One-dimensional channels are always going to be at risk of falling off... and eventually they all do. When all of your content is dedicated to opening cards, the magic is going to get lost fast. I don't think it's really the fact that making videos becomes their job and, therefore, the joy is lost. It's more so that they've forced themselves to pump out the same type of video day after day. They also end up chasing the algorithm and burn themselves out by forcing out a new video to stay at the top of the recommended list. The fact is, if you want to have a long-lasting channel and enjoy what you do, you need to need to make content that you care truly care about. Don't cater to algorithm. Don't overthink what you think might do well. Express your creativity. As soon as lose the care, you've lost your joy.

This is why I like Deep Pocket Monster so much. He is always super excited about his pulls, comes out with original content and challenges and is so positive in each and every one of his videos. Especially when interacting with children. I hope he doesn't fall down the rabit hole and gets burned out. I think he is relatively safe though as he does have multiple other jobs. If he gets burned out, it won't be because of Pokemon, it will be for doing way too much.

I think what causes a lot of burnout on the part of both video makers and viewers when it comes to pokemon TCG opening videos/channels is that the vast majority of channels intentionally/unintentionally proliferate the idea that if a card isn't a chase or otherwise high-value card then it's worthless. Imo one of the best ways to avoid/overcome burnout is to learn how to appreciate commons/uncommons/etc. Literally every set since Base Set has had absolutely amazing art in their "bulk" cards that deserve attention, but because they're not shiny cardboard people couldn't care less about them. I desperately want to see channels that analyze card art, talk about the artists, etc etc, but it seems that almost every channel would rather just jerk off about how big their cards' numbers on TCGplayer are; in which case yeah it's no surprise that they get burned out after years of doing nothing else.

YES. 100% agree. I hate it when content creators refuse to learn the names of new pokemon and moan and complain that the new sets feature the new pokemon. Well what did you expect? Of course the new sets are going to focus on the new mon with some old sprinkeled in. I expect that when Pokemon Legends ZA comes out, which undoubtedly will have new pokemon and new megas, that the sets we get will heavily feature those mons. I want them too.

I know exactly who you're talking about because I watched him open 100 packs today. Needless to say his heart was definitely not in it. Now idk if he just wasn't feeling it the day he recorded or if he's to the point where he's just going through the motions ? Even the things we love doing the most can feel like a burden now and again. I don't know everything but I know for certain if I was privileged enough to have Pokemon be my full time job. I'd do well to remember that each and every time I turned that camera on to record. So very few of us get to actually do what we love for a living. If you're lucky enough to be in that position don't ever take it for granted because it can all be gone in the blink of an eye.

@OpossumBud I love so many different things about Pokemon. The art is number one for me being I'm an artist. Also I love wondering what's coming next and speculating about it. The anticipation is part of the fun for me. When I see a new card that immediately draws me in I show it to my wife and we get excited together. We have fun being the peanut gallery when there's poke drama then we have a laugh and move on. The best part for me is when I finally get the card I've been chasing in my hands and I can't stop looking at it. I post pics on my ig tag my friends and add a song. Then I place it in my pc and find the next chase. As much as I wish I could have it all I actually don't because once you reach the top of the mountain there's nowhere to go but down.

To be completely honest with you I’ve stopped watching people that can’t even bother to get to know the new Pokemon and dunk on the new Pokemon (unless they get a card that gets expensive). And I can very much tell as I’ve played the heck out of scarlet and violet and both DLC’s. It’s very chameleon like and disingenuous to me and even more annoying when they’re making money off a product the Pokemon company makes and don’t have enough respect or awareness to realize that just because something isn’t the same as it was during their childhood it doesn’t mean it’s bad or trash. I’m up to here with hearing about 151 like oh my god I grew up knowing the original 151 as well but guess what we’re in 2024 and there’s SO MANY OTHER POKEMON like…..oh man it’s so annoying to me at least. Not to mention the freaking art that’s coming out set after set in the scarlet and violet era

Playing devils advocate here... As a content creator who used to be extremely popular in my avenue a while ago, the thing that made me popular died. I used to stream to A LOT of viewers and now im lucky to get 15. I can def relate to burnout, but for me personally, it's literally the most depressing shit to stream for 8 hours a day and NO ONE is chatting, when at a time you had so much chatter you couldnt keep up, view count aside. All that said i dont know how YT works but if there is a huge lack in channel numbers /views/subs/ that can hit as hard as someone saying your dick is the smallest they have ever seen. It gets to you. People want the underdog to win. When you get in a headspace that you're top dog or you're making so much bank, then all a sudden it stops or its not what it used to be, and you see newcomers just flourishing while you dwendle, it takes a fucking toll and its hard to bounce back to that bright eyed bushy tailed creator you once were. You don't know what you got until its gone.

If you have no passion in what you’re doing, other watching won’t have passion for what you’re doing. Nothing is forever and the content creation sphere changes, and I feel for creators who aren’t receiving what they once did. But new creators will put in the work, and they will outshine the old if they let them. This isn’t a one off thing, this is across the board for our bigger guys on KZbin. Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏽

I’ve been really just watching RBN as well as you & Pokecuz daily, CTR often and kinda royalty gaming Pokémon as always. I am into vintage personally so I'm much more interested in the community and long term collector base in that real specifically and I think it's good that the content is getting stale, I would love to buy at pre 2020 prices

I think the hobby as a whole has gotten burnt out on this entire generation. I appreciate the arts of the art rares down to the commons, however I just can't keep up when wanting to even open packs for different sets. I think it's just time to have a buying hiatus for a bit to keep the love alive for the hobby. I think there will be a huge shift in content creation overall as well. Changes are coming.

I think it's several factors but mainly SV really just doesn't hit like Sw/sh did. The sets don't really have the same appeal for whatever reason and there were so many changes made all at once. It kinda killed all the momentum that Swsh finished on. Ive spent less than $150 on SV products so far and I spent thousands on Swsh. The poketubers need to make videos no matter how they feel about the sets

Scarlet and violet absolutely killed it with some of the arts - I think a lot of "hype" with these cards come from the value of the market (I'm a vendor so I feel like I can say this). Wait till S&V gets out of print and the Paldean Fates Gardy IS GONNNA GO TO THE MOOOON 🤪🚀 nah but for real, it will change when S&V gets out of print. People are chasing the big bag and not appreciating the art of some of these.

Unfortunately I think rev is getting a little burnt out as well and it’s sad to see cuz he inspired me to do what little things I do on my TikTok maybe it’s just me but I dnt know if you or anyone else noticed but the dude definitely put a stop to his box break live streams which I really enjoy watching personally feel like the haters really got to him in that sense but who knows maybe he just taking a hella long break on em to help CTR shine on his box breaks which I think CTR could do very well even if rev was still doing his own box breaks love both of them so much and respect em both literally the same hell been a ctr member for atleast 9 months and got his latest F*** CTR shirt as well but ya I definitely see what you’re talking about because I literally watch everything that revolves around Pokémon 1000% I been digging the vendor povs a lot too lately and I was watching em way before they got somewhat big in the space as a category of Pokémon content itself but ya definitely understand and see where you’re coming from on this topic for sure! I could see it being draining. You are literally doing the same thing over and over and over almost cyclically. They open up a set, do some live stream breaks, and thats it mainly. Im not saying its bad but thats the bread and butter. A lot of people do live stream breaks now cause everyone is scared to venture out of the norm. Me personally i do wanna start a YT channel based on pokemon too but im probably not gonna rip cause i cant afford that currently. Instead ill do other pieces i have been thinking about like for instance niche collections. There are so many niche collections out there that would be awesome to know about and highlight. Idk its some odeas i have and im sure it would be fun for me and others to do. Lol. Thanks for the vid my guy appreciate ya.

@@OpossumBud I have never once shamed anyone for liking something. I'm not a gatekeeper. People can like whatever they like. You on the other hand have shamed people hundreds of times for liking older generations. Even calling them fake fans. You actually make no sense. I want them to sprinkle the last 8 generations in the sets a little more and you only want pure gen 9. So shouldn't you be letting people enjoy the 89% of pokemon?. I love how you always act like it's only gen 1 that people want. Anyone who wants anything throwback is considered a gen wunner to you. I also enjoy gen 9 but 9 out of 10 sets were gen 9 and almost every single gen 9 pokemon has gotten an ir or sir but we're just monsters for wanting some older pokemon thrown in. It's just so old the constant negativity towards anything throwback and then just automatically love anything new. It don't matter how bad the set is you will still love it and say it's great just because it's not a throwback set. You're so biased it's actually insane. Call me whatever you want man, but there are several groups of people who trash anything new in the hobby and trash the sets that feature the Gen 9 Pokemon in Gen 9, and previous Gen’s that aren’t Gen 1. There is an ENTIRE set featuring only Kanto Pokemon in SV, and the people you’re sticking your neck out for still aren’t happy. I said what I said and don’t take it back. @OpossumBud i just started creating content myself and I get discouraged with not getting the views i want. Ive always been told to do wat makes you happy and don't listen to others opinions. That being said sometimes you do get burnt out and have to change the way you do things to make more interesting or stop/slow down or you will eventually ruin the passion and love for that said thing.
