Stop at a pharmacy and get an oral syringe. They come in various sizes (always marked in mL). They are very handy for measuring and filling in places such as the rear differential. More accurate and less mess. They work well for smaller volumes, not so much if you have a large volume to measure. You can pour oil into a clean empty bottle such as you used and when you are done pour back into the original bottle. Less waste, no drops on the floor, no chance of any dirt, etc. in the funnel and hose.

Loved your quote about maintenance. Perhaps Cecil Skinner could take some of your sage advice.

Lol. Cecil is only capable of fixing scrap for a short time. Then fix it again when he has to. Works for him. I try to stay ahead of failures. He is a true northern survivor.

I have the 2004 1/2 Polaris 500 HO Sportsman. I went with that model because it had a recoil pull start just in case the battery went down. Been a great rig. The 1/2 in that model year was because they added an electronic dash pod half way through the production year. 👍

Yeah a pull cord would be a great addition

@@sawingwithsandy I needed it last week. My starter solenoid went out. Only mechanical issue in 17 years.
@sawingwithsandy3 жыл бұрын
Wow I hope I have that same luck

As i understand Polaris elected to leave the pull start off certain models due to the amount of injuries received by city dwellers that dont know what they are doin😂

The recent cold snap has me doing maintenance as well. Skid steer spent 2 days in the shop getting some love, snowmobile was in for a few hours, hm 130 got an oil change today after 3 hrs of sawing, and spent $400 bucks on parts for my chainsaws so I could get 4 out of 5 running well next week. Atv is scheduled in at the dealer for warranty next week. Gets pricey but pays off in the long run. Nothing more disheartening than wanting to use something that breaks down or is broken when you need it most. February next week ! We're getting through it . Keep it up Sandy
@sawingwithsandy3 жыл бұрын
I'm with ya on that. I hate finally finding time to use something and then it breaks down. May as well not have the equipment if it's broken is the way I see it. Hope the winter is treating you well!

You keep pushing my bad consience. Last week it was belt/bearings on the HM130 - now it was oil change on the Polaris. I need to do both on my 130 and Polaris too. Nice to have your videos as reference 👍🙂

War Dept might have issue, but a quick zap in the old microwave will heat up the gear oil and make it flow better. I had the same Polaris 700 and it was a good unit. I also had the 800 and it had an issue that year with a bad airbox which let dust by the filter. It was burning about 1/3 of a quart every 100 miles when I sold them. Stay well my friend!!

I personally belive that changing oil are best done while warm from being used flows more freely and get better drainage even warm the new oil by let sit by space heater just get above room temp then it pours more freely i also leave drain plug out agg a little fresh lub and watch it drain out you can see the old lub push the turn clean then put plug back in This is just my way feel bit better than cold lub change

I agree warm fluid is better

Well made hitch you have there. I have been using the small pumps for my outboard and IO's lower units for yrs and have found myself using them more and more for gear oil changes on most of my equipment. The downside is I now have quite a collection of pumps...ha ha ha

What i dislike about our Polaris Quad is all the different fluids that vare needed just to change the oil. Trans oil different from rear axle as well as front diff is different also. and on our Polaris Sportsman 550 2011. also a special fluid for active descent workings. My Can Am quad doesnt have all different fluids. uses gear oil. Good filler content Sandy. A good well rounded channel
@sawingwithsandy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I too would like a single fluid instead of all the different types for each part of the machine. Appreciate you being part of the channel Glen. Hope all is well.

Why do you not have a wood-burning heater/stove in the shop and one at the 2.0 shack?
@sawingwithsandy3 жыл бұрын
I’ve considered it but since it’s such a huge building without insulation and tall ceilings I figured the shop would be take a lot of effort to heat plus my insurance likely wouldn’t cover it if not installed under WETT standards
