I prefer to reraise small over calling because I think many amateur players make more calling mistakes than betting mistakes. However I don't want him to fold all of his draws, so I don't want to raise huge.

Call. If he is running a bluff then let him put his neck in deeper. If he has JJ which is possible then a call minimises any damage later on. If he is on the Club draw then seeing the turn cheaply might also induce more bluffing/raising

I feel like pocket jacks could play this way. Check raise the flop, even tho on smaller side, then big bet turn, all in river. Thats about the only value hand that makes sense to me tho.

Would have been fun one if villain actually showed up with JJ which wouldn't be that bad line if you aim to make it three street play with flop x-r. But yeah wonder about calling 77 versus 120k 3bet pre. Obviously we cannot do that as purely or almost purely as set mine as implied odds are just too small.

Calling is fine against someone who will continue to overbluff big on future streets. I like a small 3-bet to 210,000, however, because the board is so wet. I think this is more likely to induce mistakes from most of his range rather than calling.

My $0.02: as players become more and more studied, it's harder to get an edge. If you pick non-standard raise sizes, they are suboptimal with respect to perfect play, but it is a bet. It is a bet that the efficiency given up by the betting player is less than the loss of efficiency by the player who now has to respond to the non-standard raise size. If you make a point of studying the ranges with which you can make a 10x raise size, you can reasonably assume your opponents will NOT have studied those. They will instead have studied more standard raise sizes, which forces them to make an adjustment they haven't studied for.

Probably just call. You have a blocker to the flush and it's unlikely that the BB's pre-flop 3-betting range includes many hands that are suited clubs.

I’ve always wondered about these little raises like this. First off it’s so hard to range them cause ive never once done it. Tends to be sometimes JJ+ AQ+ but mostly just taking betting lead with marginal hands. Second off there is a point to be made about them 1: taking the betting lead and 2: now narrowing your range heavily when you just call. Is there merit?

Sometimes when players "tell a story that doesn't make any sense" (taking an extremely weird line) I can't exactly tell if they are just bluffing with 95% random junk or if they have the ultimo mega nuts. Usually, I just go off player type in this situation. Any other tips?

The BB tried to represent at least AJ if not a set. So, there is a logic in his play. Put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself if you would raise 5x AJ or a pocket pair from BB preflop.

I would call and keep them in with their bluffs. Reraising here comes off as pretty nutted and they probably fold a lot of the hands we want value from if this player even has those hands in their range.

The min click click back can make a lot of splashy fishy players absolutely spazz out. Otherwise I’d mostly call his click back, not big raise it’s too strong vs a weak range. A side note. Skeleton in closet. The only strong hand in his range is jacks. Seen people make small squeezes with jacks cause they’re scared of bad flops in big pots. Absolute tiny part of his range though.

Call, You have a club so you have that flush blocker. The only things your are worried about is JJ and XcXc. I would call to keep them in the pot. I don't want to lose this guy to a raise. Generally I don't wan't to slow play a set but he is betting for me so I don't have to worry about a small pot, he's building it for me. I have position if something changes so whey upset the applecart and scare him away?

Yesterday, i was low stack with 15bb against this guy mid stack with 29bb he raises preflop 3× i call with 9/7 suited of hearts the flop: 2spades/7diamonds/Kflowers he checks i bet 3bb out of my 13bb remaining with my mid pair, he jams all in. i was so tempted to call, i even put him on A high, but i couldn't make the call. Guess what he had? A/9 , if i called, he would've lost turn and river, just loosing with A/9.

Ya weird bet sizing oop 2.5x.. I'm thinking he's on point with TT or 99, maybe an overpaid like QQ but he's playing weak and looks like it's not intentional. My guess is KJ or AJ top pair with a blocker but that's basically telling you he's more concerned about the flushdraw then a pair. He clearly isn't putting him on a pair yet alone a set. The near pot bet on the turn is just bad, like he's committed to bluffing to get a draw to fold..which is just bad. Call and take his money, give him the rope.

We think he has a thin value hand or a bluff. Which means he’s not going to call big bets, but he may *make* big bets. Let’s let him do that! Pot is 260k after his raise, and will be 300k if we call. He could make a 1x pot bluff for 300 more or a 2x pot shove bluff. A. CALL

Looking at this from the other perspective, how could the opponent have made this bluff work? If he had raised larger preflop, then decent cbet size and continued to triple barrel all in, James is still never folding a set right, especially when most of the draws miss? So is this just one of those cases where sometimes you try to bluff and run into a big hand, oh well unlucky? Or should he have not tried to bluff an EP raiser in the first place? Especially a world class pro 😂

it was a minraise from UTG. Minraise is a 100% guaranty call from BB at least - by pot odds. BB had A9s. He wanted to get rid of the other players but his hand was strong enough to play heads up. If there were two diamonds on board, it would have been a different story.

I do sometimes hear terms like "spaz," "spazzy" and "spaz out" in American films and telly. Perhaps it's not got the connotation that it does over here on the other side of the pond. The AK guy is a very young player who was if not a beginner but definitely no more than a recriational at that time and froze his account right after the win to find this money a better purpose than to play high stakes online. I have tried to explain him why AKos can't go all in preflo, limp-minraise best case scenario, from EP at the final table but he doesn't seem to understand why. He got into this tournament because he played another one earlier that week and won a ticket with some along with $100K for the 3rd place.
