There are other variables to consider, like the probability of it not using Horn Drill, but to hit 3 times in a row (and break through paralysis twice) is ~1.5%.

@@johnmartinez7440 to be fair I think that guys Nidoking almost always spams Horn Drill unless it has a super effective move, and even then I think it prefers Horn Drill The 2nd trainer in Prime Cup is similar to this guy

The AI chooses its Pokemon based on yours. It generates what it thinks is the 10 best team combinations against your team and then randomly chooses out of those 10 each time. But there are a few exceptions. Some of the very weak trainers choose completely randomly. And some trainers (like gym leaders) have a certain Pokemon they are forced to always choose. There's also a few trainers that only choose between the top row and bottom row, so only have 2 possible teams (there's one in Poke Cup that seems to do this).

I know they gave the grunt that line because his whole strategy is exploding, but when you sweep him it comes off as a pathetic attempt to save face and it never fails to make me chuckle. That Horn Drill dude was insane. He didn't just hit three 1HKO moves in a row, he also got through paralysis to land them. This is 1% crit with very low accuracy during a Fire Emblem Ironman levels of BS.

Starmie is still pretty useful in Stadium 2 even if it was massively nerfed. It has the speed to always be useful. And Zap Canon sucks, but sometimes the guaranteed paralysis if it hits *really* comes in clutch.

Challenge Cup is going to be a nightmare due to a lot of resets getting good teams with nice move sets!

Challenge Cup is the easiest part of the whole game (if you're playing without transfer pack at least). The random movesets are usually much better than the rental ones. And they also randomise balanced teams for you. Round 1 you can beat with pretty much any team they give you. I've played it so many times and I never reset for a better team. I probably have a 99% win rate on Round 1, maybe a 75% win rate on Round 2. If you reset for good teams it's too easy and boring, it's a really fun format otherwise as it forces you to use Pokemon you'd never normally use and be creative with some of the odd movesets you get. In speedruns they reset constantly for teams because they are looking for fast, strong Pokemon with strong STAB moves. From their perspective it is faster to reset a dozen times for another team that can get a lot of OHKOs and move first most of the time. They're not resetting because the teams they're given are impossible to win with (usually, occasionally you do get a truly awful team, but it's very rare), they're resetting because they want to beat the world record so they want a team with Alakazam with Psychic, Starmie with Surf, Jolteon with Thunderbolt, etc. They could win with a team with Snorlax with Headbutt, Meganium with Giga Drain, Blissey with Counter, etc, it would just be slower and would need more switching, strategy, predictions, etc. The Ultra Ball round is probably the hardest, because there's a lot of "awkward" Pokemon there like Shuckle, Forretress, Sneasel, Gligar, Golbat, etc, and it's probably the least balanced metagame of them all. There aren't so many of the traditional fast + strong + good STAB moves Pokemon that you can get, just a few like Kadabra, Raichu, and so on. So I'd recommend to KZbinrs not to reset for good teams, for the entertainment value. It's the most fun, and also the easiest, part of the game, no need to speed through it. Maybe if they really struggle they can start resetting for really good teams, but I don't think they'll need to.

Yeah they're stuck in a weird rock/hard place it seems. If they upload the original games they'll need a way to trade them right? Part of these games difficulty was wanting people to use their own mons, not the rentals. But even if we don't consider how to do such trades or NS storage acknowledgements, is it just them worrying about taking away from a future potential sale later? Those games WERE on the 3DS for sale at a point. Maybe they worry about yet another remake getting sales diminished due to adding the games/features. Doesn't make sense to me honestly.

As Tama Hero outlined in her video, it almost seems like a deliberate attempt to limit the content available in gen 1/Stadium because otherwise they could upstage modern Pokemon games as Stadium/Stadium 2 almost act like an extended postgame for gens 1 and 2 respectively. With the Pokemon company insistent on pumping out games every year and leaving substanitive postgame content to DLC, it seems very purposeful to bastardize the Stadium games, and this also happened because they waited sooo long to do NSO online with the 3ds eshop having closed perhaps something could have been worked out between the 3ds and switch

nice to see you play this, the only rental recommendations I have would be to try Jumpluff, Tentacruel, Vaporeon, Fearow, and Magmar, they are generally pretty good leads or tanks in all modes, you seemed to find a lot of the good ones on your own

Ah. This is where the real nostalgia is for me. Although I owned both, I played Stadium 2 a lot more than 1. Are you going to do Earl's training school as well? I remember doing that with my best friend and finding it pretty challenging. I have a particularly strong memory of this one NPC who kept swapping out of every single type disadvantage, it was so obnoxious. Good times.

Trainer school was the first time I'd ever really considered tactics and move combos like that. And as much as I like Stadium 1 minigames, I think Stadium 2 minigames were much more fun to play with friends. I'm very happy this is out on Switch so soon after Stadium 1.

Another reason to emulate. Pretty much the only way to load your gameboy games these days is to also emulate the gameboy games, and then emulate the transfer pack. Works in most recent mupen builds, including the retroarch core.

Still perplexed as to why Stadium 1/2 are on Switch Online VC despite RBY and GSC not getting the same treatment (those games released prior on 3DS VC). Would be cool to see some kind of Transfer Pak emulation with those games.

Rock Slide was a TM back in Gen 1 yes, but Aerodactyl wasn't compatible with it. Lance's Aerodactyl in Gen 2 knowing it makes me think they planned on making Rock Slide a TM in Gen 2 and making Aerodactyl compatible with it, but changed their minds.

As a kid I'm sad at how little I used the transfer paks I had cause i just never imagined you could do so much with them. Nowadays thanks to emus it's not a big deal but the moment NSO adds transfers to it from pokemon gbc games I'm down to stop using emus and paying the higher tear of NSO. Otherwise I rather enjoy it my way. To be fair I like the n64 additions. Just no pokemon stadium transfers, no sale for me there.

It's not so much that they were bad, it was the special stat that was separated that made it alot harder to cheese them quick fights like stadium 1 has. So for an example, Mewtwo is still strong but now can be counter more consistently.

I know on Pokémon Stadium 1 I had to relay on watching guides to help with picking teams of Rentels for R2 and even then I had to utter abuse the Nintendo Switch save States to complete R2 and even with all that I still am unable to 100% it do to my inability to put Mewtwo into the Hall of Fame so as it stands the Hall of Fame on that has 150/151 pokemon.

I know its a stupid opinion, but I think they should just make a pokemon minigame collection like in 1-2 and sell it. I would honestly play the minigames moreso then the main entries or stadium series. I think they're secretly afraid those minigames would outlast their mainline entries and thats why they don't do it but thats my extreme bias because i love em XD
