It’s because it’s Esfandiari. They’ve played against each other for like 15 years now. Phil has seen Esfandiari do crazy stuff. He’s completely capable of doing this exact thing with 10 4 off or 7 2 to try and troll Phil on tv

NLH Lesson 1: When facing a big bet on the river, the first thing you must determine is which made hands would bet this way, but are WORSE than your hand. In this case, Phil's hand is so weak that there are none of those. So to call, Phil must know that AE is bluffing, which means Phil must know which cards he's bluffing with. So Phil must know that AE would play K9, K8, K7, T8, T7, 98, 97 of hearts this way, AND must also know that AE would do that often enough, relative to the times AE has Phil beaten.

@stpetepiper
@stpetepiper 5 күн бұрын
partly to look cool, partly because its a natural way to release some tension in this setting. You are sitting at a table for 3-12 hours a time mostly.... the only things allowed on the table are chips and cards.... and you aren't really allowed to mess with the cards, so it just becomes a thing you do to pass time and it just becomes habit to the majority of ppl who play alot. Its hard for most people to just sit completely still for long periods, especially when making decisions about large amounts of money.

Set of aces beats pretty much every other hand on the board, so using the word 'just' makes it sound a bit sarcastic.
