop, scalpers lose their shirts and stop (for a bit when we have to rinse and repeat). Then the market corrects. If we don't buy IMMEDIATELY, things will stabilize for a while. The only other option is Pokemon floods the market with the stuff at unprecident levels and makes them as available as a Coke or Pepsi and the same thing happens.

While not justified, I believe that people see these $300 "Enhanced" Booster boxes from Pokemon Center as somewhat equivalent to the limited edition Pokemon Center ETB because these new booster boxes now contain a box topper promo. Unclear if every booster box will contain the box topper or if it is only through booster boxes purchased through Pokemon Center at this point from what I understand.

It's pretty unlikely the set's contents will be superior to Surging Sparks. The promo for the PC etb on surging sparks is a Gen 1 pokemon with incredible art. The SIR's and IR's for Surging Sparks are arguably worth the hype. There's just no reason to be paying these insane prices. If I can get anything on Pokemon Center or preordered at MSRP I'll buy otherwise I'll pass.
