It can! I used it to get onto an island before I could use my koraidon to swim. As long as there is a pokemon within range you can throw your pokeball at them to battle, and it will teleport you to it.

Heck, I used this in one of my playthroughs to reach the north-eastern bamboo forest BEFORE I even enter Mesagoza at the beginning of the game. Just take note though, that you may want to do some grinding first as the Pokemons across that ravine is at least 10 levels higher than the ones around Los Platos, and the next available Pokecenter is like, half a country away.

I think my favorite thing about this game was the glitches aren’t that bad to have happen to you. There isn’t a “Damn it I have a game breaking glitch that ruined my save data can’t play the game”. It’s usually graphical or just problems with open world engines. I laugh every time I see a glitch in my normal play because it just adds to the experience
