A lot of comments seem misconstrued. This isn't a propaganda video. He's clearly explaining how repressive the state was. It's from a western point of view.

We as Poles , tried stick our noses in world politics. In 1944 by starting Warsaw uprising, we lost cream of the crop in that no sense uprising. Thinking we going to influence or change world politics by taking over a city? By doing it we made Russians huge favor. No doubt about west left us to the Communist USSR!! People forget that not nuclear weapons made Japanese surrender, but USSR invasion of Japanese controled Manchuria.

Not to take away from the numerous and very real hardships of post-war Poland but what I can see here is a country that was basically destroyed in WW2 and yet those shown in this propaganda film have: -Reasonable expectation of personal safety, low risk of violence -Secure homes, presumably warm and dry -Clothes on their backs and food in their bellies -Jobs - Comprehensive free education to university level -Opportunities to pursue culture, religion, and heritage I appreciate these basic fundamental things fall well short of modern expectations and people today reasonably require much more. Furthermore life in western countries would have been significantly more comfortable at the time. However I believe compared to vast swathes of the world both then and now these fundamental things are in short supply and many would consider themselves very lucky indeed to have them.

As eloquently as you have wrote that, you must understand that we Polish people are fiercly patriotic. So let me leave you with this quote from stalin. ‘fitting communism onto Poland was like putting a saddle on a cow’.

@@MateuszTeter Yes it was never going to fit with the Polish national character not least from the way communism was imposed by outsiders rather than from within.

Why do you say this is a propaganda film? Because it is narrated with a calm voice? That is how people used to talk in documentaries.

@Poop Klutch 💩 Many more stayed and rebuilt the country. Today Poland is one of the wealthiest countries in Europe, a proud legacy of reconstruction and development which began in the rubble of 1945.

1 mile (about 1700 meters) way to school is not necessarily a long way. This film is propaganda in a rather stupid way. You have to work everywhere, whether among the capitalists or among the communists. The decisive factor is always how much you earn. Nevertheless, as a contemporary document nice to look at. Just do not believe everything that is told in it.
@ciapatyciapacz53545 жыл бұрын
Interesting documentary but this maps are atrocious, Poland doesn't have a complicated geography and yet they menaged to make every single one of them wrong. The funniest one is when they show Warsaw right next to the mountains another example is Gdańsk & Gdynia in a distance from each other when in reality it's one agglomeration.

Thank you for this film. It's really sad how depressing the life under communism is. And it's disappointing how people of the World diminish the role of the Church in defeating communism.

Hello! I'd really like to use this movie for a documentary film I am putting together, but I'm not sure how the copyright would work. Please contact me ASAP! Thanks so much.

I doubt the copyright has been renewed. The company has been gone for 50 many years. You can look up copyright stuff at US library of congress -copyright records
