I want to tell you this video has changed my LIFE. Hard to imagine. I am in my third week of colored stones at GIA. After passing my 5 Stone for Graduate in Diamonds I was feeling more confident and positive starting gems. That quickly changed and my fear of falling behind because lack of/ non-existing VISUAL Instruction was not available. Your knowledge and skill is EXTREMELY appreciated! Again, thank you. I hope to find more videos on particulars of Gem Identing.

Am very new to this, but picking up gem collecting as a hobby. Have decided that it's time I was able to test the things I'm purchasing so I can have confidence as to what they actually are. Greatly enjoyed this presentation, Mr. Hodgson. One of the best training videos, of any kind, I've ever viewed. And I'm a certified trainer in a completely different field, myself.

Wow, thank you so much for the uploaded video of the whole explanation of single versus double refraction under a polariscope. I couldn't make sense of how it was done when I don't have the equipment myself at home because of online learning, but it made me understood how I will test it once we're allowed to be back on campus.

Thank you SO much! Again another great informative video. I Just received a polariscope for father's day(hobbyist). I've been relying on RI , SG &old microscope to help me identify mtrls. With isotropic gems you mention opals. (generally) Does this include the crystal opals? I have a nice 3 ct "water clear" Ethiopian crystal opal that is not showing this effect. Everything else is right on but the polariscope. Getting diffused light w/ No flash or banding. Any ideas? I guess maybe i'll look into financial aid & sign up for those GIA classes I been talking about. So cool. Thanks again . Rob T

Interesting video, though you could possibly use some proofreading beforehand. I'm sure you meant 'birefringence', not 'biofringence', though 'biofringence' does sound interesting in and of itself (life forms refracting light). Also, it's a 'polarizing' filter, not a 'polaroid' filter. The more accurate you are with your presentation, the more veracity you manifest in your vocation.
