Very helpful video. This is the only video worth watching on “polar inertia”! Thank you so much!

Except it says not a single word about polar moment of inertia.😂 The vid is about moment of inertia, which is a COMPLETELY different thing.

You are applying this laterally to the car, but the longitudinal PMOI is even more critical to a cars ability to rotate. eg, engine weight and position.

What you're describing here is moment of inertia and NOT polar moment of inertia.

+ThrustMotorsports Hey what's up man? I got this directly from one of Carroll Smith's books. He's one of the most respected engineers and crew chiefs in the history of motorsports. I guess we could talk semantics, but honestly I don't really care if the term is wrong. The concept will be the same and that's what we're after.

I found this video because I'm reading Vic Elford's book and he used the same term, which doesn't match my memory of physics, so I wanted to find out if my understanding was incorrect. I believe that polar moment of inertia describes an object resistance to torsion, not resistance to spinning (like an ice skater with arms out vs in).

@@mlouie you are correct, he is describing mass moment of inertia or resistance to angular acceleration, not polar moment which deals with torsion.

Duuude, if you don’t care if the term is wrong, you can narrate the very same words as are in the vid explaining what sociology or marine navigation is. You invite people to watch explanation what is an ability of an object to resist torsion, people do come in, you draw them a seesaw and tell them all that stuff about mass centralization. Carol Smith wrote about moment of inertia, not polar moment of inertia, go reread and text me here a quote from the book if I’m wrong.

This si the video i refer people to when they ask wtf is so good about mid engine cars and why i prefer them. My mr2 changes direction with very little input.

Call it what you will. It's still a fun video, good narration and excellent medium for explanations.

Polar moment of inertia is not what you are describing in the video.

Super ! But this is mass moment of inertia ...i guess.

You r right...its about bending and deflection thats why

You are confusing moment of inertia with polar moment of inertia

good video, but I would appreciate it if you would give my right ear a little bit more love too
