I forgot to mention, I also have Johnathan Little's "Strategies for Beating Small Stakes Poker Cash Games" which is good for live low NL cash game players. For your mental game, "The Mental Game of Poker" is always recommended from what I hear.

There are several factors in poker secrets tips. One plan I found which succeeds in merging these is the Card Crusher Fixer (google it if you're interested) without a doubt the most useful plan that I have ever seen. look at all the unbelievable information .

Books I recommend for Live low stakes no limit holdem. 1, Professional no limit holdem by Matt Flynn, Sunny Mehta. 2. No Limit holdem theory and Practice by David Sklansky 3. Theory of Poker by David Sklansky Everything you need to beat low limits is contained in those books. The Harrington on cash games series is pretty good too. Mediocre books... Super System (NLHE section) by Doyle Brunson, Little Green Book by Phil Gordon, Live No limit cash games by Johnathon Little Lots of bad books out there so watch out.

I would recommend The Mental Game Of Poker by Jared Tendler and Treat Your Poker Like a Business by Dusty Schmidt. The latter book is a little dated in parts but it is interesting nonetheless and will be inspiring for aspiring grinders. Ace On The River by Barry Greenstein is a popular title that disappointed me and another book that I read but has now been eclipsed by Jared Tendler would be The Poker Mindset. If you like biographies, I would rate the biographies I have read in this order. Checkraising The Devil - Mike Matusow The Life and Times of a Poker Legend - Devilfish The Godfather of Poker - Doyle Brunson I'm just finishing up reading Life's a Gamble by Mike Sexton, which has been ok but nothing like as good as the books listed above. I also quite enjoyed the book by Victoria Coren but it wasn't hard to put down.

Thanks for the comments Reg. That's too bad you didn't like Mike Sexton's book. I have never heard of Matusow's book - I'll definitely have to check that out. I gave my dad Doyle Brunson's biography, The Godfather of Poker which he liked, so you might want to check out that book.

I really like Zen and the Art of Poker by Larry Phillips. It's a easy read and the principles are timeless for your mental game. Cheers!

It depends on how your going to learn better. I’d say use either video coaching or books and choose which based on which you think you’ll get the most out of

Hey, Great subject matter. Nice idea. I have a recommendation but it's not for beginners or the faint of heart! It's called 'How to be a poker player' by Haseeb Qureshi. I'm going to start reading it again soon because it's not something you can easily grasp with one reading. Not really a poker strategy book but more a poker philosophy book, how someone should think about and approach the game. I recommend it for advanced players only.

Good comment. I read about that book and it looks like a good read. I've browsed his website; very interesting fellow. Here's the link to the book for anyone wanting to check it out: haseebq.com/book/

Are online schools, like with Pokerstars, worth it relative to the books?
@MicroGrinderPokerSchool7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, specific training sites are such as mine (PokerSchool.Microgrinder.com) for beginners & microstakes players, RunItOnce.com for higher stakes, Doug Polk's training site for learning how to play balanced, etc. The same goes for some of the older books - older books that don't apply modern poker theory should be avoided.

MicroGrinder Poker School It seems a lot of training is geared toward no limit, as it's the most common, but reading around indicates it's best to not mix up the strategies yet. I was going to learn limit, read Sklansky and Miller, Lee Jones, etc., but I'm finding it hard to find limit games online (all the games in PokerStars.eu app seem to be no limit). I was thinking I should learn old school, via the books, and play what I can find, prior to watching no limit strategy videos. Just to keep them separate (since limit seems hugely under-represented) until I really learn one style. What do you think? The limit vs no limit discussion online is rather ambiguous: some note that the old greats all learned limit, yet others note that the game is now the minority and don't recommend it. If you ever get a chance, some pros and cons of those games would be good, and moving from one to the other. (Ordered Ken Warren, too.)

Yeah, Limit poker (especially online) is starting to disappear. I think it's the evolution of poker. My dad tells me stories of when he played Stud poker in the casinos back in the 70's. Then for quite some time Limit Holdem was the main game, both live and online. The popularity of No Limit sparked (full ring games) and limit started to disappear (you can still find them in live casinos) but not as much online. Then 6-max and fast-fold Zoom games took over and now dominate online. Now Omaha is making its move. I wouldn't recommend learning limit...just jump straight to no limit and learn with modern theory/strategy books and training videos. Old school strategy (such as Brunson's Super System or Hellmuth's Player Poker Like the Pros) will set you off in the wrong path imo because some of the older books aren't based on modern poker theory, statistics and mathematics. If you learn old school, you'll then have to re-learn and fix leaks learned from old school material. Also, lots of the "old greats" are no longer the best poker players - lots would have a hard time beating the mid to high stakes games online. Also, if you learn no limit and understand basic mathematics of the game, you can jump from no limit to limit because limit is really a game of pot odds and equity. Lastly, if you want to easily find games online, you should learn the most relevant and popular games - which isn't limit. Hope that helps!
