Pokemon Theory - Giratina Is NOT The Devil

Pokemon Hey there fam! today I try to disprove the famous theory that Giratina is the rather. I really believe there is a big miss understanding.

The lake guardians are the same. If you look into Uxie's eyes you loose your memory, if you hurt Azelf you loose all to your willpower, if you touch Misprit you loose all your emotions (last one I'm not 100% sure, but it feels close to the lore). So to protect others Uxie keeps it's eyes closed, Azelf makes itself intangible, and Misprit stays invisible so no one can approach it. All legendary Pokémon understand the power they hold and do their best to avoid harming others.

There are other misunderstood legendary Pokemon as well. An example of that is Zygarde, the map even says that Zygarde is a monster in the cave he's found in, what Zygarde is really doing is watching the ecosystem carefully to make sure no one does anything damaging to it, it's just like saying that rain is bad for bringing lightning, but just like rain, Zygarde is only doing good for the ecosystem.

I think you're completely right about this Ovi. Giratina is just a poor, misunderstood creature trying to protect the world from his own powers. Then Cyrus just had to be an ass-hat and bring about the end of the world. With the rulers of time and space helpless, Giratina had no choice but to bare his fangs and stop Cyrus. Now, everyone thinks he's evil, but he really saved both worlds from destruction. Praise Giratina, saviour of worlds!

***** The black hole was a portal to the Distortion World and it was opened by Giratina because he was trying to stop Cyrus from destroying both worlds. It can even be seen in the game, the portal only opens after the lake trio fail to bring Dialga and Palkia under control, and when Giratina makes an entrance, his only target is Cyrus. If Giratina was the evil one, surely he would've attacked everyone on the mountain, he has the power. But no, he only wanted Cyrus. Even then, he didn't harm him physically so I honestly don't see Giratina as being evil.

My theory about Giratina is that it is kind of like the Prometheus of Pokemon. Giratina created the Distortion World of antimatter to balance out our world. Arceus was mad because Giratina "defied" him by creating a world of its own and attacked him. Being a ghost-type, Giratina couldn't use it's signature abilities against Arceus. They say history is written by the victors, so when Arceus defeated Giratina, Arceus played innocent and humans believed it, creating the legends of the "Renegade" dragon known for its violence.

Only if you know nothing lol. It was vacuous and plainly sentimental. Cute, for certain, but the person who made this video has a very limited view of what the Devil actually is, or the fact that it too operates based on rules and does not “hate mankind” or simply create chaos for the fun of it (that’s more thoughtforms gone awry/low-level negative spirits, not Lucifer or even most demons.) And of course Giratina isn’t evil - no one ever argued that it was. The people of Sinnoh fear it for the same reason Abrahamists fear the Devil - they fear what they don’t understand, and the occult aspects of life, which nonetheless exist all around us. There are entities around us as we speak, in the 4D/Astral Realm, which is very clearly what the Distortion World is in a metaphysical sense. And one can’t look to it in a scientific sense because there is nothing scientific about Sinnoh’s storyline - Hell, the only true scientist character we get is a charlatan who wants to make money and steal people’s work, and Cyrus, albeit scientifically-minded, is in the end just a poor occultist who got in over his head summoning powers he couldn’t control or respect/understand, and thus he was shown what happens to people who push those boundaries without knowledge (and anyone with knowledge would never try to do what Cyrus did, lol.) So yes, Giratina is Lucifer. He was /banished/ to the Distortion World, and it can’t really travel at will (not unless you catch it lol.) There is a reason it has been mostly erased from Sinnoh’s legends and why it is not revered, in a region that honours its legends and tries to preserve its history as much as it can (I think the one region that might rival them in terms of respect for the old ways is Johto.) So, /something/ happened in primeval times for Giratina to be wiped away from public consciousness to the extent even Cyrus and Cynthia don’t know much of anything about it. It happened for a reason, and Giratina did not “choose” to stay in the DW, it was banished as a renegade. However, it now knows its place and serves within the harmony of the world, as its mirror and dual opposite, so it knows better than to surface whenever it pleases. There have also been many times before and since that the world has been in literal peril, and Giratina made zero appearances to intervene. For that matter, neither did Arceus. Giratina isn’t a guardian to this world so much as a /gatekeeper/ to its dimension. It is aware of the balance that must exist, and of the fact that things from here don’t belong there and vice versa. Cyrus tried to upset that balance, and thus Giratina played its natural role and interferes with those plans. However, if that were enough, why not just take Cyrus and go? Why must we chase after it and defeat Cyrus, etc? Well, the reason is because we must understand its own position, and Cyrus himself must consciously come to terms with the fact these things cannot, should not, and will not be moved, especially not by someone like him. Subconsciously, I believe Cyrus was the one to summon Giratina, as these things do happen when one’s subconscious is not under control - subconsciously, Cyrus did not want to create a new world, and thus, Giratina appeared to stop him, when normally it does not interfere even when the sky is literally falling (R/S/E), or when someone’s literally trying to take over the world and is not afraid to kill to get his goal (Ghetsis), or literally tries to kill off most of the world except for rich people and their Pokémon (Lysandre, who is basically a bootleg Cyrus without the interesting personality and lovableness tbh.) So, yeah, Giratina acts very much like a force of nature, but does not Satan also? Everyone and everything has its role, and this applies to Satan/Lucifer/etc. also. The fact Giratina is a snake-like /ghost dragon/ that is a /renegade/ also answers the question as far as what this thing is supposed to represent. So, as big of a fan as I am of your videos, this was not in any way deep at all. It was merely sentimental nonsense, and the OP did not even attempt to look at myths of Lucifer to make his analysis of whether Giratina fits the role or not (spoiler: yes, it does.)

I actually have another side of this theory. Everyone knows about how the creature whom created the world did so with its thousand arms, right? Giratina was also banished by Arceus, correct? Giratina better fits the description of the thousand arms. Giratina also CREATED the Reverse World, so if all of its stories were banished, you never get a description correct? What if 'Arceus' was a pokemon 'Giratina' created who then overthrew it and then took its name? That would also explain why it appears as though 'arceus' has armor that giratina gave to it, dialga, and palkia. I dunno, just a theory. It also explains why 'Giratina' is the one who protects the world.

Hey Ovi, this can be the storyline for gen 4 remakes ! My storyline goes like this : In a parellel universe in which mega evolution is present, Cyrus was sucessful to make a new world ( from the things that happened in Pokemon Platinum ) as giratina didn't come to save the real world. But after these events happen, Giratina feels guilty and opens a way for people to live in the distortion world ( as he feels that people are safe there ) and you have to defeat all the gyms and the elite 4 in the distortion world! After this,You ( the protagonist ) have to save dialga and palkia and the lake guardians from Cyrus and his team Galactic in his new world where Cyrus unlocks the true powers of dialga and palkia and the achieve primal reversion. You are unable to defeat them even with the help of Giratina and Cynthia. And so to save Dialga and Palkia, you have to wake up arceus from his eternal slumber and make him realize that giratina is a Devil and ask him for help ! Now arceus is ready to help and now it can mega evolve ( or a new concept if they introduce one ). After defeating cyrus and primal dialga and palkia, you save the real world and the lake guardians return to there lakes. Please like if you think this may be possible.

I have another theory: Giratina was made because Arceus made Palkia and Dialga, this makes sense because Palkia and Dialga is made out of matter and Giratina is bigger than both of them (antimatter was made because matter was made). this also provides an explanation for his two separate forms, when in the distortion world he is in his natural origin form, his 'dark matter form' you could say, but when he appears in the regular world he takes the altered form, a 'non-dark matter form' if you like, that allows him to be there without destroying everything by accident. his orb may also be a way of containing his dark matter so that he can take his true form without causing mass destruction as well, perhaps the orb is a link to the distortion world that allows him to syphon his destructive dark matter to that world. A think that you should have paid attention to regarding Giratina's intervention when Cyrus succsfully summoned Dialga and Palkia, is that Giratina did not just stop Cyrus's plans by banishing Dialga and Palkia, BUT ALSO created an interdimensional portal at the top of spear pillar that also acted as a black hole. The reason why you went down that black hole with Cynthia was to actually stop a second threat: Giratina dragging the world into distortion world. Another proof of this is that the lake trio went after Giratina, possibly in order to stop, or more correctly, calm it down in the same manner they would stop Dialga or Palkia individually. But it seems that due to the nature of the distortion world, Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf were trapped by the disorderly order of that world, hence the reason why you had to free them in order to proceed further into the distortion world. So now another question occurs: how and why did Giratina intervene? Let's see the first. How. Giratina is part of a legendary trinity that resembles three aspects of the world that are intertwined with each other. Time and Space are actually one thing, Spacetime. Spacetime is the matter and the various states that it undergoes/has undergone/will undergo during it's existence. Antimatter is exactly the opposite, not in a conceptual sense but rather in a matching sense. Like a mirror image. An electron moves clockwise and has negative charge, while a positron (antimatter version of an electron) moves counterclockwise and has positive charge. When both Dialga and Palkia were summoned in spear pillar (unlike in Diamond and Pearl, when only one of these two were summoned), the two basic existantial substances of the universe were essentially both present in the same state of existence, and in the same place. This is exactly what allowed Giratina to "invade" our world. Only one thing was missing from the trinity. A trinity that was consisted of two halves of a whole, and the full total opposite of the whole. It was like a form casting its shadow when exposed to light, or rather the cause and effect of an action. If the balanced state of the world was nothingness(zero) and Dialga and Palkia were the existence (plus), then Giratina would be the natural response of reverting back into nothing (minus)...or perhaps something that wasn't nothing, but also wasn't anything of creation...anti creation. But the biggest mystery here is how the hell did I actually get all the inspiration to write all of these. My hand has started hurting , so I will finally just shut up XD

There is one big problem with all the "giratina is the devil" theory and that is the HGSS event. In this particular event the player can chose a Pokémon (out of Dialga, Palkia and Giratina) and Arceus will create the one the player has chosen. This proves that Arceus has the full control over the three legendarys, seeing how it can create them out of nothing. Also if Giratina is the devil why would the god of the Pokémon world create its biggest enemy? Giratina even holds the Grievous-Orb, which gives it even more power. Also in the Anime (which is non canon to the games I know) it is shown that Palkia and Dialga have their own dimensions too, which they have full control of. And also why would Giratina try to help Dialga and Palkia in Platinum if it's the devil? They don't fulfill any purpose for the distortion world. The point of antimatter is to keep things in balance, the universe can't exist without antimatter since things would go out of order, it can't exist without time since then there would be no progression and it can't exist without space since then there would be just a big void of nothing. case closed

What I believe is the actual story is that Giratina is not actually the ruler of antimatter but the god of dimensions. This ties along with Dialga being time and palkia being space. It is my belief that another being was created to counter arceus and that arceus in normal matter and the other being is anti matter. The being corrupted Giratina because it could travel through both the dimensions of matter and antimatter. Ik this because in the movie Giratina and the sky warrior, Giratina when passing through the two realms turned purple and changed forms. I believe that it changes forms because if normal matter interacts with antimatter they counteract each other. Anyway, I think it would be interesting if in the new diamond and pearl remakes they have it so the other being is trying to come into our world and if it does, it will destroy the entire universe on both sides. I personally think it is an interesting concept and I think about it a lot.

But here's the thing, Arceus, being an omniscient creator deity, would definitely have a good reason to banish Giratina. Even if Giratina appeared unintentionally, I feel like being banished would require Giratina directly disobeying Arceus's orders. But the interesting thing is that Cynthia says that the Distortion World is basically a counterbalance to the normal world, keeping it in existence. I have a feeling that Arceus made the Distortion world to keep the universe in balance, then banishing Giratina was killing two birds with one stone (Banish him and give the Distortion World a leader) Also, there is a trope that anthropologists have found across world mythologies, that being of a Sky God defeating a Chaos Serpent. Trey the Explainer made a great video about the Leviathan where he goes into this trope. I think that Arceus and Giratina's relationship was designed to fit in line with it.

I always thought that giratina represented gravity, like a black hole, in the distortion world it exists outside time and space, plus the fact that the distortion world completely disobeys the laws of gravity. Does anyone else agree with me?

Or Giratina represents Gravity, otherwise every time Giratina would enter the Pokemonworld it would cancel itself and the air around it out. Giratina representing Gravity makes more sense in the destortion world because duh gravity manipulation and so

+Ovi ACTUALLY in pokemon diamond there is a lake in which u find Cynthia that has an infinite maze in front of it. The route after Veilstone city. The trees part and you can travel to the lake. I got lucky and found the right way through the maze and Giratina was there in the other form that isn't origin. Sadly, I used my master ball on Dialga because I was a noob then when I found Giratina. NOTE: Use a pokeball, YES a pokeball on Dialga.Also this can only be done after proved worthy/ beating the elite four.

The resulting story was that Giratina was banished for causing destruction and trouble. The devil has the same resulting story. Similar to the devil in some iterations being a necessary part of the creation in which cannot be completely removed. Giratina seems to have been unjustly banished however you can't really know whether the devil was banished for similar reasons. This isn't necessarily meant to defend the devil or anything but Giratina has the same legacy and it was likely on purpose by the writers even if Giratina isn't truly evil. Would be interesting to see whether Arceus still has a grudge on Giratina.

Yeah, this makes lots of sense. Giratina is SO COOL. I hold quite a bit of pity for this Pokémon and I hope we get to see it again in the rumored Remake of Gen 4.

Personally, I'd like to think that the distortion world was one of two things: Arceus' first attempt at making the universe or it's attempt at trying to recreate that. On an unrelated note, I love Giratina SO much! If Sun and Moon had a similar mechanic to the dream pokemon in ORAS, then keep Dialga and Palkia. I want Giratina WITHOUT having to transfer my gen 4 Giratina.

I’m actually creating a DND campaign based on Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and in that world Giratina is worshipped as the goddess of antimatter and guardian of the Distortion World. I’m still trying to get all the details of the mythology worked out but how you described her is basically what she is, a selfless goddess willing to give up her own life and happiness to protect a world that practically disowned her. Honestly, Giratina can't really be Anti-Matter. If he were, then he and the Distortion Realm would explode every time they came into contact with the Pokémon World. He probably is, however, the Pokémon of Gravity, as it allows Space and Time to distort.

I agree with almost everything. The only thing that seems to be contradicted is your thoughts on how Giratina came to be. In the Gen 2 remakes, a player who had arceus could activate an event where Arceus creates one of Palkia, Dialga, or Giratina. You can decide whether to consider this canon or not because it was a wifi related event, but it does seem to lead to the conclusion that Giratina's creation was intentional.
