@@ItsJustKaya i’m not the most knowledgeable on VGC but no?? Pachirisu’s role was redirection with Follow Me, which Pikachu/Raichu cannot replicate in any way. Pikachu is also significantly less bulky with 35/40/50 defenses vs. Pachirisu’s 60/70/90 and would get flattened by the Draco Meteor it famously lives. the rest of the set a Raichu could compare to with Nuzzle and Endeavor (though it only got access to this the year after) as well as Fake Out and Volt Switch, but it would play a much different role to Pachirisu, and not one that fit on his team.

honestly I always felt this way about my Favorite: Heliolisk +Decent Coverage +Ghost Immunity +decent Speed and Sp Atk +Flexible Abilities which can potentially let you slot it in 3 different weather teams if Sand Veil wasn't banned honestly, on rain I found that Dry Skin Heliolisk does some fun things, especially with Surf and Thunder. I would never say it could "cut it" in higher tiers but it is decent in my eyes

I have had an obsession with heliolisk and running him as well. hes kinda good on rain teams since people dont expect the water immunity, which could be abused against vish back when he was relevant and a lot of people didnt expect it which could change entire games. I find the most success with solar power heliolisk

Yeah but then those player completely warp multiplayer to THEIR play style, you really have to go out of your way to find other players who like to goof off with their favorite mons. I think the concept of "meta" and leaderboards kinda warps gaming entirely and breeds negativity. Tell me what's more likely, someone being toxic in a friendly goofy match, or a typical competitive match. I don't know if this is already being done, but it would be interesting to have a Showdown format where every Pokemon is assigned a point value based on how good they are, and then players have a set number of points they can spend to build their team. If you want to run a team with only the best, you would potentially have a team with less than six Pokemon. The "best" Pokemon in such a format would be those that can give the most bang for their buck, and give Pokemon that would otherwise be completely unviable a chance to shine.

I mean, I used to use Jolteon A LOT in OU due to its unique combination of fast Electric STAB (Volt Switch, really) and Heal Bell. Choice Specs made it hit plenty hard, while Volt Absorb kept it and my Alomomola alive, kept my team safe from Thunder Wave and blocked Choice'd Rotoms from spamming Volt Switch. It worked well enough up until Gen 8, but it is sorely outclassed by multiple other Pokémon if you didn't need the surprise Heal Bell Hail Mary... It is less me supporting Jolteon like this video insists one must do, but rather that Jolteon supported the rest of my team. While you can never underestimate the unexpected and unconventional, you can't just use whatever you want and expect to win. ...which is to say that for every NU Pokémon I used in OU and won with, I lost with a dozen more (Flareon is actually just trash and Glaceon is about as unusable as it gets).

@@carnage0685 they all have pretty crappy movepools and fill only very specific niches that are done better by their competitors, for the ones that aren't inherently bad like sylveon and umbreon, they're too slow, and in the case of the latter, passive. a fair portion of the eeveelutions' stats aren't well distributed either. it sucks, i love the eeveelutions like anybody would but i agree that megas are the only way to get them at least somewhat viable, that or some major movepool additions or stat reworks

@@carnage0685 Pretty simple. All of them are held back by their shallow movepools. And be honest, when was the last time you ever saw an eeveelution in serious competitive play? The highest tiered eeveelution currently is Umbreon in RU. Sylveon, Vaporeon and Espeon are in NU. Jolteon, Flareon, Leafeon and Glaceon are all stuck in ZU, which is the lowest tier.

I used to use it constantly back when I played more seriously. Got on the Showdown OU leaderboards with it once or twice, with an unexpected Heal Bell set. Volt Absorb kept it and my Alomomola/Milotic/etc alive, Specs let it revenge kill quite a lot of things and Volt Switch let me get damage off (or even KO's) while maintaining momentum. It having access to Wish and Heal Bell is literally its only saving grace, the one thing it has that other Electric-type pivots did not have. And even then- there were many games where I didn't particularly need the Hell Bell...

Ngl Jolteon always was so fun to make work for me. I remember in gen 4 OU I would use a bulky support Jolteon with Rain Dance and Damp Rock Jolteon with T-Wave, Light Screen and Thunder that was great at baiting electric moves aimed at my Skarmory, Scyther and Kabutops, and set rain up right away. It actually got me to 15xx on the Showdown ladder!

There are people that have nothing to gain from playing competitive pokemon optimally/at a high level, so they find the most fun in building their teams around random pokemon, not caring about opportunity costs in the slightest since they are never going to tournaments anyways so they just want to push different pokemon to their limits and what their team needs to be to make that happen

It bothers me that GameFreak doesn't properly buff older Pokemon between gens more. It's ridiculous. So many Pokemon need to be buffed to keep up with the powercreep. Some mons get new tools, sure, but they need to pull an Empoleon (giving better abilities) much more oftern. They should really also do base stat redistributions to an extreme degree.

How can ledian be bad? With Mach punch it can hit zacian crowned before it moves. And it's Mach punch is boosted by iron fist. Famously overpowered pokemon like calyrex ice rider and xeneas just get out sped and ohkoed by zacian so ledian is better than xeneas and ice rider

Some pokemon can't be good in competitive because... well Gamefreak just makes them better in game, some mons can carry your playthrough but not competitive Flareon recieved Flare Blitz too late for competitive but in an XY playthrough yeah it can demolish the ice type gym in a game where you can change pokemon before the rival sends the next one There are some solid mons for your games that are stucked in PU/ZU

@@josephbulkin9222 in a playthrought yeah almost any, I remembering finishing my first fire red run with a Wigglytuff not even knowing there was a competitive spectrum, Pelipper is decent for playthoughs even before the buff, Swoobat carried some of my first nuzlocke in BW2, I bet a lot of people had stuff that helped them even tho they werent competitive mons

@@_puduposting oh, boy Swoobat. So, I got one with Klutz when I played White. It got railed by Lenora's Watchog, and I replaced it with Sigilyph as soon as I could, mon with the same typing that does its job ten times better.

I think Archeops can enter to this. Had potential being a good Pokemon, having good both attack stats and speed stat, but GF ruined that potential giving the non-sensical ability Defeatist, which his attack stats are halved when it's at 50% HP, but what's worst? GF didn't give a second ability or a hidden ability.

I ran a Magic Bounce Xatu on UU-OU Smogon before, forgot which gen was the latest, but it had Psychic, Air Slash iirc, Giga Drain, and Heat Wave set. Imo the biggest reason by far is because new pokemon come out that fully eclipse the old ones. Nidoking is OU in Gen 2 despites its poor stats because it has a valuable and unique set of traits, but as soon as the next gen introduces new ground types like Claydol/Swampert and new mixed attackers like Salamence/Metagross (and Nidoking loses lovely kiss) that all have better stats and/or traits, they're going to take its place unless a new move or ability (Sheer Force) gives it a second wind. But even Sheer Force Nidoking would be obsoleted by Landorus-I if it wasn't trapped in Ubers

Every pokemon has tools to be usable, but usable isn't always enough. Top-tier pokemon are usually top-tier either because they can do a lot (see Iron Valiant) so they're versatile, or because they are just the pinnacle of their role and no one else can do it better (see Regieleki). Once in a blue moon you may get a situation where you need to fulfill a role that is uniquely held by one obscure pokemon, and that is when you get a Pachirisu winning Worlds, but short of that you're choosing to battle at a disadvantage by picking a suboptimal pokemon. Which is fine, and fun. But still a disadvantage

I thought of a gimmick for Jolteon awhile back but I’m not very competitively inclined so let me know if it’s viable. Max speed and sp. atk, timid nature, quick feet ability with flame orb. The aim is to make Jolteon always out speed the opponent by a wide margin so electro ball will always hit at full power (up to 150 power I think). Kind of like using its speed as the offensive stat.
