Pokerogue: Infinite Toucannon Attack, Eternatus Dies to 1 Move (Still works after 6/1 patch)

I found a Toucannon with Skill Link and happened upon an infinite..Woops
Worth noting, it hits 7 times in the first phase and 25 times in the second phase.

I think the way it works is that the Multi Lens makes offensive attacks hit twice (or more). However Beak Blast at first isn't offensive, it needs charging. So when it attempts to use the move again, it charges the move again. And doing this seems to not check how many times the move has been repeated.

The peculiar thing is that it says it hit twice on the second charge up, rather than on the attack. I think you're likely on to something.

I found something similar with my Black Kyurem using Outrage once. The game breaks somewhere when mixing the “multi-turn attacks” with the scope. He had 4 scopes, and used Outrage for like 10 turns, hitting the enemies roughly 40 times. He went through like 7 floors without me being able to input anything lol

@@douglasnorona6895 as far as i could gather the lead dev allegedly got in to some arguments with users over identity politics which some other higher ups may have seen as an opportunity to start making stupid pot shot negative comments about race and sexuality. Lead dev resigned a day later with an open letter about how he just doesn’t have time to manage this game a job and a family which was probably entirely true since he had to spend the last week dealing with how mismanaged this game was on technical side with all of the server issues that should have been easily foreseeable and handled a month ago but it also included some self righteous “my faith” classic Christian martyrdom bs so it was probably really just a quiet non-apology letter that helped him feel better about himself. Somehow by comparison to the incredible string of incompetence that came next none of this is the actual issue. After that letter went out someone started spamming trans rights in general and a bunch of clowns who had absolutely no idea what was going on started a bigoted spam war against a bunch of idiots with the moral high ground who also had no idea what was going on. Rather than just locking the server for an hour until everybody got distracted they elected a community manager who spent a while posting vague “everything is going to be ok because I love everybody” announcements about what had been going on so tone deaf they managed to very obviously miss a point which very few people even knew to begin with. That guy was outed within four hours and replaced with someone whose idea of community management was to post an announcement that said “Ignore all of that I’m the new community manager.” I don’t think either of them is currently community manager, thank god. Eventually the server was locked and one singular person (still not any of the two or three admins) finally stepped up to take charge of the situation… but they also left the chats open to all the mini mods to publicly talk shit about how horribly managed the situation was so now you just have a discord full of confused users reading posts by mods shit talking their own chain of command and with open access to chat logs worth locking a server over who are never going to stop thinking about why everything is still locked rather than just unlocking it after a few hours and doing actual chat moderation to make sure everything returned to normal 🤡

If I had to presume what causes it, probably the following Firstly it starts as normal, then hits beak blast. After beak blast hits, goes for the second hit, starting the first part of the move again due to multi-lens. After that, due to beak blast being at the first part of the move, it does the second part at the end of the turn. Due to no longer being in a multi-hit, it starts another multi-hit chain. Overall, I presume that a similar thing MIGHT happen with focus punch, due to having a charging part and attacking part on the same turn with different priority.

Sound logic. I still haven't had a chance to get another multi lens and any move to make that happen. I'm ready to see some evidence, but suspect this is the only move that will function 100% of the time. Other things like Focus Punch or Shell Trap -could- work, though.

@@deleroth It's a coding error, something about Wonder Guard checking only the charging move's second phase but not the actual damaging phase. Fire Fang was in the code, seen as Shadow Force but deals damage on the first phase, thus bypasses Wonder Guard.

I've ran archaladon with multi-lens before. The interaction with Electro Shot is turn1 +spatk, turn 2 ES > +spatk > ES. So basically you get two ES on turn 2,with the second Shot at +2. I suspect Skill Link isn't related to this because Beak Cannon isn't a multi hit attack.

This was amongst my earliest thoughts/communications on the subject. It doesn't work. The only thing that works this way is Beak Blast. Outrage/Thrash/Uproar and other multi-turn repetitive damaging moves can become infinite, but they still advance in turns, unlike this.

I fused my Zacian and Maushold to get Pop. bomb on my Zacian. Now I use it with the multi-lens and I get to hit pokemon 40 times in one turn with the max chances of flinches, broken. Also the passive unnerve is just dumb lol

From my limited testing, it seemed to miss when an endurance token triggered. Going to test more to see it, but it looks like the problem is more surviving to get the attack off than dealing with endurance tokens.

I've not seen a Multi Lens on an opponent's pokemon. That said, I would expect the faster pokemon to get the attack off first, but it might be swapping attacks between the two. That would be hilarious.

I'd love to say I was trying to, but I just thought hitting something twice with that move would ensure it died. It did, but not in the way I expected. I do have a history of brute forcing dumb stuff in games, and utilizing exploits for things from when I speedran pokemon, but aside from noticing that this happened I don't think that lended any benefit to finding it.

I found this on accident also on my second run through of classic mode. Skill link is not necessary, its just a broken interaction with 2 stage moves like Beak Blast, Dive, Bounce, Fly etc. and the multilens.

Yes, but with caveats. There's a lot of pokemon that will one shot you, so I suppose you're actually better off having a supremely defensive pokemon spliced into this. If you can find a way to have sturdy/focus bands/reviver seeds, it will offset a lot of the fear, but you never know when something will annihilate you. The other issue, as shown in my video today, is that the later you get in Endless, the more likely pokemon are to Endure attacks. This isn't that big of a deal, because a refresh will allow you to fight again, and generally on a reset the endure doesn't proc. Also, the Multi-Lens is extremely rare, so that can delay things.

I would love to find out; you're a bit more restricted with a move like Focus Punch or Shell Trap as the opponent needs to either be not attacking or attacking, respectively. Haven't found another Multi Lens to give it a try, but I must know. Someone posted that two turn moves (specifically Electro Shock) don't work quite the same as this, though they didn't say if the attack went off twice or how functionality worked on it.

@@deleroth it sucks that it needs such a rare item to work because that makes testing such an interesting interaction difficult. Shell trap is definitely easier at least because there is the rival fight's mega Rayquaza so you can guarantee a physical attack but for focus punch you'd have to get lucky with e-max using recover. Probably shouldn't try focus punch on mega ray because of fly, would suck to be stuck in an infinite loop of missing an attack

@@murder_krow951 Yeah, the broken infinite loop is an immediate reset. I never ran into it during my classic run that this video is from, but the fix is simple enough. And I agree! I've only gotten the item twice in my runs, so now I'm doing an infinite run searching for it. No luck so far, but I'll keep trying until they say they've fixed it.
