It's a very empty game. It's really unpolished but the foundation is phenomenal. Once they improve the pal ai, fix bugs, and make the multi-player work better, I think it will be incredible. It's kind of funny because it really doesn't feel like the game has a single original idea or mechanic, but the elements of other games the developers chose to rip off and merge together work so well together and are executed so naturally that it feels like the way these games always should have been.

In terms of genres, Palworld could not be any farther from Pokemon than it is right now. The only semblance the two games have with one another is the ability to capture creatures. The combat system is extremely rudimentary, especially that the Pokemon serve little more than MMO Pets/Minecraft wolves and are pretty much solely autonomous fighting machines meant to aid you in combat rather than being pets you command and control. The base building system is not as in depth nor as complex as other survival games, even for being in early access. There are some mechanics blatantly ripped off from other games as well, not that this is a problem. This game is little more than ARK with pokemon creatures, to call it pokemon with guns is extremely misleading and disingenuous to the nature of what the game truly is. Lastly don’t get me started with the devs, who have a history of releasing games in half-baked states only to basically abandon their projects some time down the line. What makes you think this game is different? Its a game with imho a very unimpressive gimmick that has taken the world by storm because Pokemon and the creature collecting genre is one that is highly coveted and enjoyed by gamers everywhere.

Yeah I agree. Also, I think game is experiencing a dark souls moment where everyone is comparing it to pokemon when it only has one thing in common ie catching monsters. Pokemon is a collectors Sim with a strategy game on the side. This just seems like a monster hunter that let's you keep the ratholos

Yeah, the games couldn't be more different from each other. It's comparing apples to oranges. I get the complaints about the performance issues with Pokémon, but most people just don't care if they're wrong about the gameplay and features. People will gladly say that the games stopped being innovative 6 years ago when they know that's not true, as long as they're warmly welcomed on the hate bandwagon.

They halted development on Craftopia temporarily to develop this game. Last month they released a roadmap for Craftopia and made it clear the game isn't dead.

They have had over 3 years since the release of Craftopia, and put out a roadmap after they went off and did another whole unfinished game... Not the kind of studio i'm going to spend my money supporting, but i'm not knocking anyone else for buying a game they want to try.

It's not a question of effort, but of time. Game Freak's development cycles these days are insanely short. Had Palworld released in 2022 as originally intended, it wouldn't be anywhere near as functional as it is now.
