2:30 Please, if you need to show long piece of text, do not scroll it around. It's hard to read while moving + video compression artefacts mess the text quality a lot. Static image of text is just fine.

3:18 no longer correct... the light source needs to be full spectrum most modern flashlights are leds they make a fake "white" light thats really three narrow bands of color that still activate the cones and rods in our eyes. Leds are missing most of the visible spectrum and if that spectrum falls on something you are looking for it makes a fake positive . Old incandescent flashlights dont have this issue
@gems3 жыл бұрын
Excellent observation, Edd. Claire details the need for full spectrum lighting and the pitfalls of using LED lighting starting at 6:00.

Why not just use the high power fiber-optic light source, I'm sure it has an infra-red absorber so it won't heat the stones?

So if this method can't tell you if the gemstone is natural or synthetic what is the purpose of using any of these instruments!?! I mean did anyone else catch This this is not going to tell you if the gym is real or fake so why then I want to know why I really do...!?
@PamelaRubel9 ай бұрын
Synthetic is not "fake" gem, synthetic is lab made, but chemically identical to the natural mined gem, meaning they have the same chemical composition and properties, they are not fake gems, just made in a lab instead of mined. Fakes are simulants, and usually are not at all chemically similar to the real gem they are imitating, nor do they have the same proporties, can often be made of glass or other crystals unrelated to the gem it is imitating. So a synthetic corundum, is identical to natural corundum and the spectroscope will confirm this, whereas let's say a diamond and a cubic zirconia will not look the same under a spectroscope because they are not the same material.
