Y'know, it's honestly a little weird to think of colosseum and XD as spin offs if you think about it- the gameplay's the same, the only differences are that shadow Pokemon exist, you catch them from other trainers instead of catching wild Pokemon, and all battles are double battles. Otherwise they're literally just normal Pokemon games but edgier (and with great animations)

Your partner was your best friend so the departure was heart crushing but they rejoined like 10 minutes later and literally days after he suggests you to basically split up, only to never visit you again in the morning so he gets treated like any other Pokémon you recruited. Meanwhile in Explorers of the Sky your partner isn't just your friend, he's your soulmate. From the moment you met you never left his side. You lived together, slept together and basically did everything together. And they don't immediately rejoin after the MC departs. Instead the partner struggles to get back home alome and suffers for multiple months trying to get over the pain until he suffers a mental breakdown at the beach while remembering you. And after they finally rejoin he insists on staying at your side for the rest of the game (you can go into dungeons alone but atleast in the overworld they always stick together).

TPC really tried bringing Pokken to the competitive scene though, sadly the more casual people kept saying the game is too "campy" and "spammy" even though it's really not. They saw Fennekin once in the Grand Finals one day and said it's too boring to watch.
