Pre-season Checklist is almost complete and one of the last things is to do a chain case oil change. This is necessary on nearly every snowmobile and often overlooked. From the previous oil it looks like it slipped the last owners mind. Now that we have all new fluids in the sled its time to let the snow fly and take it to the hills.

Glad I found this, most of the videos KZbin is showing me only dealt with the axys.

That's a good point on making sure you can get the filler plug out first... BUT... if oil will come out of a drain hole... it will go back in as well. Use an oil syringe and have lots of shop towels handy and you absolutely can get oil back into that chaincase again. Another thing to consider is, after draining the old oil, flushing the case with a round or 2 or diesel to clean out all the settled gunk and metal shavings. Run the diesel through a light colored paper towel and see how much iron is there, helps to keep track of the degree of wear from year to year. Then fill it with oil and run it slowly to make sure you have oil in all the chain links before you hit the throttle. Speaking of hitting the throttle... what did you think was happening when you started it and let it idle? Nothing in the chaincase was moving. You'd have been as effective as starting your truck and letting it idle for a minute.

7:45 bro, I was just noticing that your bulkhead where the tunnel hooks up to the chassis, looks like it’s damaged? There’s a hole, and it looks bent.. I would take a look at that

Where did you get the new o rings. I can’t find part number. Mine are bad.

Oh my I was thinking of another video. I’m sorry. The o-rings for the fill plug was from a standard set of o-ring and found one that worked. There are assortment packages at most hardware stores that cover a wide variety. Just bring your old one in and look at the package to see if one is close. They are a standard size and nothing special other than oil resistant

I don't think that just starting tho motor will actuate the chain case area in order to check for leaks, I think the track needs to move.

I think that your are right. If your prop the track up and run it that will get the chain moving. I have been so use to change the oil and start that I didn't think about it.

Thanks for the tip! Question, my sled is a PolarisTitan 2018, I am at about 5000 kilo metres on it. Would it be time to change the oil in the chaincase? thanks

Yeah it’s probably time to change it. General rule of thumb is every season before putting it up for the summer or 3000 miles about 4800 kilometers. So I would say it’s about time. It’s fairly cheap and easy to do

What is starting it up good for? It has nothing to do for finding leaks because you never spun the track. The oil you changed did not go in the engine, it went in the chaincase. lol Then in the end of your video you started saying “crankcase”. Wtf your title is “changing chain case oil”! Wtf, You ok?

Yeah I have been known to mix my words up lol it’s tough looking at a camera and fixing it in post just never turns out great but it just mixes the old with the new and gets the new oil to parts and seals so they can get soaked in a new set of adaptive s from the oil. Just a little piece of mind to try to coat the internals with good oil
