Just prepare to using workarounds if you work with video. Touchdesigner integration is cool and free, but this script doesn’t work well with tempo changes (at least the sudden and drastic ones).

I was looking up some EQ matching mixing techniques for the past week. And this is exactly what I needed. This is some bitwig exclusive mixing tips and tricks. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge polarity. In a few years from now when a lot more people switch to Bitwig they are going to look through all your videos you've posted till now. These are gold.

Gonna put the eq in a chain, loud split in a chain with mix turned all the way down with tool visualizer in the loud split going back to the eq and save that main chain as a preset, thanks for the idea! Ill just save it with a name that appears at the top of plugin loading '0 EQ Visualizer' or something with a macro that adjust loud split threshold and smoothing

@johnmiller19925
@johnmiller19925 9 ай бұрын
The only thing I regret about after switching to Bitwig is the lack of video support. The Touchdesigner script works, but only if you don’t use tempo changes - as soon as you introduce them, tempo automation fails at automation line key points. Especially if the changes are drastic. For now I reverted back to using the quite clunky VidPlay, but I really hope they’ll fix the script.

If Bitwig made some sort of integrated hardware version like Push 3 I would be compelled to switch over. I love both Ableton and my Push but it feels like it’s held together with duct-tape at times. This video shows that this software was designed with certain features in mind from the go and integrated intelligently.

I got Ableton 12 , I like some of the generative stuff they have , I didn’t not use it as much as I use the probability engine with recurrence in Bitwig. Also , modulation in Ableton feels broken compared to Ableton. There is no bounce in place either! That is key for my workflow. Although the MaxforLive ecosystem is exciting , it really made me realize how Bitwigs devices are very well thought out.

Nice work my man, love these ideas. The resonator ambient stuff through PaulStretch was beautiful, have to use that myself sometimes. When I see some of your videos like this I often wonder why any electronic/ambient producers are using any other DAWs except Bitwig Studio. Stuff like this would probably convert some people I hope.

By the way, your first EQ/Loud Split idea was very cool for mixing to a kind of pink noise curve...Do you know any way to send those exact EQ peaks that show when they cross the threshold to say the sidechain input of Soothe 2, so that then Sooth 2 automates and removes the exact frequencies? You would think Soothe 2 would have this curve built in, or a preset exactly for this purpose, but I haven't been able to find one.

if you put a tool device in the loud "box" you should be able to grab that with the sidechain selector of soothe!

Great video, Polarity! For equalization I usually use Carve EQ from Kilohearts. He does pink noise matching very well. + I can edit the curve. But I really liked the method you suggested and am going to try it. And at 12 minutes you literally came up with an effect for color bass. lol

Important to point out that the devices shown (the splitters) are all stock devices in bitwig (think they come with the priced upgrade, but I guess most users have that anyways). Others pay hundreds of bucks and then they only have an equalizer that does transient split and not a generic 'put everything you want' transient split.

I have a question about using the loud split to reduce the volume of peaks... if something is 1dB over the line and it's reduced by 6dB, won't it end up much lower than the line? I mean, it's not reducing it within the range above the line, it's just subtracting 6dB, right? I would have thought this would cause problems with the sound, as it's not really acting like a compressor but something much more intrusive.
@PolarityMusic
@PolarityMusic 10 ай бұрын
Yes, everything that's above the threshold gets selected as a frequency bin. If you then subtract 6dB, it ends up further below the threshold. You have to be careful with that. Like I said, if you mute the loud chain, the bin gets completely removed.
