I have a 22 850 XRS and had the chance to have an XCR and Assault Boost Demo a couple weeks ago. First day I had the XCR, overall it felt a lot like my XRS but a little more nervous. Once i backed all the compression out of the front shocks the thing absolutely railed. The Boost on the other had, all I can say is WOW. It was the most fun sled I have ever ridden. Was I faster through tight switchbacks on my XRS or the XCR? Probably. I didn't care though that motor is so strong and the front end is so light under power. I was going 90 at 3/4 throttle and it carried the ski's when I punched it. I was trying to get my hands on the new Competition Turbo but they are already sold out so I ordered the Boost. My only bitch about the sled is that Polaris doesn't give you the track options as the regular 850. It's only the 1.3 or 2.0" which kind of sucks. For the riding I do in Northern NH the 1.6 would be ideal.

You should put a call into Bruce Sr. At South Side Polaris in North Adam’s, MA. He’s been doing shocks forever and spends a lot of time figuring out what valving, preload, etc for each rider’s situation. As far as the 7s goes it’s hands down the best factory gauge out there. I’m on my second one so I’ve got it down pretty good. Just keep messing with it and you’ll be surprised on what it can do. (That said it will glitch every once in awhile and need to be shut off for a few seconds, then back to normal).

A lot of guys are going to the light duty torsions on the matryx assaults and they said it makes a huge difference in ride quality. The rear of them is quite stiff.
@FZ583 Жыл бұрын
The center shock spring is the adjustment your looking for, on the center spring think tight it light, the more preload on that center spring the less weight will be on the front end, the assault's are sprung with stiff rear torsion springs, a lot switch out to the light weight torsion springs but if your under 200 pounds you should probably be on the softest setting with the stock springs but set your sag per the manual and you'll know for sure, that's with gear on and whatever you put on the tunnel for bags or fuel, but by going to the medium setting you applied some more pressure to your front end. The center spring is the adjustment that will be very noticeable and it doesn't take much, try 1-2 revolutions tighter and see if you get the front end results your looking for. I have an XCR and it's dialed in but I rode a 850 Matryx Assault this yr and was very impressed how dialed it was on the trail, it did well. Keep the vid's coming, always good for a watch.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling the center track shock would make a big difference. Sucks it was frozen my last two rides so I couldn't get a tool on it to adjust it. Like I said I've adjusted the compression on the center track shock but not the preload. My Assault was actually on 3 for the torsion springs from the factory so I moved it down to 2. It definitely helped but is still a bit stiff. I'm 200 lbs before gear right now. Id probably say I prefer a soft suspension in the chatter and a stiffer one for the big bumps so that was my hope with some custom valving but if the center track shock can improve it just a bit I'd say I probably wouldn't need the valving. Thanks for the support man it means a lot! I definitely will!!

@@Revrider550 similar opinion here, I would start rear torsion to position 1 and increase front track shock preload a bit. Also would try clickers set to minimum on all shocks and increase them slowly from there if it feel too soft or bottoms.

I’m super pumped snowchecked a 25 assault boost but with the 1.35 cobra track.But I’m gonna run the 204 fast trac set up.

There are some really good suspension videos on Assault on Jesse James channel. The owner of the Polaris dealership really gets into detail

Thanks! I’ve been talking to Jesse and most likely plan to revalve my shock this off season at south side to what they recommend.
@jromem7313 Жыл бұрын
Tighten up your front track spring couple turns. Make your rear shock soft as it goes and put a 1/4" preload on front shock springs with clickers in the middle and adjust as needed.
@Revrider550 Жыл бұрын
Will do! Definitely gonna make some tweaks this summer and see how it is next season.
@colewilliams767 Жыл бұрын
This is similar to my base setup. I always have my center shock full stiff and rear as soft as possible. Set the sag first. The front is going to be stiff because it's designed to turn well in deep snow as well. A vr1 performs much better on the trail. Both front and rear

Add 1/8 to front track spring shocks are all on 3 all around rear spring soft and I’m 275 with gear

I've heard a lot of people putting the softer torsion spring in the rear end because they say it's too stiff. I don't know near as much as you, just a thought!
@randynell1144 Жыл бұрын
Hey pal! Take a full turn or two off your rear shock spring. Probably fix your issue. Dunno about re-valving unless you change your springs. Just get the shocks rebuilt with some good ams oil shock therapy oil.

So do you feel the vr1 boost would have a better ride?
@Revrider5502 ай бұрын
Definitely prefer the valving of the shocks on the VR1 for groomed or choppy trail riding but the front is very glued to the snow and makes mogul riding a little rougher. Just depends on the kind of riding you do most.

@Revrider550 Жыл бұрын
Yup! It was a VR1 137 Boost. He has some aftermarket clutching and a different helix i belive so his sled definitely backshifts a lot quicker than me. When we would race from a 20-40mph roll he would get me everytime.

@Revrider550 hey checkout outcast racing, i run his clutch kits, id be willing to bet your buddy doesnt do that next time you line up, his kits are priced good, hes in cape breaton has ton of knowledge and a clutching guru, he will even pre-load the weights so its just put it in and go, you won't regret it, ive run all the big names bikeman was garbage and customer service was shitty, i cleaned northstars well tuned sleds, and i had gabes off hardcore and it was horrible!

Boost on the trails seems like too much having less throttle resolution (a little goes a long way). Right or wrong?
@Revrider550 Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s a good description of it. The power band really ramps up after 1/4-1/3 throttle so at trail speeds you end up trying to work within that window most of the time.

Nice how do you like 7s has it frozen up on you yet? What sled was that pulling you on the lake Josh’s NA 850?
@Revrider550 Жыл бұрын
I like it but its definitely got a bit of a learning curve with the GPS. I was expecting turn by turn directions like a car but it takes a little more finese than that to operate. But otherwise its got tons of info and is super customizable. Josh was getting 94 out of his 850 I belive. Definitely was a slow day on the lake in general. We had just adjusted his belt deflection so that was spot on. But he does have the 1.6 where as I have the 1.3.
@MPJohnny5 Жыл бұрын
@@Revrider550 ya same here I thought turn by turn is what I wanted but honestly I think the way it works is much better gives you option to zoom and see what way you want to go to get to your destination. Did the 7s ride pairing work for you and Josh if so what’s you think? The riders in my group don’t have 7s yet to test out with mine Makes sense the 1.6 got more traction plus maybe your still coming out of breakin mode?
