The one thing that REALLY gripped me in this game, and then completely let me down, was AZ. There's this like 9ft tall GIANT of a HOMELESS BUM who likes FAIRIES. 3000 YEARS AGO, was a KING. He tried to NECROMANCY HIS POKEMON, and when he THOUGHT it didn't work he OBLITERATED EVERYTHING HE HAD EVER KNOWN OR LOVED. But it did work. When she woke up she was so disgusted by how violently he had lashed out in grief that she ran away from him. He has been chasing after her ever since, both of them cursed with immortality. So that's fucking rad, right? I'm not imagining how RAD that is??? Old-man-king-hobo-giant-flower-dude. Sleeps on park benches and is very sad and yet still quite regal. Dirty boy likes flowers. What a novel concept for a pokemon character! Adding some poke-magic to the humans! He was mysterious and strange in the glimpses you got of him, and then there was that cool slideshow with sad music - lovely. This guy is going to play a major role in the story, right? Maybe as a figurehead of the BRAND NEW fairy type? Maybe he will be a significant end-game element? Say some wise words? He should know A LOT about history - if he were alive in our world he was born 1000 years before JESUS supposedly lived - so he could say some cool stuff. Or maybe not. Maybe he is more the "some things are better left in the past." type. In any case he seems perfect material for a fan favourite - maybe even a sad movie. He doesn't do shit all And his Floette just comes back to him at the end. Why? " He has learned to love battling pokemon again"? "He finally got rid of his last tie to his guilt - the key"? If the little shits gonna torture him for so long only to come back to such flimsy bullshit it makes me want to swat her out of the air. Tiny twat. I still love him. I just wish X/Y had a better story that could have utilized him more.

On the other hand, Dark/Electric has 4 weaknesses, 5 resistances, and 1 immunity (just about balances out, but as an offensive Pokemon its defensive typing is not as important anyway), gives it a good secondary STAB that can at least _hit_ Ground types (Dark+Electric STAB is also only resisted by 24 Pokemon total, most of which are not hugely relevant/currently existent rip), and Dark type gives it immunity to Prankster status. Plus, a Mega evolution gives it a net 100 BST boost which could easily overcompensate for any detriments of the type/ability changes, even if that were the case. And even when ash Greninja was put in sun and moon, you didn’t actually need friendship with it to use the ability. I love XY, but they could definitively have been quite better. I'd have loved to have some things, but I think the best way to pull it is with a list: -Exp. Share could have been "broken" at first by only giving experience to the last member of the party and then the professor or someone "fixes" it in the postgame or before the E4. -Serena/Calem becomes your serious rival and don't "ask" you for battles, they simply challenge you unwarned like Silver and Blue did. The other three are still your "friends" and challenge you to some battles here and there, but they also have other functioons: Tierno checks your Super Training skills and gives you new rewards or levels, and in postgame he becomes a move tutor; Shauna checks your Amie care and gives you more accesories and higher level minigames, and in postgame she increases your Pokemon's happiness and affection; and Trevor gives you Pokedex reviews. He offers you rare TMs or items by completing a certain amount of pages, and in postgame he talks you about swarms or increases chances of finding hidden ability Pokemon in the wild. -The Kanto starter is a postgame exclusive after fighting the professor; this way, they do an actual nostalgic easter egg and your new starter feels like a reward and not a free boost. Mega Charizard X gets replaced with Mega Flygon. -You get to use Mega Lucario, but only once; it then can be rematched in the postgame in order to obtain its Mega Stone. -More trainers get access to Mega Evolution like Ace Trainers, Veterans, every Elite 4 member, and Gym Leaders on their rematches; Lysandre on his final battle uses a machine that forces his entire team to Mega Evolve. -Southern Kalos features an actual Safari Zone. -Unova Musketeers become Kalos' trio (it makes more sense; besides, they already have the genies) OPTIONAL, but very appreciated: -The Z update gives you access to a new mini region in Southern Kalos where you can catch more Pokemon (those which are exclusive to Mirage Islands in ORAS), contests, some secret bases, and compatibility with ORAS Mega Stones. Tierno becomes your Secret Base rival, Shauna your contest rival, and Trevor helps you find new Mega Stones. -There's a new episode like Looker's where you have to stop Team Flare from obtaining the second Zygarde and fusing it with the other one. -There's a new Battle Factory clone, Amie minigame, and Super Training set of levels if you want. I feel those changes would make XY pretty amazing games. There would still be some flaws like the pacing after the 3rd gym and how AZ was used, but the games overall would feel way more complete and interesting.

I respect a lot of your points here and with the sun and moon video, but one thing did catch me off guard. You said that you liked Team Flare more than any other team because (in your correction) the world doesn't treat them as a real threat and they aren't big on reconstructing or just straight up destroying the world. I have to strongly disagree on you there, due to Lysandre (The leader of Team Flare) quite literally saying his goal was to "Destroy this ugly world and build a new beautiful one" (paraphrasing) and waking up Xerneas/Yveltal for that exact purpose and his team just going along with those goals, or just being left in the dark about them like team Galactic grunts. You also said that you disliked Team Skull of Alola because they were just goofy, but they were the legitmate "team" that everyone in the setting of Alola just didn't take seriously at all, which explains their charm. It's of course alright to like Team Flare even though i'll never understand it, but I just had to point out a bit of the contradictions for your reasons. There was another point about Sun and Moon not giving more character customization options that I also had to mildly disagree with, as not only could I finally be a character with the same skin tone as my own (dark brown) but it also gave way to special type of ways you could throw your pokeball in the beginning of a battle, along with actually just having more clothing options (ridiculously more with females) also HAIRSTYLES! Of course I only point them out to further discussion, not just to be "that guy"... wow that really sounds like something that "that guy" would say lol.

Especially sinnoh, every single route and place in sinnoh feels they are from the same region, meanwhile being really memorable. Even to the music they all sound very diferent while having the same feel and instruments in all. The places all seem you know kidna cold, european region. Even Sunyshore which is like on the ocean and its the warmest city in the game feels like it wouldnt be something as tropical as alola. Sinnoh is a mountainous, cold, and very old region, and every place feels like that even when having unique things that make them stand out. Snowpoint and hearthome give off the same vibe while still being unique, one being a solitary, snowy place in the edge of the world, while the other a heartwarming city that is the center and heart of sinnoh, but they both still feel sinnoh. Plus the music, omg the music, you can tell which song is which and from what place it is from, but you can still hear a piano medley of sinnoh songs and they blend so well together that they feel like just one long song

X and Y are not easy BECAUSE of the Exp Share, that's such a surface level analysis it's unbelievable. The game is easy because the levels of enemy trainers are too low and the elite 4 don't even have full teams of 6. Having the exp share makes it so much more satisfying to plan out a team and get access to some cool moves because your levels will be higher, instead of not being able to access the full potential of some of your pokemon before the champion battle because it doesn't have 4 half decent moves. When I got back into pokemon in my late teens (I hadn't played since red about 15 years before) I played Soul Silver first, arguably the best game in the franchise and loved it, then I played Y and I really enjoyed it until I got to the E4 when I was disapointed by the lack of full teams. I always had a soft spot for XY. I had gotten rid of my DS in gen 4, so it had been a while since I had a system that could actually play a new Pokemon game. I did play BW/BW2 on an emulator, but my computer was really old and weak, so it wasn't exactly a great experience, and any multiplayer features were impossible. While I never lost my love for Pokemon, my interest was definitely waning a bit during that time. When I played through the game, I thought it was pretty decent. Kalos was an okay region, the huge dex ensured there was an unusual amount of variety throughout the game (much better than every trainer in the beginning having the same regional rodent), and the story, while bad, had some interesting things going for it and was relatively unintrusive compared to SuMo. But most importantly, it made raising competitive Pokemon so much easier and more accessible, and the PSS was amazing. Getting into online battles not only rekindled my love of the franchise, but made it stronger than ever before. I spent hundreds of hours of breeding and raising Pokemon and battling random passerby. Unfortunately, I hated the online features of gen 7 and 8, so my love of online battling died after 6. There is something in this video I don't agree with, though. First off, I liked Mega Evolution. I really liked it. What I disagree with is holding Mega Evolution against gen 6 for "what it represents", that being single-gen gimmicks that aren't continued later. I don't think that's fair. I think that should be held against those later gens that didn't continue pushing that feature forward. It's not XY's fault that GF dropped Megas for Z-Moves in the next gen. At least gen 7 still allowed Megas to exist. It's definitely not XY's fault that gen 8 dropped the mechanic completely. I consider that a flaw of gens 7 and 8, not 6. Also, fuck Z-Moves and Dynamax, I hate them. Megas were awesome, Z-Moves and Dynamax suck. tl;dr: I have a bias towards Gen 6, and Megas being a one-gen gimmick should be held against the gens that didn't continue to support it, not the gen that started it.

I agree with you on the mega pokemon but, dynamax pokemon are better on a gameplay mechanic side because it makes you think when to use it instead of just sending it in on the first turn and just sweep. I can't fully put my finger on the difference, but one issue that turns me away from Dynamax is that it hijacks your moves and turns them all into Z-Moves, which I hated. Also, I know a lot of people didn't like how centralizing Megas were, but personally, I enjoyed picking a Mega and building my team around them. I always loved the exp share. It felt like a natural progression in the series. Unfortunately, almost no one realized the potential for playing in a new way. The way I saw it: Gen 1: I leveled only my starter really high, while all other pokes were mid/low level. In hindsight I hated playing that way. But back in the day training all 6 evenly was soo difficult. Next Gens: I trained all of my 6 main party pokes evenly! In hindsight I hated how if I fell in love with 3-4 new pokemon (besides the 6 I trained), adding them to my party and training them was soo difficult. Gen 6 and above: I trained all of my 6 pokes. When one of them started being very high level, I put them in the box and pulled out a new fave pokemon I met in the wild. In the end I ended up with a team of like 15-20 pokemon properly raised! That way, I could choose my fave 6 for the Pokemon League. I love being finally able to incorporate new pokes besides my 6 main without having to grind a ton. Unfortunately, everyone stuck to only 6 pokes, and thus the game was too easy, just like Gen 1 was easy when you only raised one pokemon to very high levels.

I feel that the disconnect with Kalos’s locations may also be due to the removal of seasons which made areas feel static and inconsistent as you say when put next together like the first couple of routes has a spring like aesthetic, the city with the fairy gym and the routes after has an autumn look for some reason and the area around the 8th gym is straight up winter like the fuck (its even more jarring when going backwards from say snowbell to lavare city. I feel that XYs location would of benefited more from keeping the season mechanic that Black and White introduced as it would of helped make the locations feel consistent but also retain the locals identity and even add more interesting visuals when revisiting previous locations in different seasons in 3D. Also I do like the attempt of balancing the type chart though it would of been nice if Ice got some kind of defensive buff (like seriously ice is long overdue for a buff).

X and Y was my first Pokémon game. Yes, I'm very late to the franchise. However, I really, REALLY enjoyed this game as a kid. Since Pokemon was new to me, everything was so cool and amazing, the Kanto starters being handed to you on a silver platter was fine by me because I never had the chance to get them in earlier games. The 3D sprites blew me away, as I wasn't aware of the charm that the earlier designs had in other pkmn games. The Super Training (EV training) also felt so rewarding. Grinding that football game out meant that once you attained the desired EVs, it felt so rewarding, knowing that you had a pokemon that was the cream of the crop and would beat any other versions of itself. The amount of tactics and strategy that EV training made was mind blowing to me at the time. By acknowledging the competitive community (unlike another safe, above average nintendo game I know about), players can now EV train and know for sure whether or not they're making progress, and don't have to look up a guide to know how to do it. My friends didn't EV train so I always used pokemon on their level (one of my friends used a moltres with 4 fire moves lol) Although there is very little to do in post-game, the battle maison, PSS and the GTS kept me playing. Overall, I really appreciate this reevaluated look on X and Y as I think it had a lot to offer, even now that I am fully aware of the entire series.

Another great video! Legit I almost forgot to comment because I was about to start watching the BW episode. I’ve never played XY, but found it interesting that it seemed like the game sped up after gym 3, and I wonder if it’s because they felt rushed in making it? And also just wanted to say I find a lot of your outtakes really funny, like the “Am I about to battle lilo and stitch” part was hilarious, keep up the good work your content is fire

After getting all nostalgic i started replaying every Pokemon Game from Gen 1 to Gen 6 and what I found is that all of them are rather easy. What people tend to negelect is that we are adults now and we therefore don't play like children anymore. When i frist started playing pokemon I palyed like a complete noob, which was a given since I was like 7 or 8 years old. For example, I used hydro pump and hyper beam on Garados and pretty much used hyper beam on every single pokemon since I had no idea about the special and attack split (I generally had no idead what the Stats ment xD). I didn't start bothering to learn the game mechanics before Gen 4, that's when I started playing Pokemon efficently, like caring about stats as well as the special and physical split of moves and I started using satus moves like sword dance, which suddenly made everything become very easy. As and adult you understand very well which Pokemon teams are best for which specific game and know very well which pokemon should be used with which ability and with which move and which hold item. Even as a young teenager i still didn't understand the correlation between abilities, moves and items. I for example used leftovers on Swellow instead of giving him a toxic or flame orb to activate his guts ability since i thought it didn't matter (and overestimating his defensive stats at the same time). You think i ever thought of using facade on it? No, Double Edge was cooler. Even when replaying Gen 2 a couple of month ago I found it way too easy since I knew how to handle it. Whitney with Miltank a Problem? No, just trade for the in-game machomp and catch yourself a Geodude and you are in for a rather easy win. Even without and exp share i found myself currently overleveld (without grinding) in Gen 1 since I never switched party memebers and only caught Pokemon I was going to use throughout the game (only certain Pokemon like mankey were used for certain gyms but dropped after I didn't need them anymore). This led to my Pokemon being overleveld at a certain point due to not having a full party before the 6th Gym. To conlude: If you want a Game for children to be difficult you will have to play like a child. That's exactly why people started doing Nuzlocke Challenges, to make a easy game more difficult. As I long ago stopped caring about the main story (let's be honest, it's very repetitiv) I only really cared about the gameplay and game mechanics as well as the quests. If we consider filling the Pokedex for the shiny charm, beating gyms and The Elite 4 as well as the post game contend I think X and Y did fairly well. What sets it apart from the preceeding generations were it's 3D graphics, which I found astounding at that time. My dream of being able to play a 3D Pokemon game with great animations finally came true which is the main reason i love X and Y. I also liked the exp. share which helped me fill the Dex. I overall liked X and Y as much as the previous generations but it's true that it got overshadowed by Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby (my up to date most favourite Pokemon games). But it overall was very great, I still love playing them over and over again. Sorry for the long post.

Man, your comment is so true! Very accurate! Add to you perfect scanning of the question the fact that what helps to make Pokémon games easy is the system battle in shift mode! When you are allowed change Pokémon every time you defeat the one of opponent, the game turns a piece of cake! Well, the only thing I disagree with you is that I still believe that XY is a better game than ORAS!
@pandaman13314 жыл бұрын
@@pedromonteiro2248 I have to admit that I prefer ORAS over XY out of nostalgia because Ruby was the first ever Pokemon game I played on a console. You are certainly spot on with the shifting system, it makes the game way too easy. That's presicely why I mostly play Pokemon hacks or do challenges, they are to some degree challenging. Try a monotype challenge or a nuzlocke challenge. Escpacially nuzlockes can fuck you up mentally, I stopped mine halfway after all of my favorite Pokes died :( Another classic way of making it harder is to not switch Pokemon, always battle with your current one until it faints. Still to easy? Well how about not using any medicine items in battle? I even stopped using full Pokemon teams, I usally have 3 main fighers and the rest are just HM Slaves. Still to easy? How about a randomizer nuzlocke? There are many ways to make Pokemon more challenging but if you play it the regular way than it won't matter which Gen you play, as an adult they will all be too easy

I just realized in this video parts of the inner feather details on Fletchinder's model clip into the main body. I'd also like to add something about the 3d models. Game freak has used the exact same models for the following: X Y Omega Ruby Alpha Saphire Sun Moon Ultra Sun Ultra Moon Sword Shield It might have been fine for the first four games but no improvement [except a little increased shading details on a remote amount of the model textures in SwSh] have been made on the models.

I LOVE the Mega Evoloutions. It was introduced around the time when I got really interested in shiny pokemon and I made it my goal to get every single Pokemon who has a mega evoloution in its shiny form. That included playing older games and soft-resetting for Mewtwo, Rayquaza, Groudon and Kyogre. I eventually did get them all. AND THEN THEY PHASED OUT MEGA EVOLUTION. That's the one thing I can't forgive GF for lmfao Also, if Kalos is based off of France, instead of having a full on desert they should have put a sand dune by the ocean because Dune Du Pilat is a thing. Like, go through a forest type area and then on the other side is SSSAAANDDD

I have a strong opinion on the EXP Share but I’ve honestly not seen this view around the web much even though to me it feels so obvious. I DO strongly agree that XY were too easy, and the lack of challenge is a real problem. But I don’t think that’s the fault of the EXP Share. When I played through XY, I came to appreciate dragging around random Pokémon in my empty slots to even them up and evolve them without even using them directly, to the point where I ended up finishing the game with only four team members because I wanted to keep levelling up everything unevolved in my PC box. Levelling up all of my actual team members helped too, so the EXP Share was something I really appreciated. The problem was that it was optional, and the game’s level balance was built around not using the EXP Share, which was true for Sun/Moon too. This is why I’ve thought for a while that the EXP Share should NOT be optional, and instead, the game’s balance should be built around having it enabled. When Sword/Shield were revealed to be making the EXP Share mandatory, everyone kicked off, but I was chuffed. Apparently that game is still ridiculously easy, surprise surprise, but I hope we can get to a point where people don’t criticise the EXP Share itself, but instead criticise the games for not fully committing to their great concept. But anyway, cheers for giving XY a bit of praise, I really appreciate them for having easily the most varied Regional Dex for great team building options. XY hasn’t held up to the test of time that well, but it felt great at the time and I’d rather appreciate that. PPS I don’t really like Team Flare but your reasoning is precisely why I love The Deadly Six from Sonic Lost World, don’t @ me

ever since iv'e started noticing this large spike in easyness (if that is a word) I've limited myself to a max of 1-3 pokemon in my party from beginning to end in each new game, to up the challenge I crave.

"When I played through XY, I came to appreciate dragging around random Pokémon in my empty slots to even them up and evolve them without even using them directly." Yeah no. I don't see why a player should be rewarded by just dragging random Pokémon around without even using them. Why shouldn't you be challenged for evolving new mons. Being forced to actually use new mons in a battle makes it more enjoyable because you actually notice the mons strength , weaknesses, type advantage, move poll, etc. Dragging it around, evolving it without using it, and saying it was fun is the same to me as saying that getting shinies in Pokémon Lets Go is fun, its fun because its easy. You say the problem isn't the exp share, but it is, it absolutely is. You haven't explained why the new exp share should be used instead of the old system except that its convenient. There is no incentive of using other mons than your starter anymore, there is no point in learning to use new, weaker mons if your stronger mons can carry it to high level. If anything you demonstrated why the new EXP share made the games easier, despite the fact that you "enjoyed it". Ok, lets say a game is built around having it, you still haven't solved the problem of using weaker mons in an actual battle. If your stronger mons are defeated, your team will be able to beat the threat, even when you barely use them. The old system forced you to switch around because otherwise your other mons would be too weak. If one mon has the exp share, you would have had to use it in battle anyway to get double exp, and you start from an unreliable weak mon to a dependable strong mon, an experience you can't really have now because the game give an incentive for that. You CAN do it, but forcing yourself to do it vs having a system around it is not the same, just like forcing yourself to less than 6 mons because the game is too easy isn't the same as having an actual difficult game where you can use all 6 mons. You lack the new EXP share because of its "quality of life improvement" despite the fact that you don't even bond with new mons anymore, because there is no incentive to do it. I don't really care if you say that's not true. Because I don't see why a player should be able to evolve other mons "conveniently" aka easily. You can say its enjoyable, but that doesn't mean anything. Having evolved Pokémon in advance in the Battle Factory means I get to use strong mons without the hassle of growing them and catching them, but then you'd say "but they aren't yours" or "Pokémon is about catching and growing your own Pokémon" and then I'd say the new exp share doesn't give you any incentive to bond with your mon, because you don't even use them directly as you said. There would be no difference if they were in your PC.

the reason why I like Pokemon X&Y so much is not because of the gameplay, which was, like you said, pretty weak in comparison to previous generations, but because it's a really memorable and beautiful(?) game. The Kalos region might be my favourite Pokemon region to date, as it has a lot of beautiful and vast places to explore. Even after beating the Champ I enjoyed skating through the streets and alleys of Lumiose City, where I kept finding a lot of stuff I had previously missed. While, yes, Kalos doesn't make much sense geografically, it had really cool looking places in it and great soundtrack to make them really come to live. And like you said, the newly introduced Pokemon where few in number, but we're great design-wise and made sense for the region in a way. I don't know how to explain that, other than the Pokemon available in X&Y made sense for a region that's based on France and for the story that it introduced. I also really enjoyed the character costumization and the fact that the boutiques actually switched up their sortiment based on the day of the week, which made me revisit them often, so I could buy all their clothes. Mega-Evolutions and the fairy typing we're 2 of the best things X&Y introduced in my opinion. The fairy type became my favourite type, because of it's type advantages and weaknesses in battle and because there are a lot of really cool fairy type Pokemon, like Xerneas, which is my favourite legendary or Mimikyu, which is from Sun&Moon but still cool. The mega evolutions worked well for the gameplay, even though they gave you 2 great megas for free and early in the game. But they made battling more interesting for me and gave a new boost to Pokemon that needed one (and some that didn't). I think the reason why the mega evolution is barely ever talked about, is because it was a one-time event for the franchise. Sun&Moon was quick to abandon them and instead introduced something that was in no way adequate to the mega evolution. (On another note I really disliked Z-Moves bc they we're pretty useless and I never used them. Except for Mimikyus special move, just because it's called never-ending nightmare). In short X&Y did some things pretty well. It had a memorable region that felt whole in a way without making much sense. And the new mechanics it introduced added to the enjoyment of the game. But yes, X&Y suffer some losses, simply because they we're the easiest games so far.

There is the character customization, the music is great and there is lots of colour. The Pokemon although few are also great designwise. Also the region is including later games the most populous region of all, there is a sense of life to it. The plot or mechanics may not be the best, but it is has beauty all around. I played it as a little kid so i never got the difficulty problem. However the immersion and adventure in this beautiful world is something i'll always remember.

The world/geography consistency thing: Hoenn literally had a desert and a rainforest back to back... in the center of an island. Playing a video game like pokemon allows for creative license, hence why Unova is based on manhattan, but obviously WAYYY bigger, because it has multiple cities, snow in the north, tropics in the south, etc. Kalos also took 'France' and made their own thing with it, which I appreciated. And yes, Alola was generally consistent, with a few dry or cold areas, and so it felt kind of boring

Why would they let you catch a Riolu if they were going to drop a Lucario on you soon after anyway? It shits all over the effort you invested into raising that Riolu if you made the mistake of adding it to your team in the beginning.
