Polar Lights 1/144 Scale GODZILLA model kit

This is a construction video on how I modified the Polar Lights 1/144 scale Godzilla Model kit to achieve a good looking and affordable representation of Godzilla - King of the Monsters!

I built this kit ten years ago, and I painted it as a black and white/greyscale with silver highlights in the train cars, dorsal plates, etc. It truly is an impressive kit! You did an amazing job!

Wow! That is an awesome idea to do the kit in greyscale, like the B&W movie. I bet it looks cool! This was a fun kit to build and I enjoyed every minute of the process. Its just a nice Godzilla kit at a reasonable price and scale. With just a few simple modifications it delivers a great representation of the first Godzilla. Thank you for watching and for the comments. I did not use the airbrush one time on this build if I remember correctly. I utilized a lot of dry-brushing and shading with pastels to get the results you see on the video. Thank you again for watching!

As I started dry fitting the parts together I soon realized that there would be a substantial gap in the dorsal fins where the tail joins the body. I knew I would have to do something and the extra dorsal fins were the best solution. This model was just absolutely fun to work on. Thank you again for watching and leaving a comment. Best wishes!

Nice job Monte! I love the old Godzilla movies too, I always felt sorry for those poor modelers getting their work all smashed up. I hope they were well paid. You made some great improvements to the kit. Well Done! Jeff

Beautiful work on the improvements its has brought it up to date seen a few of those kits built but none has came close to your build very well done like the glow in the dark paint nice touch 👍

Thanks! I tried to give this model a little extra by changing the head and arm positions and adding more aggressive teeth. The glow in the dark paint was an after thought. The model is in some sunlight during the day and the plates glow nicely at sunset. It doesn't last long but it is neat to look at.

Beautiful work! The improvements You made make the model so much more realistic looking, very nicely done. I too enjoyed the earlier Godzilla, I personally feel that the most recent movies have made him so large as to render him less believable ( I realize this is a trend in most movies now). I agree with You on the story line being better in the first than in the more recent.

The original Godzilla movie is actually scary if you get into the plot and storyline. I really believe that a remake following the original plot would do very well. Thank you for your comments on my rendering of Godzilla. Being a fan of the original movie, I deeply appreciate it.

Thank you for your comment and for watching the video! I'm happy to hear that this video is being useful to other builders of this kit. My best advise to anyone building this model is to be careful when painting the eyes. It is natural to want to paint the pupils in the center of the eye but doing so will make Godzilla "bug-eyed". Put a dot on where you think the pupil should be and take a look. If he looks crossed eyed or bug-eyed, reposition your dot until it look right, then paint the eye. It is a small detail but it makes a big difference. Thanks again, and best of luck on your build of this iconic monster!

I am about half way through all the modifications - having used about 30 inches of green stuff now to fill and adapt the torso joints etc. My kit was missing a left foot so I have had to sculpt a complete new foot which has really slowed my assembly down - I'm back for a 2nd viewing of your video to swat up on your build tips - thanks once again

@@TheKingTubby1 I'm surprised at the missing foot! Polar Lights would probably send you a replacement but it seems that you have already overcome that issue. The kit does take a lot of filler to seal up the gaps! I would love to see your model once you are finished. @@modelsbymonte2431 I've finally finished the filling of all 4 of the limbs it's a lot of work and a lot of putty was used but it really makes a big difference - the kit no longer looks like a human dressed in a padded rubber/concrete suit with stitched seams! - I had to add the extra dorsal spines as you did to blend in the joins between the head and tail pieces - the kit looks really great now all the corrections are complete - next stages, the painting...

@@TheKingTubby1 Happy to hear your model is progressing! The gap filling is time-consuming, but for this kit it is mandatory to get a decent representation of Godzilla. I still have issues with the shape of the head. It just seems to be slightly off for some reason to me. I wish I spent more time on the head. Good luck with the paint and remember the eye positions. Awesome, impressive, stunning! Wow! What a great built! Your skills as sculptor are good. The tongue and dorsal plates are very realistic. I’m a big fan of Godzilla movies too. Have you seen the Godzilla Minus One movie that came out in December 2023. I did not, unfortunately but I read rave reviews about it. Also, check out the song Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult. A 1977 hard rock classic tribute to the King of Monsters!
