I have seen 100s of videos, forums posts etc. trying to explain what evs are and how to ev train i luckily was able to piece back together everything i ever saw and read a while ago. I doubt people still play this but I do so here's something to note. You can use sweet scent to get hordes in the rain in OrAs, you can't in X and Y but they fixed it for hoenn remakes so don't go for the numels for sp attack EVs

Just to let everyone know wild oddish with sweet scent will also sometimes come with acid which is a spread move. Its weak but it could be your only option in the early game

I'm a competitive player and have been for a while now, so this is not new to me, but I wanted to comment to say just how clear and concise this guide is for new players getting into the scene. Out of the many EV videos I've watched on youtube, this is one of the first I would recommend to a greenhorn. The abstract concepts are explained in a very down-to-Earth manner which removes a lot of the resistance to players involving themselves more deeply in the strategy of the game. Rather than go on about mathematical concepts and load too much on someone's plate, like many other videos about this subject do, you spoonfeed it to people in a very enthusiastic, approachable way. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!

I just caught a shiny Eevee with: All around above Average IV's (With Attack and Special Atk. being the perfects) Wish (Egg Move) Modest Nature This is my first shiny I ran into in the wild (Everything else has been stuff like trading, events, soft reset, ect.) I evolved it and I'm currently EV training it for Defense and Special Defense with HP being the stat that gives the small amount of EV Points.

Thanks for the locations, I maxed out sp.atk and speed with 6hp on my froakie which someone traded me, and its pretty much perfect. It has protean, naive nature, and 5iv missing attack

I don't think it was mentioned in this video, but for example, if you have your Pokemon with a power item that gives hp evs, but battle a horde that gives defense evs it will still give you hp evs. I've done this by accident, but if you just want to go to one of these hordes and switch power items to train evs it works.

To clear up any confusion: yes, you do earn EVs when you level up, but you can gain EVs even when you are level 100. Although the game may not tell you, you are still earning EVs. To track them, have the Super Training app open on the lower screen. The bar on the right will show you the amount of space you have out of 510 EVs, and the chart in the center tracks the amount for a specific stat. However, it does not tell you the paticular number. You are going to have to keep track in your head or on a piece of paper. If you are looking to reset your EVs so you can keep track of them easier, go into Super Training and spam the HELL out of that punching bag. You'll get different power bags every few punches (stylus taps). What you would be looking for is the Reset Bag, a pure white bag. If you're bag storage is full, delete the bags and keep going. Once you get one, you can select it. Select the Pokemon you want reset if you haven't already and spam the Reset Bag until your EVs are reset.

So I'm playing Omega Ruby tonight and after a long trek across the sea as well as raiding team Magma's base... Three of my pokemon have pokerus as of this moment. It wasn't like that earlier. How convenient that the three are also my three strongest pokemon in the party. And I've never even seen a shiny. Lv.61 Sceptile, Lv.54 Mightyena, and a Lv.56 Skitty.

My starter (Torchic) had Pokerus. I flipped out and even showed my friends who don't play pokemon haha. Oddly, I've never encountered a shiny pokemon other than the one time I chain fished to get a shiny Magikarp. But it's awesome because all of my pokemon naturally got good stats just playing through the story, and now I can use it to give my pokemon better stats for competitive battling.

A few quick questions (I'm new to the whole EV training scene). 1) Does just one Pokemon need the power item to get the EV's or does each one that I want to boost to go too need to be holding one? 2) How many Hoards will it take if I'm not holding a Power Item. 3) If a Pokemon I catch/hatch has some perfect stats (i.e. the ace trainer says "it can't be beat") Can I EV train the other ones? I've recently EV-trained my Beldum in attack. Beldum is now a lvl 16 with with 252 EVs in attack. Beldum's stats is 36/30/14/27/14. So far, Beldum has only gotten +2 and +3 in attack when it has leveled up. When will I see the effect of the EV-training?

The EVs gained are spread out between level 1-100. But say you start training a level 50/60/70 pokemon that has never been EV trained, it will initially get massive stat boosts in the next couple of levels to balance out… you can get 10-15-20 stats in a single level.
