@@StreetersGarage Yes, we were lucky. We were in E. St. J, VT not far from I93. We were breaking trail for about 10 miles when the belt started smoking. 2018 Switchback Pro-S with 1K miles. BTW, we met a few year ago. I ride with one of your former colleagues, Mark, and we bumped into you in Pittsburg (Happy Corner, if I recall). @StreetersGarage Жыл бұрын
sounds like it's stripped out. You can try loosening the jam nut to the point that you can get a screwdriver underneath it and pry up against it as you're trying to back out the screw.

The secondary will slide on the jack shaft after you tighten down the bolt. This is what’s referred to as a floating secondary. Completely normal.

@StreetersGarage6 жыл бұрын
Correct. If it’s already squealing and creeping. The belt is already too tight. I would double check to make sure you have the correct belt on it and it’s not too short.

Thanks for replying about the broken adjustment screw, I accidentally deleted my comment which also deleted yours as well sorry about that. To confirm, what you recommended was to use belt removal bolt to relax tension on the helix, remove broken set screw, replace broken set screw, then adjust as normal. Is this correct? Thanks again for taking the time to answer.

My 1990 Polaris trailblazer takes off when you start it up. It has this clutch setup and a forward only trans. I have been locking the brake at idle to negate this issue, what is causing the belt to not disengage? I can see the clutches spinning as I roll the quad
@StreetersGarage3 жыл бұрын
Couple of things it could be. 1. Belt Deflection is too tight 2. Wrong Size Belt 3. Primary is not opening all of the way and is partially engaged.

Good afternoon I have a 2010 polaris 600 iq touring, the problem I have is I changed my belt and every time it gets to tight and makes noise when I have the breaks on, and I've left the belt so lose that when I go to start it and give it gas while the back end is in the air it comes so tight still that it turns by itself when I don't even give it gas. Is there a way I can send you a video of my problem I'm having

@@StreetersGarage I really don't know what I'm doing wrong at all
@StreetersGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@waynebaron3180 Ok. Couple of things. Idle should be around 1500 rpm. If the belt is squealing on the primary at idle then it’s too tight. Plain and simple. Too loosen the belt. Open the jam and then screw the Allen head clockwise to loose the belt. Tighten the jam nut Start the sled and engage the clutches for it to pick up the change. Get it up to 35 mph. Stop the track and see if it’s still squeaking
@snowking558 жыл бұрын
I have never seen one of those secondaries like that. I guess that's because the newest sled I've ever owned was a '97. That is a neat way to adjust for belt wear, cool.

@StreetersGarage3 жыл бұрын
sounds like you have binding in the driveline somewhere.You'll need to check the track for any bad bearings, broken slides etc. Something is preventing the track from spinning, which is why the belt in smoking . Check the parking brake, chaincase and pto drive shaft bearing too.

I have a POLARIS 800 xc sp,(just rebuilt the motor & added mechanical reverse ) I changed the belts twice,my problem is after a few minutes the sled won't move ,I have to work the throttle (feathering)walking the sled finally running along side of it to get it finally moving fast enough to jump on it goes for awhile until I slow down,and its starts all over again just about smoking up the belt- I just wanted to make a point that the sled had the same exact problem before motor rebuild & adding mechanical reverse. and also it works ok when sled is up on the snowmobile crane lift.-with NO WEIGHT FROM RIDER-. I have a brand NEW belt that I regret to put on because of this PROBLEM. -HELP I NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY. - Thank you -
@StreetersGarage6 жыл бұрын
You either have an issue with the primary or secondary clutches. Either the primary is stuck open or the secondary is. When this happens, it simulates the sled is in the wrong "gear"
@ggaguar49636 жыл бұрын
How do I correct this,the primary moves back & forth,replace clutch or rebuild or clean with brake cleaner &3M pad

@StreetersGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Butch Clark The washers on the backside of the secondary? Those eliminate the amount of float on the jackshaft and helps the center to center alignment between the clutches. How many miles on the drive belt?
@BC-mu9df8 жыл бұрын
2000. The secondary clutch.
@StreetersGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Butch Clark It could as simple as a worn belt. As the belt wears, material is lost on the sides of it. Making it narrower and sit lower in the secondary. If you have a new belt I would try putting it in and adjust the belt deflection again.
