I always hate the argument "you first should buy the game yourself and then have a opinion." No. If a game looks not interesting enough, or straight up bad, then it's definitely not worth spending 60€. If I am still not interested in buying, even after watching videos about the game or even Let's Plays, then they just failed to make me buy the game. This is where I stopped after Gen 5. Gen 5 and 4 are definitely my favorites. But I am not necessarily saying that every game after that is bad, but it's just not interesting enough. Atleast there are some good rom hacks for Gen 4 and Gen 5 games that not only increase the difficulty, but also fix many problems and add a lot of quality of life changes.

I completely agree. Pokémon devolved instead of evolving and it's a pity as there would be so much potential. What breaks my heart is that those low effort mediocre games are being sold so well and good Monster collecting RPGs line SMT are being ignored.

I enjoyed Let's Go significantly more than BDSP. The forced experience share removed any potential difficulty from BDSP, AND they were just *painfully* slow. Especially when high happiness dialogue between *every* turn slowed things down even more. Push a button, set the controller down and wait. Repeat until the enemy is at 0hp. Waiting to get BDSP until after I had beaten SMT V definitely didn't help - Pokemon has always been a little slow running, and SMT V very much isn't, but BDSP does seem *especially* bad about gameplay speed. Get stuck in that mud/tar and it's over 30 seconds before you can escape. That's just an insane delay. I know myself and my own weaknesses. I'll probably end up buying Gen9 of Pokemon. But so far, I'm likely to skip Legends. The setting is a neat diversion (even if it breaks the timeline for some of the other games), but it's not entirely new ground (and I've already played Pokemon Conquest).

I'm always going to be a fan. I'll always look into what the next game is going to be like, maybe catching a few anime episodes (Won't watch that thing to the end, no) and look at card scans and say they're neat, but I'm not going to support them, not they way they work now. On 3DS, the machine I bought just so I could play ORAS and the rest of the games, has more hours registered in SMT IV after a single playthrough than XY,ORAS and SM combined! The lack of features and overall content, leaving you only with competitive battling which is not everyone's cup of tea, is a horrendous excuse for a compelling post game, and there was literally no incentive to keep playing after the league (XY sorry excuse of a SINGLE new town in the ENTIRE region to "Explore", ORAS over hyped bullet point adventure that's only good because of Zinnia and her lore, SM overabundance of cutscenes that more than added to those 20 hours of gameplay plus the lazy new additions in USUM). In a way, this series will always be part of me, but my money is better spent buying games from Atlus like SMT V or P4G or from Nintendo itself like Metroid Dread or Mario Odyssey, not something that, at best, is going to give me 20 hours that'll mean nothing afterwards.
@Jdudec367 Жыл бұрын
I mean on the 3DS it was not all lack of features or overall content, not really ORAS and gen 7 had more then that and so did XY, so it is not a horrendous excuse for a compelling post game, there was, title defense, side quests, new areas, new story, legendary Pokemon etc, Delta Episode is over over hyped and is not a bullet point adventure and it is not just good because of Zinnia but also because of the adventure itself, not really it was not 20 hours and the new additions of USUM like Rainbow Rocket Ultra Wormholes improved difficulty a better plot totem boss fight changes etc are not lazy additions.
@marka.t.s.8344 Жыл бұрын
@@Jdudec367 That's how it may appear at first, but it's all in the execution: XY has a plethora of areas that were either undeveloped or straight up inaccessible, the minor content there is after the league is mostly just about battling, or about developing characters that are exclusive to the post game rather than your rivals or AZ and the war that happened. It's clear so many elements of these entries were cut for multiple reasons, but as they stand, these are subpart. ORAS fares better than XY in a lot of aspects, and setting aside things I didn't like that come from Hoenn as an actual place and it's characters (That still left a lot to be desired), the games are a fun time until the credits. But they still repeat many of XY flaws with the implementation of Megas and the balance of the game, justifying reducing content that would have legitimately fleshed out the new fairy type and the myriad of changes to the battle system (The Battle frontier and all it's facilities) saying the consumers just wouldn't be interesting in such, which considering all these games implemented, seems counterintuitive. And yes, The Delta Episode is cool lore wise and for the repercussions on the series as a whole, but gameplay wise it's nothing special, doesn't provide with a new area or the repurposing of an existing one (Imagine exploring underwater caverns with puzzles in line with the Regis, or a small set of settlements in the sky, maybe even a couple of Islands with the secret bases that have markings on the walls or were actual ruins of dragonkin people' homes). And as an opinion, the entire going to space cutscenes sounds cool in theory, but I can't help but think it's a little over the top and takes away from the fantasy, at least for me. SM and USUM are not much better, promising an enormous amount of content that gets reduced to mashing the A button in unskipable cutscenes (which wouldn't be so bad in other games) just so you can get sent to a corridor with small decorations or lengthy, not exciting fetch quest in a map that never quite reaches the layered atmosphere of old gens. There were good things that came out of the 3DS era, but it is clear why it stands as an era of decadence in most people's eyes. That doesn't mean one can't enjoy these games, but I'd argue is worse to like something, acknowledging it's flaws, and realizing it could have been so much better, just so you'll know that every time you experience it again.
@Jdudec367 Жыл бұрын
@@marka.t.s.8344 it is, true, there is some major content too and postgame in Pokemon games is usually about battling anyways, true but that was not a bad thing. Hoenn's characters were improved though like Wally Maxie and Archie for example. Megas are not a full on flaw as they have their pros too and the balance is not too bad but ORAS is too easy, true getting rid of Battle Froniter does suck and is a issue. Nah gameplay wise it is special and provides Sky Pillar as a new area and it was pretty fun to reexplore areas you have already been to. In a franchise like Pokemon going to space is not really over the top or at least that much and does not take away from the fantasy. They are much better actually, it does not get reduced to that at all, there is new gameplay and stuff to do as I explained and the story changes are overall great, the fetch quest are exciting like the ditto one and it does reach the layered atmosphere of old gens and even surpasses them as Alola has a very peaceful harmonic vibe to it that is filled with life as you can hear cries from nearby Pokemon and at times you can even see them too like Magmar at Wela Volcano Park. Not really I mean heck gen 5 is the gen that started removing features and is when the games started getting linear but it is considered peak Pokemon by most people. Well yeah but it could make your feelings on it more negative at times.
@marka.t.s.8344 Жыл бұрын
@@Jdudec367 The problem, as I said, it's the execution. To put it shortly, no matter how interesting an idea is within the game, or how cool some minor features or mini games are, the worlds these stories, these adventure games take place feels smaller and smaller with each entry. For example, Kalos is a beautiful region that I'm sure if GF had the time or the chance to fully develop or, at the very least, put out Z, it would easily be one of the best, but no, they didn't or couldn't, and the final product is as it is. I know I probably sound biased, since my real problem here is with the Switch releases as those are the ones I have major problems with, but many of the issues that plagued those games can be seen as early as gen 6 (Maybe even 5, as you said), and I think there's some truth in saying that the 3DS era featured good, fun games, but with more flaws than their predecessors and, in my personal opinion, in the case of ORAS even ignoring some of the things that made RSE so unique OR areas where it could have been even better.
@Jdudec367 Жыл бұрын
@@marka.t.s.8344 I get it it is the execution but I still disagree, I have not played the Switch games myself yet to be honest in fact I started playing Pokemon on the 3DS with X being my first Pokemon game almost a decade ago now and have now gone backwards to play the older games instead of deciding to get the newer games and have only just started playing BW2 a couple days ago now but playing the older games I can say that the places the 3DS games take place in do not feel smaller. True but the 3DS games were not all more flawed then their predecessors and at times fixed issues their predecessors had.

I stopped playing around the time Let's Go came out, since I was disappointed by a lack of content, and I was ok with that. The Gen 4 remakes though were just depressing to see. Sinnoh was what started my love for Pokemon, and to see something so soulless released really did put the last nail in the coffin for me. I held out so much hope they would do it justice and from the first trailer I could see it wasn't meant to be.

I got into pokémon Gen 2 when I got my very first hand held because I was poor and went backwards to play yellow after starting with Crystal. Anyway pokemania basically died during gen 3 so I skipped that entirely and was then gifted a copy of Pearl, I would not say that Gen 4 is my favorite but it did so many things right by the time we got to Gen 5 I couldn't stand how slow the game was and I honestly hate it that I then went and bought a copy of white 2, and never even finished it. I thought I was completely burnt out until Gen 6 came and completely revived my faith in Pokemon which is the exact opposite opinion of what most people have because everyone seems to love generation 5 and I can't stand it. I had more fun just skating around Kalos then my entire time being walled off from 40% of the content in unova. Fast forward to gen 7 and I actually enjoyed my copy of sun I didn't think it was perfect by any means and I was basically phoning it in during the middle of the game but it picked up for me at the end and I actually enjoyed it and when I ended up buying ultrasun I never even finished it because I was getting honestly tired of retreading through games just for a handful of NPCs and some extra content... Pretty much all my faith in Pokemon was really low then however then I played sword and I actually enjoyed the beginning but it fell apart at the end however I did at least beat the elite four and start the first DLC but I never finished them. Pokemon is a really mixed bag for me and I don't have fun the way most people who play Pokemon do I am almost purely 100% a collector and that's what I'm playing for not necessarily getting the perfect Pokemon stopwise or all the shinies or perfect IVs for breeding or something. I just want to look at a really big number and feel satisfied about it and to my credit if I could and felt like it I could bring every single Pokemon up from my DS all the way to the current generation if I tried I think pending Nintendo didn't do some more bs. But back to the topic of the Gen 4 remakes, as much as I loved what it did for the DS and fully utilizing the features of the dual screens I don't think I could go through this all again and honestly the main driving factor for that in my book is the art style which I just cannot stand, I really don't like the let's go style. So I believe you're completely justified in your rant about Pokemon dropping the ball in several courts.

I think a key component they need for future pokemon stability is to not restrict new pokemon to new games and accept not having every pokemon every gen. As someone who also has been playing since Red and Blue on original GB and played every version since on every console literally I kept giving the poke company benefit of doubt on certain things since it's always a learning curve for them learning how to graphically upgrade the game and then the hardware changes then it's learning all over again hence the release of the second versions after the first 2 version release on every console it's like the originals is a trial then they make a better version with graphical and story upgrades then the console changes and they have to learn it all over again but this time around they had plenty of chances to learn the hardware and build assets and models so it's less taxing and eventually allowed them to put everything they learnt together and release Legends Arceus which is an absolutely amazing and really well thought out game even though it was short I enjoyed every moment of it from start to end

With Gen 8 I'm just cynical and pissed off when I think of the main series. I stick to PMD now. I'll probably not hop on to Legends. It'll have to prove it's worth a damn first. I'm not sure if I can call myself a Pokémon fan anymore I agree with all of your grievances, but I'm even less hopeful. Game Freak is prioritizing money over game design. Shitting out terrible games makes money, so they don't need to try anymore. And they won't. I doubt they ever will unless a game tanks.

Oh boy, its finally time. We've both discussed our thoughts on Pokémon over the last few generations, and as far as I could tell we tended to agree about most of these points. - XY NEEDED a Z version, and its criminal that they left Gen VI in the dust just to jump ship to ORAS. And the reason for leaving out Battle Frontier is absurd. - SMs tutorial is the worst part of Gen VII, and the fact it wasn't made optional in USUM tells me Pokémon Company didn't believe players complaints about it until it happened a second time. - The entire design philosophy of Pokémon feels like it abruptly shifted from Gens I-V to VI-VIII. It went from slower improvements/evolving the series story and gameplay wise to just wanting to throw the game out to masses, simplifying it and just trying to mask that with gimmicks (Megas, Z-Moves, Gigantamaxing) - I will never forgive Pokémon Company for saying that Let's Go was a good idea. I know why it exists, and I absolutely hate it for that reason. - Swsh feels like they wanted to do something big with it, then got strangled by either a bad release date, executive pressure, or bad planning, it reeks of needing more time to iron out its overly basic design, and I still haven't ever touched it. - BDSP (which is still a bad acronym as its one letter away from....you know) feels like it goes against everything the Pokemon remakes were supposed to be. Bringing the older generation back with new life, features and even additions to reimagine them, and it doesn't even have something like ORAS' Delta episode to attempt to have a brand new segment to the game. It just....is, and it feels more like they did BDSP out of obligation rather than genuine drive, given it wasn't even Game Freak handling it as they're off trying to reinvent the wheel for once with Legends Arceus. - Yes. They should have a reworked schedule, as Game Freak is too small a company and shown so far they can't push for a truly great game with what they've released in the last few years under the current scheduling. Its wishful thinking, but its thinking nonetheless

Soo... I am gonna be bluntly honest, due to the fact that the only Pokemon media I actually care about being the Mystery Dungeon games. Whenever there is some controversy or whatever with the mainline games. My instant reaction is "Wow! That's interesting but I sure dont care!" and just go on with my stuff. But still, this was very depressing to hear... If nothing else, to at least TRY to cheer you up a bit? Have you read the Pokemon Special manga? I have heard that in some aspects. Its superior to the games. However this is just stuff that I have heard, as the Special manga... I kinda feels like its fandom its a really disconnected place from the games and the anime. Almost as if it was a completely different series, or well.. That's the impression I get.

I've read the Mangas yes, they certainly showcase how bad of an idea it is to give Pokemon to just about everyone, when some people will level a city with one just because they're bored. But they're fine books, I think I still like the games more (including Mystery Dungeon) but it's interesting to see an artist take the story of one of the games and change it in such drastic ways.

ORAS is a better remake then FRLG as FRLG added some stuff added in but ORAS had dexnav, soaring on Latios and Latias, new plot changes and a awesome new post game plot. HGSS does not trump ORAS in every way as ORAS did improve the story way more and such. Crystal barely had any plot changes and Delta Episode is not weird, it is pretty cool and did not do anything haphazardly. Sure the battle frontier missing sucked but really the battle frontier is not even all that amazing and can get pretty tedious to even train good enough Pokemon for. Also they made sure ORAS was packed with stuff to do too and it is not like HGSS even fixed the main issues of gen 2 which as a remake is a issue. The decline of Pokemon did not even start until the jump to the Switch really. Ultra Sun and Moon did not really undo anything actually. USUM did improve the 5 hour opening and make it shorter but again you praise HGSS despite it not fixing gen 2s infamous wonky level curve and weird Pokemon distribution. I mean most kids can sit through 3 hours of dialogue.
