You nailed it when you said these machines are NOTORIOUS for consistant starter issues. Bad starter placement by polaris on the 90s models.

Whew, I'm glad my 96 wasn't this involved. Idk if its possible on yours but I was able to not remove the clutches to get mine out. It was very fiddly to get back on tho.

Yeah, I have removed the starter without taking the clutch apart but like you said it wasn't easy.

Awesome video man! Unrelated but any tips of getting the flywheel off without spending 50 on a puller made just for these? is there a flywheel puller set from harbor freight or anything that I could buy instead.?

You can rent a harmonic balancer puller from Auto Zone or Oreily's
