LOVE these detailed engine assembly videos! They were a major help in building my SPX. Wrapping up my build, and I’m appreciating how much more enjoyable the actual motor work is. Getting all the rest of the parts back together has been not so fun(repairing broken wires, routing hoses/wires properly, etc. Ready for first 🔥 soon, though!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Cheers Todd 🍻🍻🍻 Good video! Love the way you explain things as you are doing them! Keep it up! 👍 One thing I might suggest, and it’s kinda too late now🙄, is to put in a pulse line fitting while it’s all apart. I know it’s an RXL, but if you ever decide to switch to carbs in the future then it would already be done and save a ton of work 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers 🍻

Nice catch on the counter weight, seen that a million times. Pure 1000ft drag sled, I'd say weld it, but the problem is that it then just transfers all the load to the next weakest part, which is generally the rod, so when that breaks, it'll sawzall the case every time. That's why in general, I'm not a fan of welding the crank pins. Better to let them twist out of phase and save it all for a rebuild. We saw the most troubles with the '91 RXLs, but in general new battery every year, keep the expensive fuel filters changed, keep the TPS and throttle end play in spec, fresh clutches, they'll generally be reliable. However, 30+ years old electronics is always gonna be a gamble!

Great job Todd. Funny. I rebuilt a 76 Rupp last year. Same problem. I try to be so organized. And end up spending so much time tracking down parts. I feel your pain. Its like a brain tease. And the parts are usually right in front of me. So frustrating.

Hey my friend, is the bolt circle on the 650 flywheel the same as the xcr motors? I'm going to have a bolt on handle made to hold the crank when torquing the nut if you're interested in one I'll have the advanced welding class at school cut two on the plasma table and send one to you .
@toddclyne349311 ай бұрын
That would be fantastic. I use the same puller on every flywheel. So they are the same. Oversize the holes by a 1/16

Could the pto bearing failures be due to too much torque on the end of the crank? Kinda like what the 800 liberty had problems with snapping the crank. More oil/better flow to the bearings won't hurt but that might explain why the crank was pulling apart on that end too.

Hey Todd, love watching your videos! I have a 1997 ultra 680 it smokes a lot, really ALOT, when running. I put a new seal on the oil pump last year thinking oil could be seeping direct into the crankcase through there? Do you have any other thoughts on why the oil consumption is so high? I have the 4th oil line from factory maybe could put a restrictor in there? Keep up the great work thanks again!
@toddclyne349311 ай бұрын

I like your videos of the triples. Is that you making exhaust? I bought a 97 600 XLT RMK. currently has triple slp's The pictures i seen on either Facebook or marketplace show a stainless hub welded to a stainless can. Do you makes the same that would fit in the belly three times. My grandaughter rides the tripple and I would like to be able to change the exhaust for her while trail riding.
