Really great stuff. I remember hearing a long time ago that convolution could be used for EQ but never followed up on it. Now i know.

Great video! I use Robert's NIH plugins. He has a LP crossover with 2 slope settings. Bitwig does a great job of making a "chain" available on each crossover.

But Bitwig has to make a linear phase crossover and EQ available!

this is way cool! how are you rendering impulse responses? maybe that could be a video

Right click and convert your family situation to a Grid. Go to the inspector view of each filter and increase the Q Limit to maximum. Add a Lag with a very small value to add some distortion+lowpass, and don't forget to add a Peak Limited and DSEQ.

Great video as always. But I'd like to correct one of the words you used at the very beginning when showing the impact of a low latency low cut: moving from +180° to -180° is a 360° shift so it's actually the same phase, not a phase inversion. The apparent steep shift comes from the screen display only. The sound is indeed affected by the continous phase shift, but not by the false "vertical" shift.
@PolarityMusic3 ай бұрын
But isn't the point of -180 (which is also +180) the point where the phase inversion is complete (i.e., a full 180°)? I'll have to rewatch what I said, but the vertical line usually indicates exactly the point where you reach 180°.

If you want to roll your own multiband split (used for ducking in my case) without disturbing phase, but with (fully non-stepped) variable bands and frequencies, and you are OK with some latency, what's the current best option? I'm assuming you'd want some version of fx layer with parallel linear phase EQ's with custom defined bands that end where the next starts. I'm guessing you'd also want a gentle slope (maybe 12dB/oct? Maybe even 6?). Are there other factors to consider? Filter type? Can this truly null when no FX on the bands? Is there a version of this that is as light as possible on CPU? CPU usage vs impulse method? What's the current best way to achieve these goals in Bitwig? Also, is there a video that describes the creation of the impulse EQ bands? If so, I missed it, so is there a particular keyword to locate it?

Like I showed in the video: with freq split
@bongospank83213 ай бұрын
@@PolarityMusic I guess I'm no seeing how that gives measured control over individual freq splits. Are you just nudging and spinning while looking at 3rd party analyzer to somehow determine that band 2 is 500-1800 hz or similar?

This is genius! How do you render a cut impulse response? Also If i compensate the latency with timeshift it should be fine right?

At what point should one worry about the latency? How can we hear latency issues when they arise?
@abbadonproductioninc3 ай бұрын
I would say that it's something that usually grabs your attention in the low end, particularly on kick drums since they are transient in nature. Your kick drum loses its impact and sounds like it's swelling in. That's when you know you have too much latency
@RDstar753 ай бұрын
@@abbadonproductioninc thats incorrect. Latency doesn’t affect the timbre of your sound
