4:40 - I believe there should be a large washer under the motor mount(s). That's how they came from the factory. This raises up the engine so you wouldn't have to shave the recoil mount.

Hello Todd. My name is Jeff and I am an avid triple lover from way back. All I have ever owned was triples. Love your videos and more importantly the way you keep those old sleds relevant. The work you and Trenton do is incredible! Really nice job on all the sleds you guys do. So your last video I watched you showed a 92 RXL. I actually owned that very year. Bought the sled used and it came with Decker triple pipes on it and an eprom chip. Strong sled but back in the day not much info on fuel injector sleds so modding these things in my views was rather sketchy! Strong running sled but proved unreliable as you were lucky to get between 500 to (if lucky) a 1000 miles on it before burning it down. The crank in this motor I don’t think liked spinning at 9200 rpm either as I repaired the crank twice over my ownership. After the second time I decided to move away from the RXL and bought a 96 Storm. Loved that sled but it had issues running crappy in the tight trails once the motor got hot. Never could find the best jetting back then to clean it up but keep it reliable. After 5 yrs with the Storm I purchased what I consider the best sled Polaris ever made, a 2001 XCR 800. Man that sled screwed! I don’t know what it was about that sled but it was faster than anything that ever wanted to line up against me. My buddy even bought the same year but his XCR was nothing like the one I got. I remember we were on a lake up in Maine and the group I was with took off once we got out on the ice a little bit and so did my buddy on his XCR. After they took off I hammered the throttle on mine and not only did I run down my buddies XCR but past him as well. That really pissed him off so him and another buddy of ours who built drag sleds and motors tore his XCR down to get more out of it. They ported it, did carb work and clutching but still it didn’t run like they had hoped. They finally discovered cutting the pipes and making them just a bit shorter was the ticket and that sled moved after that and proved very reliable. I would send some pictures of each of my sleds for you to see but not sure how to do this in this reply. So the reason I write and getting back to the RXL is I have the factory stripes that go on the nose cone and a very nice RXL cap I would like to send Trenton. Obviously you collect things over the years but I have no use for these things and would rather go to you guys. If interested please just let me know where to send them and I will get them out. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping the old triples alive! Best regards, Jeff Franklin from Rhode Island

Great info! When my dad worked for polaris back in the day he did a few carb swaps on modded rxls as the computer tech just wasn’t their yet. I test drove a 2003 xcr800 and went with my brother on his 2000xc700 which is stupid fast. He said his dream meter was pegged at 117 when I passed him like he wasn’t even trying. Sled just pulled like a tractor and never stopped lol

Those xcr 800s from Derek's shop came across my mind Sunday. I wanted one of those back then but ended up with a 98' Mach 1 700. I did get a Polaris but not a triple. I ended up getting 24' Polaris VR1 Boost on a 137. I did get a triple though 21' Thunder Cat ZR9000 137 ARS II with ATAC . Hopefully it snows soon...

Nice video, deer hunting is equal to snowmobiling! Getting out of cell service is indeed a therapy of its own. As far as the 6x6 question. I own a 1989 bug boss 4x6 250. Not sure if they matter but im going to say '89. If its only 6x7 drive machines ill say 1992. I was also a $350 guesser on your parts 650 cost question. I believe I was the 1st guesser not to rub it in lol. Jason will fire on December 10th. Triple on!!!!!

November 30th. You always hit it hard the couple days after Thanksgiving. It looks like the first year of full production of the Big Boss was 1989. They were only 6x4 and used the 250cc single 2 stroke. A little side bit info, maybe you already know... you can use the ATV 250 piston in the Indy 500 488, it gives slightly higher compression. The Widetrak used those pistons from factory. My theory on triple prices... your videos and a few other KZbin'rs made them popular again. Frankly, I had an old 600, a carb 650, a RXL and a couple monoblock 600s, and thanked God for the Liberty twins when they came out. One thing I do believe though, the early 1990s and the Polaris wedge was the golden age of snowmobiling. Sleds were still affordable, it was a whole family & social sport.

@@waults you definitely know me and what we get done the weekend of thanksgiving 😁. My theory is yes more than likely I had something to do with it but I feel FB groups really drove the prices up. Nowadays selling something has turned into a social event that is shared across so many groups that it has turned it into. Not the first with cash in hand it's the first to offer double of the asking price 😁. Great info on the boss production year

I used to run into Tom from Bud's shop from time to time. Bought my first 91 Sport fanner there and got a 95 XCR 440 after he retired. Neat old guy, the stories he told of sledding in the old days! Good one of my own about him. Bud was good friends with my friends dad, they bought a couple new sleds every year. The first 93 Storm came out and they had snowchecked one. So first snow, Bud stopped by to see how that Storm ran, they told him to take it for a spin. Old Bud, hobbling on his cane, it was like he got 30 yrs younger in 3 seconds. He dropped the cane, ripped the cord on that Storm and took it down the field WOT without a second thought.

That bearing retainer is actual a spacer that was an upgrade on the 1996 Aggressive sleds do to Jack shaft flex on the triples. The triples were so wide the driven clutch was spaced farther out on the Jack shaft causing flex. The spacer was an upgrade kit.

First Big Boss 4x6 production year was 1989 with the venerable air cooled 250cc single. We sold a ton to fire departments & farms over the years, but most trail systems wouldn't allow them, so didn't get a ton of traction for recreational users- unlike the SxS revolution and trail adaptations.

Got out for a break in run on my 94 and 96 XLTs yesterday. Left the ACCS hooked up on the 96 RMK but it's not working. Ran horribly rich at 10k' so hoing to bypass that and put different carbs in it since these carbs have no air screws to adjust the pilot circuit.
