If anyone is curious about what happened with Dewgong at the beginning, in gen1 ai was sorta lacking in that it prioritized move types instead of move damage or any kind of set strategies. With the ai having Dewgong it prioritized the psychic move Rest against the Bug/Poison type Beedrill allowing Lily to set up with swords dance and focus energy.

@@benjaminlaureys2603 I'm honestly not that knowledgeable enough to know why that fired off besides bad luck. The most I know is that a higher speed stat raises the chance for crit and that focus energy in this gen reduces the chance for a crit to happen.

@@ALLxISxGONE Focus energy in this version reduce to 1/4 critical chance. For example if a high critical ratio pokemon like persian (i dont remember his exactly number) with slash (a high ratio crit move) has 80% crit chance, using focus energy he only have 20%

I believe in gen 1 critical hits ignored stat boosts so if you’re at a 4x stat boost a critical actually hurts you

The Dewgong keeps using rest because it's a phsycic type move and the AI couldn't differentiate attacks vs "defense" type moves lol. So it keeps on trying to use rest as it'd be a "super effective" against the poison type beedrill

Exactly. Interesting softlock if younuse a primeape using rage. Rage would never be able to kill because its so weak and the dewgong never attacks since its always using rest

I'm shocked that Dragonite didn't use hyperbeam right off the bat. It usually does for me. Then again you came in with all bug types and it might have thrown off the ai.

Also I noticed at 22:42 that the cry for Alakazam got distorted due to the low hp beep that was overlapping and it sounded like Ghastly.

It's actually because of the Poison typing of Venomoth and Beedrill that caused it to not use Hyper Beam. The "smart" AI that Lance has made it think that Agility and Barrier were super-effective moves to use against them. Also, Alakazam and Gastly happen to share the same base for their cry. The low hp beep tends to mess with the sound stuff so it almost fully reverted Alakazam's cry right back to the base it uses.

I was gonna come in here and put on my nerdiest glasses saying “actually that focus energy lowerd your crit chanche that was dumb” until i rememberd that crits ignore your own stat boosts so they whould do way less damage and you abused bug focus energy to stop them. I applaud you sir or mam (or person) you where COOKING. Also between still getting multiple crits and getting 1/256 in that bruno battle you bot kinda unlucky lol

Focus Energy in gen1 actually lowers the likelihood of crits. The fact the a crit fired off anyway was just super unlucky.

It just doesn't make much sense to use focus energy together with sword dance! because a critical hit nullifies the attack bonuses gained by the sword dance.

That is true, however Focus Energy actually severely lowers the crit rate in Gen 1. I was trying to make them less likely to happen.

All bug moves in gen 1 are physical. The problem is that there are only 3 bug moves and they aren't great or available to most of the bug types. Twin needle is pretty much the only option here.

Justo antes se ve que Butterly le baja el "especial" con psíquico. En esta generación dicha estadística incluía tanto la faceta ofensiva como defensiva. Además el "especial" de Charizard era más bajo en dicha generación que en juegos posteriores, cuando aumentaron su ataque especial base.
