Personally I liked the original Colosseum more but that comes more from my love for the Wes' design and the nature of him not necessarily being a good guy. Not to mention the fact it was the first time a pokemon game felt challenging when I first played it as a kid

Loved colosseum and XD and they are still one of the best Pokémon games I’ve ever played (and I played them all). The limited number of Pokémon and every battle being a double battle made it more strategic. Also the whole concept of shadow Pokémon was just great. It’s so sad that mobile gacha games have shadow Pokémon while they probably won’t appear ever again in a console game. Masuda once revealed in an interview that there won’t be another colosseum game. Just sad but consistent with being far from what fans want.

I love both Colosseum and XD, but XD was a really big deal for my childhood. I was born and raised in New Orleans, so 2005 was a major year. I first saw the commercials for XD while out of state, with like 20 family members packed into a small house while evacuated for Hurricane Katrina. I was already a big fan of Colosseum, so I was hyped, even more when I saw the release date was the day before my birthday. That excitement got me through a really tough time, and getting the game on my birthday was when things started to finally feel normal again.

The battle animation are the cherry on top. Currently playing Gale of Darkness for the first time Bit of a slow start with all the Jovi and Chobin stuff but amazing so far I hope we get a 3rd game one day. Just so many new Pokemon would be awesome Saving anywhere was a much needed feature Mirror B's theme syncing up with his pose is top notch The Multiple Shadow Pokemon in a fight was a nice touch and adds some difficulty I love using Pokemon I'd normally never use

Colosseum and XD were excellent and helped make me a hardcore Pokemon fan. But speaking of hardcore fans... There's actually a romhack (technically an ISOhack) of XD Gale called XG: NeXt Gen. It improves EVERYTHING. It adds in so many things from later gens, like moves, items, abilities, the fairy type, the physical/special split, and even some regional variants of Pokemon! There's new trainers, new Pokemon teams, new Poke Spot Pokemon...you can even encounter legendaries! There may even be a patch in the future for scripted events and Mints. And if you thought XD was hard, XG is an entirely new difficulty altogether. I LOVE it.

This was my first pokemon game ever. I didn't play a Game Freak game until 2014 with Pokémon X. Trying to get through that Orre Colosseum was and still hell. It developed my hatred for Gardevoir. One dumb thing I've done was reset the whole game became Gardevoir used Dream Eater on my pokemon thinking that they weren't strong anymore. But mostly testing out different eevee evolutions. Eventually I'll come back to it

It’s not up to Nintendo, that’s the Pokémon company’s decision to do that. Whether to have a third game, remake, or a rerelease of the games since it’s a Pokémon spin off game. Yes Nintendo also makes up the Pokémon company as well but they don’t make every single decision that the pokemon company makes whether it be the anime, the pokemon spin off games, the movies, the mainline games as well as remakes, all of the Pokémon web series, the merchandise, the manga, and everything else.

As a kid I was super pumped for Battle Revolution as I thought with my silly child brain that it was the third game in the series. A sequel to XD. So I started playing it and it started with a battle and I figured "Okay it just opens with a battle" and I kept wondering when the game allowed me to roam around but ofcourse that never happened and I will never like Battle Revolution as a result because I'll always feel betrayed

I don't know why I never asked for Gale of Darkness as a kid. I was in high school, so maybe it was around the time I started to lose interest in Pokemon after finishing Leaf Green (I kinda took a break until Pokemon until after Platinum was released). But I loved Sapphire, Leaf Green, and Colosseum around that time, so I really can't imagine why I never played. Unfortunately, copies of the game are $160 minimum on eBay now, so I probably won't be buying it, at least not any time soon.

I'm happy to see more and more fans (re)discovering ColoXD over the last couple of years. I really feel like they flew under the radar of most fans back in the day, and many fans today were barely old enough to hold a controller when these were released (or didn't even exist yet). My favorite is definitely XD. I'm no fan of dark, edgy characters, so Wes sits with Silver near the bottom of my favorite Pokémon characters list (just above, admittedly, the useless and pointless XY friend team). On top of that, XD shows how much the region has impacted over the previous five years, and with the threat of Cipher hanging over everyone's heads, I actually feel like Michael has the more difficult fight to keep the peace that Wes won (especially with the added threat of the "Unpurifiable" XD-001, which Wes never had to face). Also, as you said, mechanically XD is the more comprehensive experience.

I can't really relate to the fatigue thing as the core games always added new content and mechanics but yeah Colosseum & XD Gale of Darkness are still among my favorite Gamecube games. And that's all i will say as asking me to rank them vs all Pokémon spin off games may result in a ranking that will have people wanna throw eggs and veggies at me. As for pitting them against the core games, i don't as they are spin off titles + they lose against the core games. At least for me. They are great Pokémon spin off games that should be added in the VC catalogue or get a remaster/remake treatment at least.

I grew up with Colosseum, for some reason never picked up XD. When I first played it in 2016, I was pretty blown away and regretful for not doing so sooner since it felt like an expansion on everything in its prequel. I've since played it several times over (mainly thanks to the "XG: neXt Gen" hack that adds modern mechanics, regional variants/forms and more), and honestly I much prefer Colosseum nowadays. Yes XD expands on Colosseum in basically every way, but imo this comes with a lot of detriment. The most glaring issue with XD to me is the reworking of the "shadow" type. Whether or not you find the shadow mechanic more interesting in XD, the way they "integrated" it into the type matchup system is just broken and sucks a lot of the balance and nuance out of the battle system. This change is further compounded by the fact that mid-late game many (if not most) notable trainers have multiple shadows on them. Catching in Colosseum was irritating enough, but the fact you have battles not only dragged out further by essentially having to win multiple slot machines, but also have a blatant type disadvantage at all times (using shadows is less incentivized in XD due to the purification chamber) makes most boss encounters feel significantly less intentional and strategic, and by extension rewarding.

That's a fair criticism, although if you as a player keep swapping out your team members and use the Shadow mons yourself, before purification, you can use the resistance of Shadow mons to thwart Cipher's constant use of them. That's how I always play.

Both Colosseum and Gale of darkness are underrated by most of the community, unless you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s and experienced these games first-hand. They were different, some people of the community didn't like that they were spin offs. But I LOVED these games!! Seeing your mons on the big screen (at the time) and having double battles really did kick start the competitive in my household as well amongst my friendship group. No longer was it just powering through with OP mons, that strategy and planning was key. Different story, different ideas, it was a great break from the gym grind at the time, way before Alola. I still own both original hard copies for my GameCube and do drag them out of the closet every now and then, they're a blast!! Id you haven't experienced them, I highly recommend it! I really liked Colosseum, but I haven't played XD yet. I do have it though. I just accidentally bought the French version. I couldn't really see the cover on the small picture. It is the PAL version though, so I can still play it in German. I just have a french manual and packaging. Oui, oui Baguette you know. The french title has the word Souffle in it. I think it was Pokemon XD Le Souffle de Tenebrae. No idea what that means, but hey, French. I hope I can play it one day. I have a Wit that can play this game. I jjst need a better controler.

I also got the Mystic Ticket to go to Navel Rock in my Emerald version to catch Ho-Oh an Lugia. Fun times.

I was spoiled by this game as a kid. I didn't even know colosseum existed until 2017 when I watched ChuggaConroy play it, and subsequently found a used copy at my local game store for about 40 bones. I like both for different reasons. I like Colosseum for its freshness, and XD for its polish. Where Colosseum took and made you feel awesome as you played it, its story was... meh? The twist ending didn't feel deserved and left me feeling like it was a little rushed. XD fixed this by at least setting up Mr. Verich as Master Greevil after you raid the key lair with Gonzap and Wakin. XD also is more mechanically fleshed out. Letting you save anywhere is such a relief! But, Colosseum has great character design. Both have amazing dialog, isn't that right matey?

I love Pokemon Colosseum and XD a lot. They gave the player such an unique experience! I think it's sad, that nowdays the Origin of Shadowpokemon is pretty much forgotten from newer Players thanks to Pokemon Go introducing them. But in PoGo they're made by Team Rocket without to acknowledge Team Cipher in any way. I think that's a huge missed opportunity and it makes me pretty sad

Colosseum is my favourite Pokémon game of all time so far, I never got round to properly playing gale of darkness when it came out as I was too disappointed that we went from a bamf of a character as Wes with his big ol' hover bike to Michael in his itty bitty hover scooter, but having watched lore videos on it the story is really good, I always hope to see some Orre region hints in games which mostly go unanswered but giving us an engine Pokémon that is basically Wes's bike engine makes me wonder, I love the idea of maybe going back to Orre in maybe a Unova game DLC and seeing Orre have wild Pokémon finally with it being terraformed and the Pokémon that would come to the feeding areas are perfect candidates for Orre regional forms imo

Been cool if saw Rui perhaps older. As a trainer with a Espeon and Umbreon. After winning she would casually ask about Wes or inquire about him. Passingly mentioning (hope) that she knows he will return to her, one day.
