This is pretty typical fighting game mechanics. You can't just translate that into an open world. The moves are only balanced if the battle is in a confined space.

DontTouchMyHoHos Actually it just clicked -- make an RPG that cuts to a fighting game arena during a battle. So make it an open world game, but make combat limited to a certain area that way you would in a fight game. Honestly why hasn't anybody done something like that? Make a quality fighting game like Tekken, Street Fighter or Smash and then add onto that a whole RPG open world game, just like any typical tactical RPG just instead of going into turn-based battles in an encounter, start a fighting game style battle. You could get exp each time you use a specific move, thus leveling up moves... or you could just get exp for the fight, and then unlock new combos with experience... there could be different skill trees that make different fighting styles... one could come up with as many skill trees as there are different characters in a fighting game.. with pokemon it would all be even simpler than that. Somebody's gotta get on it. Tons of games are at least that complex to make these days.

I think with most of the anime fighting games that are currently out this would draw in more people with a large circular battle field instead of a linear plane. Also adding 3D movement would really add to the experience.

I've managed to get rid of video games in my life for nearly 8 years now (I'm 23 years old). There have been many tempting titles, but I think I've done well with the temptation. I've already played the majority of handheld Pokemon games. I should note I haven't completely been away from a handheld or controller, but for the majority of my latter years as a teenager to now, I haven't owned any consoles or gaming devices. If I have, it was really temporary before I got rid of them again. Said that, I will play when over at a friends house. I'm a big fan of Fifa and have played other games like COD very well. I will not put games like GTA into my head because it will be game over for me in life if I decide to go and pick that up. Sure I want to play, but I'd be giving up my life to play that game from beginning to end. I just recently got back into Pokemon and found my cards hidden away in storage, so maybe it's a bit extra on the nostalgic side for me. Regardless, it comes down to your taste and opinion. You still really can't decide that for anybody else.

Like Pokemon Stadium will you be able to transfer your Pokemon wirelessly with your own Nintendo 3DS or XL and use your own moves as how this game might re-present it's self? Anyways I think having your own Pokemon transferred into this game would be totally awesome besides it just using a roster of Pokemon to see who really is the better of the two when it comes to how well you trained your own Pokemon in Super Smash Bros or Marvel VS. Cap com Style! Now that would be awesome!

Does the pokemon's type have anything to do with how much damage is done? Like charzard's fire attacks would do more damage on ice or grass types compared to a water type? And do pokemon with high defense/special D take less damage while fragile sweepers with high attacks a take a little more? Like blaziken would do significantly more damage but also take a little more damage when compared to a more defensive pokemone like suicune. Just wondering if their in game stats and type matter at all or if its just a straight forward fighting game.
