Thank you so much for this video. The polar and non-polar concept was completely beyond me trying to understand it from my text book. This is one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen on KZbin.

Hey Trevin, thx for the big compliment. I'm stoked you learned the topic bro, and hopefully will ace the next test!

That's a great idea! Unfortunately, there are soooo many topics to teach about any so little time. I teach chem and physics. I'm really just trying to put videos up that I cover in class so my students have somewhere to go to get help outside of school. So, I posted them on youtube. The result is a lot of students are tuning in. It makes sense, that topics are difficult to explain. Glad youtube is working for you! Peace bro!

Good question. A periodic trend is nothing more than a pattern that is observed. The pattern has to be caused by something. That something is atomic size. The smaller elements will pull "shared" electrons closer to themselves because because their protons are literally pulling on the shared electrons. Plus when the electron cloud is small, those shared electrons from the big elements are very close to the other atom's protons. So the smaller atoms really tugs or pulls on the shared electrons.

When you subtract, you only subtract the two elements involved in the bond. Deal with the shared pair only, not every element in the compound. Good question.

I'm slightly confused. Can you have a non polar molecule which has polar bonds? Either answer, could you explain why. Also if you had a polar molecule can you have a non polar bond?
