Great video!! I just changed the oil, oil filter and removed the crankcase nut, draining the crankcase. This helped to avoid ‘priming the line’ which I wanted to avoid. This is great as I did it myself. If I had to prime the line, I would’ve taken it to a shop - which I’m glad I didn’t have to do!! Thank you!!

Great Job, the quad is running nice and strong. That snake oil you put in there is nice and slick! Hopefully it will clean out some of the built up carbon from the years of abuse I put this thing through. Thanks again Michael, I'll recommend you to all my friends! Wait a second, I don't really have that many friends! Well shoot, guess I need to work on building up my youtube channel better so people can remember how cool I am! Ha ha, time to edit some videos...

I pull the hose with the screen the first time I changed the oil in a hand me down, the thing was CAKED in sludge, not certain how oil was even circulating. If you've never done it, may need to give it a look. Used the closed end of a box wrench to go around the brass fitting, helped with the torque as some of them are on pretty tight.

Good video! I have an 08 sportsman X2 500 ho and gonna change the oil soon. Do you still recommend the 5wx50 weight oil? Mainly summer use
@TorrentPerformance5 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. Amsoil sells the kits with included oil filter for that model. I have a 2008 video coming soon being edited now, but it is the same as the 2012 for the oil change. If your gonna run amsoil for engine oil I suggest doing the tranny and front diff as well at that time. Those 2008 vids are being edited now. And when you order use my dealer number 5541460 if these vids helped. The 2008 sportsman videos will be up in the future keep a eye out for them.

Looks like your pinching off the oil return line. It needs to be the one running to your air box with the slit in the line.

pull the strainer on the oil tank pinch the air line with the slit to airbox correct.

Just did this on an 04 500 and the line exploded after about 3 seconds of idle. I had just finished a top end rebuild and pumped oil in with the flywheel to lubricate before the first start. I failed to realize I added pressure to the lines before clamping.

Well this video was for a oil change not rebuild. You need to follow rebuild instructions for a rebuild.

I just did an oil change on a new to me 2009 Sportsman 500 HO and there was no way in hell that I could get a socket on the motor oil drain plug with the drive shaft in the way-No way! I got it off with a wrench in the bottom hole but the only way I could get the plug back in was to cut off a 14mm wench to try and get it back in the hole and threaded. It was a total nightmare! Not sure why the driveshaft on my was right in front of the plug. Only 293 miles on the rig!

Mine is same way. One of the stupidest things I've ever seen. And I've seen alot. Add to it I'm doing mine outside at 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Wiped camshaft and need to get some more firewood. So can't wait till it gets warmer. Was looking to see if someone had a trick while my fingers thaw a bit. Guess not.
@g2westwood4 жыл бұрын
@@briankennedy5578 The trick I use to remove the crankcase oil without needing to even touch that bolt is to drain the oil from the reservoir , remove the oil filter , then with the oil filter off and the drain bolt from the reservoir off start the engine and idle it for 5 seconds. While it's idling the oil from the crankcase will drain out of the reservoir . Only use this trick if you ran the motor beforehand to warm up the oil. Some people will scream don't start the engine without oil. The engine is still oiled enough to idle it for a few seconds . I do it every oil change , never had an issue and saves so much time and effort getting at that bolt on the crankcase.

Never ever use a tool to tighten a oil filter!! The general rule of thumb is that oil filters should be hand tight, plus an additional quarter turn. This will ensure that the filter is secure, but not too tight. Over-tightening can cause damage to the filter ..... also pour some oil into the filter before installing helps on startup after a oil change

i have a 2005 sportsman and i wanted to change the oil, your video is on point until you prime the oil system you are pinching off the return line for the oil, the breather hose is on top of the oil tank and has a slit in the hose about 1/2 from the tank, I looked forever how to do this and there is no one on here that shows the corrected way or they just show the four wheel running after the oil pump was prime please look in to it just want to say ur other video are awesome
@TorrentPerformance5 жыл бұрын
Steve that the correct line to pinch. It has a small slit on it. You will feel it build pressure immediately when you pinch it past the slit in the line to build the pressure to prime. Thanks for the comment

These oil tanks are real prone to being over torqued and stripping out. So watch me give the bolt five ugga duggas and really reef it in there. Lol.
