Zebstrika hasn’t been in a pokedex since black and white over 12 years in the US. having a sucky movepool with only flame charge and rock smash losing hidden power and signal beam and as if gen 8 and since the Eshop on 3ds is down you have no way of getting zebstrika on the switch

What I really don't get about Zoroark is that before Black and White came out, there was a bunch of advertising around it. They were really hyping it up as this badass new mon you could use and it was going to be N's main partner. Then when the games come out, you can't get one until post game and N only uses his in your final fight with him. What the hell?!?

Look no further than Ledian if you want a Pokémon that got screwed over BAD. Horrible ability for its horrible stats, horrible moveset and it's gotten no love whatsoever over the years. And to make things worse, it's shiny form is extremely lackluster as it just gets lighter.

You could have also mentioned Darkrai. One of Gamefreaks biggest screw ups. Not only did its signature move, Dark Void, get *BUTCHERED* because of *another Pokemon* - said other Pokemon also lost access to Dark Void. Making the nerf of Dark Void utterly pointless. And it hasn't been buffed ever again. Also, *said Pokemon* is returning to Scarlet and Violet while Darkrai does not. Can you tell I am peeved off beyond belief? :)

I think part of the Dark Void nerf, as much as I hate it, was because of the introduction of Battle Royals in SM. My guess was that GF didn't like the idea of an 80% accurate sleep-inducing move in a battle format with 3 opponents, so that's probably why it got the accuracy nerf. If it was solely because of Smeargle, simply making it exclusive to Darkrai would've been enough.

Definitely Regigigas, he is without a doubt one of the most screwed over Pokémon. Blessed with incredible power, going to be one of the first super powerful normal types. Then they made it a potato for 5 turns that goes back to being a potato when switching out.

I remember doing a link battle with an irl friend back in diamond pearl days, he was a relative noob but really loved regigigas,doing his damn hardest trying to survive for 5 turns. I never got why they didnt put the rocks for Glaceon & Leafeon in HG/SS. Put the moss rock in Ilex Forest and the Ice Rock in the Ice Path there simple. The Power Plant in Kanto is right there for Nosepass and Magnezone. The fact they put the evo methods in ORAS shows they could have done it but chose not to

Leafeon and Glaceon aren't in the Johto Dex, but they could have evolved in Viridian Forest and the Seafoam Islands.

Because there had to be a reason why these evolutions didn’t exist before gen 4, and the reason is that the evolution requirements, like the icy rock for example, only existed in sinnoh where they could evolve further. It was perfect way to keep the world together. Sure it is inconcenient to trade to sinnoh just to evolve your eevee into Glaceon and Leafeon, but it is a small price to pay for the great world building it achieved

I find it funny that the Pawniard family, which took until level 52 to evolve one Pawniard into Bisharp, gained another evolution in Scarlet & Violet. Despite having to either grind for exp, or waste candy just to get a Bisharp in the first place. Good video nonetheless.

They should also revise the evolution levels for some Pokémon, Pawniard too. I mean Bisharp has a BST of 490 which is lower than Donphan, a Pokémon Phanpy evolves into starting from level 25. They did revise evolution methods/levels in SWSH and PLA before.

If I may play devils advocate, Golisopod’s signature ability is a FANTASTIC tool for nuzlockes. It’s low speed can be combatted by using first impression and sucker punch, and then with Emergency Exit you can get a clean and free switch out to another Pokémon that otherwise couldn’t come in because it couldn’t take two hits. This is specifically for hardcore rules where you can’t switch between the enemy’s Pokémon fainting.

11:54 you don't need the poke transfer to unlock them. There's a secret npc in Castelia City who unlocks the Relocator for you if you answer his questions with the phrase "EVERYONE HAPPY SIMPLE CONNECT" which can only send over those event legendaries to unlock zorua and zoroark. It's crazy, I know but honestly really cool too

One other thing worth mentioning about the Beldum line is their catch rate, which at _3_ the same as Mons like _Groudon Kyogre and Rayquaza._ It’s a completely pain in the ass to find and catch, especially if you don’t have ultra or dusk balls

My biggest pet peeve moment in ALL of Pokemon, was when Platinum REMOVED Murkrow and Misdreavus from the dex. They're not post game, they're not locked to events, they're legitimately just not obtainable without Diamond and Pearl. I've never understood this change once, it makes no sense

Technically, location based evolution wasn't _FULLY_ retired as of gen 8, it's merely been relegated to an alternative method. PL:A has a mossy rock in the first map and I'm fairly certain you can evolve Glaceon on the mountain in Paldea

Slight correction with Zoroark. Zorua and Zoroark aren’t postgame Pokémon. The Crown City Beasts and Celebi can be transferred up using the Relocator function in Castelia City, meaning you can get Zorua as early as before the third gym and Zoroark before the fourth gym. In fact, I’m pretty sure that if you transfer the Beasts and Celebi up using the Route 15 method instead, their events won’t activate.

Mienfoo also shares the burden of evolving and being obtained late. Mienfoo evolves into Mienshoa at lvl 50 and in Black and White can only be obtained at Dragonspiral Tower (which is at the 7th gym, tho it is a Ice type gym which is nice for it), Route 14 and Victory Road. At least grinding Mienfoo isn't as bad since it's physical attack and speed are decent for a pre evolution and you get it at lvl 33 so grinding it is managable... But still, just pick up a scraggy mates, better typing, captured rlly early and has the best type for a unova playthrough, fighting

Especially since Scrafty is pretty solid in gen 5 runs. Fighting/Dark was a decent defensive type in gen 5, only having two 2x weaknesses since fairy didn't exist yet, and it matches up well against 3 of the Elite 4, plus Scrafty has really good defense stats, a solid attack, and a good movepool.

Zorua is not locked behind post game in black and white, as there's an event item called the time capsule that lets you bring only the 3 shiny legendary beasts and celebi forward instead of using the poke transporter still screwed over, just, not in the same way

I think it's really funny how the Eeveelutions, bassicaly Pokemon's 2nd mascot, are always an pain in the ass to get, with Evo Stones only being in Kanto in Gen 2, Eevee can't evolve into Umbreon/Espeon in FRLG, the same with Glaceon/Leafeon HGSS (they also are an pain to get in S/M) and the worst of all....no New Evo since Gen 6 (Also, Dunsparce got recked so much by GF, an single stage Pokemon that is always an 1% enconter in an random route...and it got Dundunsparce...)

Idk I think giving us new eeveelutions is kinda played out by this point. I tend not to like gimmicks that fill up multiple slots in the Pokedex, like the elemental monkeys and the eevees. Especially with the eevees, it feels like a cheap way to make new Pokemon without much thought put into it. I'd much rather have an original dragon-type pokemon, like what we got in Duraludon. Or at the very least, new evos of Pokémon that don't have them.

Absol is a punished pokemon. It was a physical attacker in gen 3, meaning dark type was useless as a stab. It's also slow, and not bulky. Then it's mega, it's only chance, randomly gave it special attack instead of defenses or more speed, making it weaker than most other megas. AND THEN they took away the mega in gen 8, reverting it to its gen 4/5 self, which was already low tier

I love Zoroark, but team preview hurt, and it hurt even more knowing young me couldn't use a newfound favourite in my first playthrough of Black back in the day. Sceptile had its signature move leaf blade become useless to it because its attack stat is weaker than its special and it still doesn't even have a lot options on special compared to physical. Plus its hidden ability unburden is nice, but speed isn't everything if you don't do anything either

One of the other reasons why Golisopod wasn't really of much use for in-game in the Alola games was simply the fact that Araquanid is also a Water/Bug type and has such an insanely good ability that its ability is banned in Almost Any Ability.

honestly surprised you didn’t mention the unfortunate case that is Ledian. A fully evolved bug with the ever-unfortunate Bug-Flying type, high special defense but middling stats pretty much everywhere else except for it’s okay-ish speed, a level-up moveset that does not benefit it much at all… hell, it’s hidden ability is Iron Fist, and it only learns *one* punch-type move by level up. And it has an attack BST of 35???? It has an attack tie with weedle. Weedle! Some baby Pokémon have a higher attack stat than this fully evolved Pokémon! Its one saving grace when it comes to challenges is learning a decent amount of support moves and even the coveted Baton Pass, but it’s so physically frail that even in a regular playthrough it probably won’t even get a chance to sweep before it’s crushed. Gen 2 Pokémon in particular suffer a *lot* for some reason, it really feels sometimes like TPC didn’t even attempt to balance that generation??? And now just kind of wants to forget about it. Which is unfortunate, because many of those Pokémon deserve fixing. There can be no platitudes about the equality of strength unless the playing field is leveled to reflect it.

Lets not forget Typhlosion, the special attacker with only 2 special moves of coverage in only Focus Blast and SolarBeam, also has the Flash ability which is kinda bad. Compare to the other fire type starters, Game freak screwed over this pokemon and has never fixed it. Charizard has tons of special attacks and the rest have coverage. Are you telling me the pokemon known for explosions and eruptions, Learns the move "Eruption" can not use Earth Power despite it being an earth style Eruption.

I feel a good way to make golisopod better is by making you choose if you want to switch out or not, it will help it switch out on potential threat after dealing damage(unless it dies)

Another Pokemon I think of that got screwed over is Rampardos. High attack stat but the rest of its stats suck, especially its speed. Combine that with its Rock-type, it doesn't take much to take it out before it can get a hit in. The only way it could be useful if you did some setup beforehand like giving it a Quick Claw or having another Pokemon use Trick Room.

Gen 2 Yanma just leaves me scratching my head. It gets NO stab moves at all, and is too weak to use. Yanmega was a god send. Also, what is it with remakes undoing all the improvements the original expansions added? That’s the one constant between HGSS, ORAS, and BDSP. “Yeah, actually Sneasel shouldn’t be more accessible”.

Say it with me: Flareon and Regigigas. It feels like an inside joke for the devs to abuse both of these pokemon so incredibly hard, even with all the buffs Flareon ends up getting. For Flareon: physical attacker for a type that was special oriented until Gen 4, having next to no physical fire moves to take advantage of the stat, a downright worse ability than both Vaporeon and Jolteon, not getting Flare Blitz until Gen 6, can't learn Solar Beam, poor defense and speed, a defensive typing that is more weak to the types normally physical oriented (Rock and Ground) with its only other weakness being quite common. Gen 1 actually wasn't so bad for the boy because of original Special stat, so it didn't have to worry about any viable fire moves moves being, you know not viable. And then by Gen 2, the split happened, gutting Flareon, and it's been struggling ever since. It's just sad for probably my favorite of the eeveelutions design-wise. As for Regigigas, do I even need to say it?

Even aside the fact it's unobtainable in HGSS, Glaceon has been screwed over by its evolution method. Since ice rock must be located in an icy location, and these locations tend to only appear in the late game, well you usually have to wait a lot before you can get a Glaceon. In every game from gens 4 to 7, the ice rock is located between gyms 6 and 7, with the exception of HGSS where it's absent, and the Alola games where it's located right before the League.

In Gen I, Flareon had 130 Attack and 110 Special. This is very respectable. If you're not using Charizard and you're playing one of the games where Vulpix isn't available, it's arguably your best option for a Fire Type in Kanto. Sure, Arcanine exists, but Arcanine doesn't learn Flamethrower in Gen I, nor is Flamethrower a TM! If you want your Arcanine to have a STAB move that isn't the wildly unreliable Fire Blast or fuckin' Ember, you've got to keep Growlithe in its base form until Lv.50. Flareon gets the move slightly later at Lv.54 (or 52 in Yellow), but gets the unreliable but very cheesy Fire Spin along the way. While realistically, both are stuck with Ember for most of the game, Flareon's Embers are coming off of a Special stat of 110, and Growlithe's are coming off a Special stat of _50._ But hey, when you finally get through all of that to get Arcanine, it's worth it, right? Yeah nah Arcanine's offensive stats (AKA basically the only ones that matter in an in-game playthrough) are 110 Attack and 80 Special. _Flareon consistently hits harder than it._ Arcanine's singular advantage is that it's faster, at 95 Speed vs. Flareon's 65, so it crits more often. So while Flareon wasn't ever going to set the competitive scene on fire (because fire literally sucked in Gen I meta), if you were playing in-game then you weren't selling yourself short by turning your Eevee into a Flareon. Then Gen II happened. Flareon's mighty 110 Special was dumped into Sp.Def, where it's totally useless because Flareon's got 65 base HP and isn't going to be tanking anything. It was given an okay but underwhelming Sp.Atk of 95, and now it was just Worse Arcanine. It got worse in Gen IV, where Arcanine and Rapidash got appreciable physical Fire STAB and Flareon got... Fire Fang. They don't even give the poor guy Flame Wheel. But then, finally, Gen VI gave Flareon access to Flare Blitz. Too bad its a recoil move and Flareon has 65 base HP and 60 Defense, so clicking Flare Blitz is basically suicide. Can we get some good physical Fire attacks that don't require you to be a biped and aren't signature moves?

Did you know that in HGSS the Viridian Forest and Seafoam Islands COULD serve as places for you to get Eevee to evolve into Glaceon or Leafeon? Regarding Power Plant in HGSS, well, there are no wild Pokémon there in HGSS, only on Route 10, so this would have to be the place for Magneton and Nosepass. Also damn, what you've said about Sneasel's location being once again relegated to Mt Silver in HGSS reminded me how you couldn't get an early Growlithe like in Crystal... Damn the hindering faithfulness to the obsolete first two games.

Espeons absence from Fr/Lg sucks, as it actually would be the best eeveelution to beat the story with; and would allow it access to Baton Pass. Without that, it's functionally a worse Alakazam, but not by much. I was disappointed when I hacked one in and had no way to put BP on it lol. I would agree it sucks for people only having Ruby or Sapphire only being able to use Metagross in the Tower. At least in this day and age people can get the rom for emerald where it is essential in beating the battle frontier.

Luxray is my favorite mon, and has terrible speed for an electric type, and not a very diverse pool. It also is stuck with a monotype, so no extra defenses there.. it's overall decent but.. aaaaAAA please luxray learn better moves or something

As soon as I saw the title Golisopod immediately came to mind. It's my #1 favorite pokemon that unfortunately has one of the WORST abilities next to truant and slow start. It does nothing but hinder a pokemon that would be amazing otherwise, and they refused to give it a hidden ability to try and avoid it. I still love it to death, but I can't help but feel like Golisopod got undeservingly screwed by Game Freak's awful design choice

That bit near the end with Larvesta, Rufflet, Vullaby and Pawniard really got to me. Game Freak shoots themselves in the foot for no real reason because of their refusal to change things that need to be changed (and yet they also love changing things that DIDN'T need a change *cough cough* forced exp share and affection) Is there any reason that Pawniard needs to evolve so god damn late, *especially* now that it's a three stage line? Giving Braviary a regional form was the perfect opportunity to change its evolution level, but it's STILL 54, for both forms. But the thing is, other Pokemon have gotten easier methods for their evolutions, like Magnezone or the Sinnoh Eeveelutions. So they are capable of changing other evolutions, but they don't. Hell, why are Espeon and Umbreon still friendship evolutions when the Sun and Moon stone exist? Why did they change Sylveon to a friendship evolution when the affection merge happened when the shiny stone exists? They could have had every single Eeveelution evolve from a stone and it could have been perfect. But they just choose not to. And I genuinely can't figure out why.

Easy. Pokémon are basically designed first and “balanced” later. And by balanced, I mean whatever they think sort of catches it up, if they feel like it, in such a way that the initial idea is not reduced, and if that initial idea is “bulky Ice-type”, “physical Electric-type”, “Rock-type that is not the Nacli line”, “Psychic type that does not use Psychic Terrain”, “Bug type that is not Butterfree or Venomoth”, etc., it is always doomed to fail.

Pokemon whose level up move pools consist mostly of attacks that use the worse of their two attacking stats. I always complain about this with sceptile, sure it doesn't have the worst attack stat, but it's not fantastic either. It learns a lot of physical slashing moves including its old signature leaf blade, and back in gen 3 when type determined physical or special it's high special attack was good for leaf blade, dragon claw, and pursuit. But very next gen all of those moves became physical. I think pokemon needs a chance and excuse to essentially redo the stats and movepools of certain pokemon to better match their designs. Dusknoir is similarly screwed over in PLA, where the only physical ghost move it learns is Shadow Sneak, because for some reason they didn't think/bother to include Shadow Punch.

Evolution stones are only alternative methods for triggering location-based evolutions, the locations can still be used if available. So it's strictly worse to not have that option.

You forgot to mention Jangmo-o and Clobbopus in this vid. As almost a reaction against the gen 5 late evolutions, these guys evolve immediately after you are able to catch them. While it may make them more viable in later gens, their locations in the games they're introduced in make using them an ephemeral experience.

Swoobat is really unfortunate in my opinion. Its supposed to be the Golbat of Unova, but even that pokemon has higher stats than it. On top of that, Sigilyph is avaliable not long after Woobat, and in B2W2 Zubat is avaliable before than Woobat.

For Glaceon in particular, before SwSh it was basically impossible to use it on a playthrough team without trading bc the Ice Rock was ALWAYS either towards the end of the main game or in the post game. So if you truly wanted to use a Glaceon on your main team you either had to spend an awful lot of time grinding it back up or just use an Eevee for a huge chunk of the game and miss out on a ton of STAB ice moves via level up.

They probably did so. Things like making sure Brute Bonnet cannot have a good speed stat and the nerfing of Gale Wings and Dark Void and the intentional addition of Slow Start to every single time Regigigas exists mean that they do intentionally add features to screw over specific Pokémon.

Actually you don't need Poketransfer to unlock Zorua or Zoroark. The Poketransfer actually makes it so you CAN'T get Zorua or Zoroark if you bring Celebi or the Legendary Beasts in through it. There's a specific character in Castelia City that will transfer these Pokémon for you and actually lets them keep the ability to unlock Zorua and Zoroark. The thing is that it'll *only* transfer these Pokémon and the unreleased Locked Box, which would have contained the tm for Snarl.

I actually transferred a Beldum that I IV bred into Alpha Sapphire. To be sure, Take Down does cause recoil damage, so you can't use it for long, but I remember it being great at early levels because it causes tremendous damage to non-resisting mons due to its high base power! Beldum's many resistances means that it can also shrug off many types of attacks!
